Default Rethinking the AP Spoiler Policy

    Hey Everyone:

I wanted to make a serious suggestion concerning the Arlong Park spoiler policy. Over the last couple of days I and several members of the podcast I run have run into spoilers on the forum on locations that can't necessarily can't be avoided. For example, the title of Chapter 574 which in and of itself may not be a spoiler and one other thread were visible on the front page:

    Spoiler:

    Chapter 574, "The Death of..."
    Spoiler:

    Spoiler:

    "R.I.P. Portgas D. Ace"

I was thinking of an interesting solution that I believe we can all agree on when it concerns spoilers in our forum. My solution is to combine the Spoilers Forum with a RAW Forum to make "Spoilers/RAWs" so that until scanlations come out, those who enjoy reading the manga and not a bunch of pictures taken on a camera phone. This way we can all go to the manga forum without accidentally coming upon information that can potentially ruin a chapter. It would also make it possible for those curious if the raw was coming out could just go to that forum and see the RAW listed and say, "oh, the raw is out!" This way the progression of a chapter thread can go like this:

    In the Spoiler/RAW Forum:
    Spoiler Ch. 724
    RAW Ch. 724

    In the Manga Forum:
Chapter 724, "One Piece is Really a Sled"

That way, we don't have to be spoiled and everyone will know when the raw is out, and those who like reading a chapter to camera phone pictures and a rough translation will be able to do that. I propose this in the wake of spoilers that were posted all over the Manga Forum, all over peoples' profiles, and all over this forum in general.

Thank you all for your time,
    Zach

Another thing we could perhaps move the manga and anime forum down in the index order, so people who scroll down to Media/Other Manga/Anime don't have to get a face full of spoiler when they're browsing main.

Man, today made me feel really sorry for anyone who's not up to date.

(If you don't know why that is, you should get out of here ASAP and avoid One Piece-related internets until you're 100% caught up.)

By now the GNAA has made sure that many anime-only watchers are crying for one reason or another.

How about adding a simple rule that forbids adding a *spoiler* sig/avatar etc until an English scan is out?

And about chapter name, a simple grease-monkey script can censor out for those who dont want to read it :)

Maybe just not allow spoilers on here at all. What was the difference between spoiler and full chapter release? One day?

i see, we can`t create a line where something is okay to be revealed and something not...
for me the thing now is rly a SPOILER!!!....also robin joining is a stunner(always have to think there about greg) ... and you`re right...revealing cp9`s true faces sure are a big SPOILER..

but in fact the line is rly thin...
i think we should stay with such infor in the manga sections and nowhere else...in the anime section we should also keep the pace like the anime...everywhere else we shouldn`t talk much about it.
wouldn`t be fair for those who still will have THAT GREAT STORY to expierence.

Yes, let's drive away about 3/4 of apforum's weekly traffic.

They're not even really "spoilers" for people who are up to date. Just un-formatted chapter contents.

Given the primary reason of spoiling this week was Oda's choice of chapter title... i think an easy solution would be from now on to simply name a chapter thread:

    Chapter 574 Discussion

hell a mod could even put in the title after scans have been released if the title was absolutely necessary to have

The problem with that, as I see it, is that a lot of people here consider camera raws the same as a chapter release, when in fact they are most certainly not. The thing is, a chapter release implies that discussion throughout the manga forum is allowed, and I don't think the majority of non-spoiler people read the camera raws of the chapter instead of the nicely scanlated, translated chapters. Those who read spoilers are the one's who care about the phone camera raws, why not just wait until an official chapter release until it actually is scanlated so no there're no complaints on either side (see first post for full suggestion).

In reference to the troll in the thread: get the hell out of here.

As I mentioned to you yesterday on Skype, the problem is more about the users than the rules. Outside requiring approval for every user, every thread, and every post, then there is no way to prevent spoilers completely. The bigger the spoiler, the higher the chances it will leak out and spoil someone. Some things can be changed, yes, but we cannot stop people from creating threads or making a post in the wrong section.

For example, the thread name idea is decent. We could consider altering the rules so that chapter threads lack thread titles, and maybe change the requirement to having the chapter title centered at the top of the first post, for example. This won't stop someone from messing that naming scheme up some day, causing a "leak" for a short amount of time until a mod corrects it, but it is a start. Another change can be to disallow any thread titles that are too descriptive in regards to content from any given chapter; basically, anything that could be considered a spoiler to those who only follow the anime or wait until the full chapter release comes out. Like "Whitebeard's Quake Fruit" would be a no-no if the chapter itself reveals that Whitebeard is a fruit user, and that the fruit is the Gura Gura Fruit. Poor example, given that type of thread isn't allowed anyway, but you get the idea. "RIP Ace" serves as a case in point.

As for the main point? I have no qualms (personally) with suppressing the "chapter release" thread until a full scanlation is out, similar but different to what Ms. Bad-Beet suggested. People might complain, but I don't see the harm. It might help iron out the misinformation, in fact. Any way, we can consider possible adjustments or changes, but even with said changes, the system won't be perfect.
