I am SO uneasy about this. I mean, if they made the Chipmunks look like gangbangers, does that mean Yogi'll look like a pimp?

    Edit:

Yogi's exploits take place in Jellystone Park, where he and Boo Boo get into good-natured mischief and must elude their nemesis, Ranger Smith.
Methinks this is not a good way to describe the good Ranger. I now have horrible ideas of the climax of the movie being Smith and Yogi fighting to the death over Jellystone ridge.

The Chipmunks were not gangbagers in the actual movie, just that first poster. The douchebag, non-Dave manager they had for a short while in the movie tried to make them such, but they hated it.

The Alvin movie turned out really good, and that's no more absurd than Yogi Bear. If one can be done, so can the other.

Hmmm, you know what? I don't care about the movies or their content. It's just starting to get dull hearing about 'this and that' being remade.

I'll have to second that. I'm particularly annoyed with Burton trying to remake a lot of classic films when his original plots have been tons better. Well, his Sleepy Hollow was great too, but there hasn't been a solid, definitive LA version of that for people to go to.

I think remaking is the "in" thing to do right now. Though, I can understand why you would want to. It's a great way to introduce old stories to new generations. But still, can't they come up with something original?

Why risk on originality when you can just milk money off nostalgia? At least, that's what the CEOs seem to be thinking.

*sigh* We don't need live-action Yogi Bear. WE DON'T NEED IT. Hanna Barbara cartoons are really not suited for live-action.

    "hey, boo boo"....GTFO

note to film makers. Roger Rabbit was popular cause if was new and unique. Maybe all the writer went on strike, cause they couldn;t come up with any other ideas.

EDIT: waa. no pics. I wanna see how dumb yogi looks. is he gonna look abstract like when they did rocky and bulwinkle, or is he gonna look realistic like the chipmunks. I wanna see a hybrid. (imagines a real looking bear with those tiny little yogi legs) XD

At the end of the day. Neither Garfield movie changed my life what so ever, same with the Alvin and the Chipmunks film. I heavily doubt this will change anything either. If you just ignore it and not make a big deal out of it we'll all be fine.

Now the 300 sequel that's depressing!

I rather them milk a franchise (and make it good) then go for originality going for originality doesn't always pan out.

The problem with milking is most of the remakes aren't nearly as good as originals, and fans of the originals know this and bash it. I mean, how could a sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth or Around the World in 80 Days ever live up to the original in the eyes of those who saw the originals? I grew up with Journey but saw Around as an adult, and both were stunning. The idea of a remake just pisses me off.

One thing remakes do though is allow newbie writers some practice before they make their own films, though $100M should never be spent so a newbie can get some practice.

The problem with those people is that they fear change even if that actually betters the film

I for one don't mind remakes especially when it involves movies that should get remakes

Exactly, usually those are the ones that failed.

Still there are plenty of original movies in making. Remakes makes up just a small portion. It's just these remakes gets lots of more attention, that's all. I do not care about this remake though. I have never even heard of the original! But I have to admit there are quite few remakes I'm anticipating. The new Dune movie for example.
