Thread: History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi

It's continued for quite some time, and there must be a reason for it. It's because it kicks ass and the characters rule. The author does a great job coming up with so many new martial arts styles that it hardly ever gets boring, IMO. Although I would like the fight against Yami to come to a close soon, it's been going on for quite some time now.

When the fight with Yami ends so will probably the series. Even if it was stated that there are other strong master fighters outside Ryonzapaku and Yami, I doubt there could ever be any antagonistic force that could replace them.

i'm sure that after yami is over there will be some huge tournametn for all these other random masters to come and all friends and allies to join and also for kenichi to be finally fighting possibly his trainers/masters in the tournament to be the strongest.

is that, that tournament from earlier? but i can see it happening. this series isn't renown for its story telling. plus it woudl be like a jump in the skill of the entries. now all are super masters

Hey now, I wouldn't go that far. It may not have a highly complex plot but it is pretty decent and pays attention to all those story conventions of drama, build up and no deus ex machinas.

He's got a long road ahead to ever be close to them though.

it may not have deus ex machinas, but i can argue that they seem to always change in what desciple is the strongest for yami. it seems he has beaten their SUPPOSED strongest one a few times. And what story and drama? i dont' notice any that worth mentioning.

all this manga is good for is its basically one giant manga about training and becoming stronger. inbetween fighting he gets into a fight which allows him to hop over that hump he hit in training. thats all it is.

There's no ambiguity or confusion. Shou had the greatest potential and was therefore the hitherto leader of Yami but the truly strongest one would be the new leader who's the direct disciple to the one shadow. Chikage would be the worst battle for Kenichi though because she's a kid AND a girl. Power ranking doesn't really matter though. All the Yami members are super strong warriors with their own character development and part of the story which is what makes it so awesome. Well except maybe the Prince guy but he was at least handled well for the three or four chapters he had and foreshadowed one of the stronger Yomi members.

I... really don't know what to say to this statement. If you couldn't understand the awesome Loki betrayal, the Miu inner conflict, the man drama of Kenichi vs. Shou on who protects Miu and Shou's subsequent
    Spoiler:
    death
, the last chapter where we get character insight in Kenichi's determination to get stronger and protect what's important to him no matter how deep he gets among other things, well... I won't say anything more.

What you're describing is Bleach. This manga goes far beyond that. If all you've gotten from the manga are the fights (which are quite awesome in their own right), you didn't read it well enough.

all it is, is drama built around the training still. he is training first for mui so she will like him. then it turned into he now trains to protect people. there is no other story. i don't give a shit what drama you throw at me about that. it can be the greatest drama ever, but doesn't take away the fact it is still just based on training to get stronger in order to protect people.

sorry if i find that boring.

    Right...

So basically you're ignoring all the story arcs and plot development and great characterization and grouping it all to training which is only one of the, albeit major, themes of the series. That sure is smart.

I also have to disagree Hinscher, at least on this one anyway. It's true it may not be the best plot in manga history, but it still has a lot of good character development and the hundreds of different martial arts used that each have a different root in history used make it quite educational as well.

Regarding plot, it is true that Kenichi's ultimate goal is to get stronger to protect Miu and others, but there is the still mysterious past of Miu to deal with, Chikage, who is torn between the enemy and good side, and a good variety of plot points that make it interesting. If you find it boring, I respect that, but you can't say it has no story.

Not to mention all of what happened with Takeda suddenly liking Miu and the inner struggle between Kenichi and him, the inner conflict within Yami and Yomi, as shown with Eathen in the Eathen arc. There's a ton of smaller plot points that continuously make their way back too, like Loki reappearing, and other former members of Ragnarok, including the former leader.

Even Bleach does have a potentially good plot, it's just that Kubo has been failing at reaching its full potential in this long as arc.

Bleach just randomly introduces fight after fight without going anywhere. This series always has one or two plot points on the back-burner to use. The best part is how they're always unexpected. He builds up one thing, leaves it for a while and then uses it when you least expect it. It's pretty awesome.

The fan-service has gotten a bit out of hand lately.

Personally I don't really mind so long as we keep getting cool stuff like this:

    Note, spoilered for a reason.
    Spoiler:

    Spoiler:

    Spoiler:

    Spoiler:

Not that I'm suggesting that all this series is good for is eye candy but very awesome looking scenes in both art and dynamics, I think, make up for the occasional fan-service.
