Gotta check that out then.
Anyone else find it just a bit weird that Araki's style suddenly changed? Parts II and II looked the same, and then a bit into Part IV the art was much different.

I was thinking of checking out Steel Ball Run. I didn't know it was a sort of prequel. I gotta read it now!
It's not really a prequel to Jojo but Araki uses the "Star System" concept (invented by Osamu Tezuka) in which key charchters, their relatives, settings or different versions of them appear the same or sometimes different in manga with enitrely different worlds/storylines. Its not a Jojo prequel and no charchters from Jojo appear in it (That I know of.) but its set around the same time preiod as series one of Jojo's Bizzare Adventure.
"I Need Mo' Allowence!"
Well, a prequel doensn't need to include a character from the series. Not until the end, at least.
I'm confused about that Brando guy.

Probably not a plothole. Maybe Dario had family in the States or something.

translated by me from the inside cover of SBR volume1
"this story is actually written as jojo part 7, but for new reader's sake, i did not want to make it clear. on one hand, it's not good for manga artists to throw out their ideas from their past series and totally start new. the theme must continue from past works. (continued in volume 2)"
btw, the story takes place in 1890. dario brando (dio's dad) dies in 1880 (when part 1 starts).

Does it explain what any of its characters have to do with the Jojo characters?

Yeah, that's why the earlier volumes <s>looked ass ugly</s> were kinda crude, but Araki made the muscles look reasonable in Part II. Then he just....changed the faces in Part IV. I never got that, and was always suprised how little (if at all) it's mentioned.

well... maybe not that bad.
i was buying the manga books as they were released and after the series completed, i think i read them through as a whole once... you just don't really care for the characters. if they die, you're kind of like "so what?"
things i'm disappointed in the jojo series...
part 4: you never figure out who the young youth is that saves jojo in his childhood. maybe i was hoping for some time machine action where he goes back and saves himself...
part 5: fugo's unwillingness to go along with the party... his stand "purple haze" was one of the coolest. we only got to see it in action once.

For gripes, I'd say:
Part I - How it's basically a FotNS rip at first
Part V - Just doesn't seem to live up to III
Part V - Everyone looks like a sucker
Part VI -Middle aged Jotaro?

I love the art.
yea, Buccaneer pm'ed me the links.
the characters may have looked kinda crude earlier on but if you look at the fist manga, you can see how much jotaro and hell even how josuke and gio gio lkinda vaguely resemble a version of kenshiro and hell if im not mistaken jotaro, josuke, giorno and buccarelli all have a move where they punch really really fast almost identical to what kenshiro does ( cant remember the move name ) when he beats almost 80% of his opponents...
as to series V being lame, come on... gio gio's ability to give life to non animated objects is just insane and those who strike said non animatedobjects are hurt. his ability to "slow time" is just incredible. he feeds an excess amount of "life energy" into things and because of this they feel the world kinda slow down around them, but it's all pretty much an illusion and when gio hits them, it hurts like 10 times worse then when it normally should.
every jojo fan should have this page bookmarked http://www.geocities.com/noriaki_kakyouin/ - it covers every character all the way up to series 5 and some from series 6
chapter 11 now of the Part 1 for me.... Dio needs some seirous mental help. He's crazy smart but damn... psycho...

I've had that site bookmarked for like, 3 years. :P
