    Ooh also idea.. If you make the stew and have leftovers, the next day you can put some in a pan, crack a few eggs on top, then bake or lightly heat on the stove till the whites of the eggs are cooked, then sprinkle with fresh parsley and eat it with pita with your hands.

    I did that as sorta like a shakshuka with meat and holy crap.

    Lol yeah the clay pot breaking always made the whole restaurant go into hushed silence and then erupt in cheers when they broke it lol, it was amazing!

    The addition of the apricots and nuts is probably what makes this style unique as this was the "ottoman style" we ordered, otherwise I think they normally just have beef and vegetables.

    For raisins, I think I might've told you about this once but it's my favourite use for raisins:

    You can even do it without the meat and add some beef or chicken stock and just have it as a rice side dish.

    This is a video of me and my husband being served this stew in a restaurant in Istanbul, clearly I loved it so much I set out to replicate it at home.

    -use a pan or pot that can be put in the oven
    -season your beef chunks with salt and pepper and set aside
    -sauté onions, garlic till translucent
    -add your beef, thyme, oregano, Chili if using, stir till no longer pink
    -add mushrooms, cook a bit
    -add rest of veggies, apricots and nuts, stir and sauté till nicely browned
    -add can of crushed tomatoes or diluted sauce, it should nearly cover your meat and veg.
    -bring it to a boil, then cover pot with foil and put in the oven for 1 to 1.5 hours
    -when finished, the sauce should have reduced by 1/4 to 1/2, and beef should be really tender

    Serve over rice or with warm pita

    For Apricots: Turkish Beef Stew

    -Beef cut into chunks, a little bit of fat attached would be good
    -1 Can crushed tomatoes or diluted pasta sauce (I did that and it worked fine)
    -1 large onion, sliced thinly
    -5-6 garlic cloves, minced
    -a bunch of dried apricots, sliced into 0.5 cm width slices
    -vegetables in thick slices: white mushrooms, green or red bell pepper, baby potatoes or regular potatoes cut in cubes
    -walnuts or almonds sliced in half
    -thyme leaves and oregano leaves, or dried
    -salt, pepper to taste
    -Chili flakes or fresh Chili (optional)
