I think Uchiyama is the guy infamous for DBZ's triangle faces and Goku's rapeface when he comes out of the RoSaT (which I can't find a pic of atm).
"The common man is the most powerful man. Long live the proletariat."
Basically, Uchiyama wound up getting the episodes with the most comic material when the surrounding episodes would have little or just be plain filler. The rotation for the middle of the Cell arc looks like this:
Here's a screen cap from episode #169:
That shot is held for several seconds, making it pretty noticeable. Uchiyama's episodes were much better in during Namek and everything before, but when Shida Naotoshi and one or two others, Uchiyama had to not only supervise the animation but do key animation himself. Thus, around the 140s mark only two key animators were even credited for his episodes. For whatever reason he tended to fall in line with most of the comic adapting episodes, too. Episode #164 covered three comic pages and was supervised by Maeda Minoru (the chief animator of the series). Look at all of the key animators listed, undoubtably the best Toei could find at the time. Most of the episode was Trunks and Cell recounting out they arrived at that point in their lives. The next episode is Uchiyama, covering twenty pages of the comic.
Basically, it's the same sort of awful luck.
[/possibly overly long comparison of Toei's established M.O.]

I think this shot that I screencapped while watching Kai was also from an Uchiyama episode. Not too sure though.
Much like the Goku shot above it was shown for several seconds, so it was pretty noticeable.

That was from episode #177, the animation supervisor was actually Hattori Ichirô. I think this is the only episode he does for the series, actually. The animation is frequently on model...but a little unspectacular. Hakamada Yûji is a key animator in #177 and goes on to supervise for the rest of the arc. Uchiyama does episode #178. The interesting thing about this episode is that four more key animators are listed than usual. Of course, the models are still awfully and the fluidity dips sometimes, which is a shame. Episode #178 (which covers twenty-four pages) has some very good choreography and filler fighting.
Episode #179, of course, is supervised/key animated by Masunaga Keisuke and Studio Cockpit. As such, it's an incredible episode.

Speaking of DBZ, after looking @the Kanzentai links I'm surpised how many of the One Piece animation directors became very prolific starting with the Cell Saga through Dragonball GT. Heck, GT is where Noboru Koizumi popped up!

Yup, Dragon Ball GT slid into the second Dr. Slump anime and then One Piece for Toei, so it'd make sense that the production teams would slide over like that. It's a shame some of the other animators didn't hop onto One Piece too.

What are Ueda Yoshihiro's other episoed he directed?
"The common man is the most powerful man. Long live the proletariat."
So, episode #505 should cover chapter #590. Seems we'll remain fourty chapters behind Oda.

Yes, fourty chapters and we will get fillers maybe something bettween 5-10
Thanks for that, Eliman.
I was hoping Hisada doing episode 505 (Probably Chapter 590), damn it. Ide? I don't like his style, his art. Oh well. I guess it could've been worse though.
Nakatani is back, that's awesome!
Hm, doesn't look like they'll be trying to squeeze much filler out of the montage towards the end of the flasback. That's a little surprise, I suppose.
I'm looking more forward to the batch after this one, though.
Wait, next week is Yokoyama? Damn looks way way better than his usual episodes.
Yes!!! Nakatani is back, and it seems that Sumio Watanabe is not the episode director like her previous episodes since Impel Down.
I really wanted Nakatani or someone really good to do Chap 590 that's one of my all time favorite chapters. I hope Ide gets a proper staff with him(Like Onishi XD).
We might see Tate in the next list or the one after. Also, Deguchi's episode might be good since I think he won't do much key animation in it, cause he worked on ep 499.
Why Ueda for 505?! Why? >_<
I was watching some Ide's episodes, he's not as bad as I was thinking. Actually, it's pretty standard like Hisada, not bad at all. I think I was confusing with some Takagi episodes.
Hisada, Ide, Yamashita, and to a lesser extent Shimanuki and Takagi are all kinda cut from the same cloth when it comes to their art styles.
Yeah, Ide's style is pretty decent and clean, actually, especially for normal One Piece animation standards; like Crossword said, his style isn't so different from Hisada's own, actually.
Not to mention, he was also the AD for Luffy and Usopp's fight, which I thought was drawn and animated fairly well.
Think they'll keep animation this way for the Time Skip?
Luffy fan.
LuffyxHancock or LuffyxNami? I can't decide.
