Think they'll keep animation this way for the Time Skip?
Unless they replace Hisada with someone else as character designer and/or change up the animation director roster I can't imagine the show's art style changing all that much from what it is now.

I mean, obviously it will gradually change over time just as Oda's does, but it won't be like once we hit chapter 598 a switch will be flipped and everything will be different.

Speaking of, I should probably put together new image sets for the Straw Hats when we get to that point. And this time not save them as jpegs.

I'm sure Toei will give OVA/movie quality animation for that... at least for couple of episode...

I wouldn't mind them stepping it up a bit for the Time Skip. I could see it for the first few episodes.
    Luffy fan.
LuffyxHancock or LuffyxNami? I can't decide.

I would be very happy if the animation quality was returned to what the anime had during the Sabaody arc.

I agree with Hisada and Ide, like the "standard clasic OP art style"... but Megumi Yamashita's style is actually quite better than before. In fact I really love the way she draws face expresions. I think her style is pretty unique today. Here a sample... see that Megumi style is some more squarish than the others ones. Along with better masculinization of her faces. (GAR)

    Spoiler:

Instead, Takeo Ide have a more clasic style. Even I consider Ide style like the most faithful compared to character designer (Hisada) style...

    Spoiler:

Actually and judging her last episode (472). Nakatani I think is the better balance between good art and good animation. Tate for example is strongly criticized by fans for his fluid but sometimes "overexpress" way to draw.
Nevertheless Nakatani controls, in a better way her art.

So I'm really happy to see her name again in the AD list.

I'm hoping for Naoki Tate to handle two chapters as the title suggests, cause chapter 503 have epic scene at the end.
And Chapter 504 and 505 are filled with action, makes me wonder if Takagi will also handle 2 chapters, since most of the content of these two chapters can fit in a few minutes of animation, and not to forget less dialogue.

I'll finalize the war one next week, still not sure who did the WB scene in 478.

Oh....oh man. That's gorgeous. I can't believe Toei's let the rotation become this sloppy.

Do we know what happened to Onishi? I don't think he's done anything for the main series since Kaze wo Sagashite.

Did you miss some of my posts by chance? He is now working on Toriko, he even did Animation Direction for the first time for Toriko, he did many awesome scenes on Toriko, I'll be doing some MAD for Toriko but I have to find a RAW without the annoying time display in the corner.

If you count the OPxToriko special, then he did the last scene with Toriko finishing the eagle.

Oh right, right, I remember you saying he did the ''knife and fork'' scene in the crossover. Slipped my mind.

Do scenes like the ones that Tomita or Hisada did cost more than the usual scenes?

Onishi is without a doubt one of my favorites. Too bad he's mainly on Toriko now, but it's not a bad series... No complaints here. I like Tomita too, but I'm still not a fan of the waxy shading. It works for certain things, but sometimes they are consistent with the episode itself(like in ID). Thanks for the vid Murad. I'm really anticipating owning this the TB arc on DVD whenever it arrives.

Who's doing the next episode? It looked really nice to me in the preview, particularly the part where Luffy did the Gum-Gum Pistol.

It's Nakatani, good to see her back, really.

Yeah, it's a relief to have Nakatani back.

    @Hiroy, You are welcome.

Nope, but they do take more time than usual. Tomita is an in-house animator, Toei are using him everywhere on their shows since he is special.

I heard 1 One Piece episode, takes around 6 months to finish. Is it true?

How many long it takes to draw 1 frame?

    1. It takes between 1 and 2 months to finish one episode.

    2. That depends on the artists' abilities and the details of the drawings.

That depends on the quality of the episode, I would say 2-3 months for the average episodes, and 3-4 for the good episodes. That's how I feel it is going according to the rota.
