General Cosplay Thread

If you live near a CVS/Pharmacy, try looking there. There's a few around where I live that got a shipment of plain white hats. I bought a bunch of them for two dollars each so I could abuse them with sharpie and paint.


In other news, I found a great pair of shoes at a thrift shop a few days ago for $3. They would go nicely with a Law cosplay, if I ever get an sudden urge to do it.

I always look for cosplay related shoes when I'm in shoe stores. Just in case.

Thanks hun! I was starting to get really sad that noone had said anything about my picture yet. I felt ignored. Normally I don't care if anyone says anything about stuff I post. But I was really excited about this shoot. /sad. Hopefully I can get resize and fix up all the pictures by the end of this week.

I wish I'd gotten to go to that amazing hotel D: and I feel the same way... I mean I cosplay to have fun and everything, but it's nice to get feedback from other cosplayers who enjoy cosplay just as much as you xD I know everyone doesn't comment even though they look but sometimes... sometimes you want some feedback and love xDD I LOVE YOUR FREAKING WIG *u*

I wanna post some more pics but we'll have to get them off the camera. Even if nobody says anything, I totally want to post them anyways xD it's what the cosplay thread is for!!

I can't wait to see your pictures too! Ugh...I need to resize my pictures still and upload the ones from sunday and saturday. It really shouldn't take me too long. There was very little worth taking pictures of. Although JYB and his band Eyeshine are awesome. And Robert Axelrod is a sweet old man. He gave my daughter a cookie and sang me part of a song. And The Man Power was awesome as well. I just wish there was more to do at the con. It totally wasn't worth $50.

I am done with my Juvia pictures though. So you guys can have those.

To put on the makeup, start with clean skin - washed and dried, no antiperspirant or anything on top. That'll help the makeup or temp tattoo stick the best. For the makeup, apply with a small brush, or you can look for the body paint as a crayon, where you draw it on. Have a reference of the full design to look at, preferably at the size you want it (so, for a 4" diameter flower, find a reference pic and draw out the whole design at 4" on a piece of paper). Since this is on your neck, you'll probably need someone to help you draw on at least part of it if not all. Drawing in the mirror is VERY hard to do right.

Once it's drawn, lightly dust some setting powder on with a big poofy blush brush (can find at drugstores). The idea with the powder is to absorb some of the moisture in the paint and help it dry faster. Do this lightly, so you don't smear the paint with the brush. The paint will never be "dry" enough" to not smear if you rub it with your fingers/shirt/etc. though. The setting spray will also protect it from smearing, and also from sweating to a certain extent, but it's not a perfect barrier. Be very mindful of your shirt rubbing on the tattoo. Might be good to bring a Tide pen with you so you can rub off any makeup marks on the shirt collar after the first day.

You're right, this won't last for more than a day. Wash it off before you go to sleep, otherwise you'll wake up with paint in other places (face, hands, sheets, etc). The temp tattoo would probably last through the night but might need some touching up in the morning (you know how temp tattoos eventually start cracking and little bits flake off). I don't think the setting powder would do anything for the temp tattoo, but the setting spray might give it some extra staying power. Overall the temp tattoo might require less maintenance and fussing, but it's harder to apply large tattoos to heavily contoured areas like your collarbone. I've noticed that really large temp tattoos tend to look kind of shiny, like a patch of painted saran wrap.

Wow iroha, thanks for the awesome tips on using body paint/make-up, sounds like you've had some experience using it!

Ichnob: I think I read a couple pages back that you are doing Akainu for SK this year right? Are you planning on trying to do the tattoo? If so, let me know how it turns out for you.

@Ewing: Yes, I'm doing Akainu for Anime Expo in two weeks. I'm planning to use tattoo paper for the body tattoo. I hope that the pics will turn out well, so I'll let you know. Just hope that the double-breasted suit pattern iroha and I are drafting will work AND fit.

@CZor: That is one HUGE collar! Looking good though. Please tell me you got to pester some Ace cosplayers at the con. :D

Thank you! The hotel is indeed very beautiful. I really wish the pictures would have turned out better than they did. OH well, I still have a bunch of stuff I need to fix on that cosplay. So some day I will go back and redo the photoshoot.

Contemplating putting a list together of cosplays I wanna do for the rest of this year, looks like my secret cosplay MIGHT still be a go for Otakon..but I dunno, just depends on if I can pull it off or not xDDD We'll see.

Well the collar sometimes it would go like down on the sides.....but still looked good and well what my friend did pretty much I see as she made the collar thicker so it can stay up...most of the time.

Well I had a Crocodile to fight against, the usual Luffy's to scare (funny story is that I did "scared"/"chased" one without even planning and at a random moment) and also this Impel Down Buggy and Mr 3. I posed with (I was holding them as if I just captured them).

Pictures soon....at least I hope to find the last one. I have an awesome pic of a Brook playing his little guitar to the SH crew.
