I never had a grudge on homosexuals or transgenders. However, when ODA first introduce Bon Clay... I was like WTF! Ballerina with tons of make up and with freaky scary hairy legs and a swan as a uniform O_O And me being french didn't help at all....
I am glad Oda showed that Bon Clay was a pretty cool guy after all.

Why did this thread get bumped? It's really old... wow... I didn't even notice it the first time around...

But from reading the first page, it seems some people don't quite get the terminology.

Okama = Slang for Gay/ Homosexual men. It only applies to crossdressers because Japan lumps them in with Gays via the stereotype. Pretty much just like intolerant people do here in the US. A proper translation for it would be some slang that doesn't specifically refer to either "Gay" or "Transvestite" but could mean both. FUNi using "Queer" and "Fairy" is pretty much straight on the money.

New Half = Transsexual. A Transsexual is someone whose mind is one gender but their body is another. Hormones are taken, and the problem is fixed.
That's where "New Kama" comes from. It's the "New" from New Half and the "Kama" from Okama, since some of the New Kama are just guys who dress up, while some of them actually became Women thanks to Ivankov and his hormones.

As for my actual thoughts on the subject of the Okama/ New Half/ Newkama etc... I have some personal stake in the issue, so no comment. XD
