Thread: The Thread Crasher's Crash Pad

    Default Re: Cuddles' Critique Corner

Ever think up of a character, and was amazed by his/her development?
I've had characters with me since middle school (I'm now 23), and some of their development has been a slow, almost painful process.
This character was only made literally around 3 years ago, and already she's becoming a creation I can take pride in. A lot of other new characters actually develop at the same pace as her (the world my characters live in allow for more rapid development), but she in particular has been astonishing.
I didn't want to go to sleep tonight without doing a portrait of her.
The only practice I was doing was on a slightly emaciated body, breasts, and shading.
    Hope you like:

Well, here it is, the last of the four elemental backgrounds:
    Hidden:

For this pic, I used oil pastel on the structures for a wet look, then used blended grainy chalk for the sand. Finally, I made a layer of wash on a transparent layer to give it an underwater look, with some light dodging to create the illusion of light.
Now if you'll excuse, I have to introduce blood serpents, dead mermaids (well, Rusalki, but almost the same thing) and a very pissed Luvellan and give them an underwater look too.
And since we're on the subject of background themes, I need to do another four character based backgrounds, so I want to know which of these sound more appealing to you guys: Otakus, Outlaws, or Soldiers?
It's not necessarily going to be what you expect, just what next group of characters are going to be done.
If no one speaks up, I'll be going with Otakus.
EDIT: Oh, and this image size has been reformatted to be smaller, so it might look a little funny.
And one more thing--I just noticed that on my DA comic, some of the pages are being fav'd..before they get any views.
In other words, it has one fave within seconds of being submitted, but no views to go with it.
Also, I guess I have a reader now, as some pages are being downloaded, except it's only the pages that aren't marked as mature. Is is just me, or is that a little strange?

Really glad you like it Mint.
I'm guessing I 'did it right' this time, then?
That being said...as always, I will put up the finished picture, but just so that you know...the scene is 'less beautiful.'
Basically, I made good on my luvellan/dead rusalki statement, as I had planned it.
Pic is matured to be on the safe side, obviously.

Took me FOREVER to find a tool I liked to make blood. Turns out it's a felt tip marker.
The only problem I had is that I didn't make the blood transparent enough and the Rusalki don't come out looking too hot. But I'm around 85% satisfied.

Well, I guess for every time I complete a set, I'm thinking of doing 'extra pictures.'
These are pretty much just practice sketches, plus a One Piece picture, and maybe one more to look nice.
In tradition of showing sketches, here's some practice I did on one of my characters:
    Hidden:

    Cuddles the Dark

This is the character I named myself after. Technically, I guess I'm Cuddles II.

My second sketch was to see how long it would take for me to make a recognizable picture (speed sketching). In this case, it took me about 40 minutes.
You know how we're starting to get comics based off of our 'adventures' here in AP? This is something along the same vein:
    Hidden:

    California Dreamin'

*mumble* Stupid Snocone and Funk just watch one day I'm going to make a kajillion dollars and they'll be like 'can we borrow some' and I'll say 'no' then I'll eat a swinub in front of them *grumble grumble*
EDIT: While there are all kinds of things wrong with the sketch, one part that bothers me is that you might not know what that white thing is on my face. It's a surgeon's mask.

Some time this week I'm going to make a nice picture of my cat and another of Smoker and Tashigi.

Here's my fan pic for Smoker and Tashigi. The only new thing I really tried is the 'double-shadow' (basically shadows and shading in dark spaces).
It was supposed to be night time here with some moon light, but I think the lighting just came across as weird.
Out of all the marines, Smoker is the only one who strikes me as taking responsibility and cleaning up the mess made from Whitebeard's mess:
    http://chescahans.deviantart.com/art/Clean-Up-163095163
Deviantart isn't embedding right, so I'm just giving the link.
That and I'm too lazy to upload to tinypic right now.

Sorry, but I couldn't finish the practice pic for this week (the Soul Eater crew doing a rock concert).
Not only was did I find the idea bad, but I couldn't draw it too well.
I'll try to work it out to be something that actually looks presentable, then try chugging it out again within the next couple of weeks.
Just to put something up, it's going to be a pic of when I first started getting used to using my tablet and drawing.
Basically, just say whatever you want about it, and I'll try and make improvements.
    Hidden:

    Desolation Row

    Until next time, I guess...
EDIT: Eh, what the hell? Rarely anyone comes here anyway.
Meet my kid (and a teaser poster for Act II of my Crappy Comic):
    Hidden:

I will eventually shade this to give her a more menacing look, but for now, I just want to show off a character I've learned to love drawing.

    Alright guys, two things:
    1. Cuddle's Critique Corner will be on hold for a while. I love doing art, but I don't like doing it when I'm in a rut.
I will eventually go back once I'm inspired, but I don't want to force art.
To DanialG and Mokenda Mint, thank you for your input, and I'm sorry to do this right now.
    2. For now, I'm going to draw things for fun, and to start, I want to put up the intro to a small comic: Thread Crashers.
    Hidden:

For now, this is only the intro. I want to take this one step at a time. If it works out, I'll make as many pages as possible.
Hopefully all the way to the end.
As I said in Snocone's thread, anyone who wants an avatar can just ask. This is in the early stages, so I still have a lot of room for moving.
EDIT: I realize that you can't read the dialogue in the beginning:
    There were four Princesses.
Taboo, who maintained her kingdom's fascination with the arts.
Puffin, who was a battle princess.

    Part II: Meet Snocone
I am, at the very least, going to draw the story up to where they rescue the first princess.
Also, if people could start nominating who should be in the story, please do so so I can make a list of who to draw at some point (you don't need to list those already drawn).

    EDIT: Part III: Meet Shuhan
    Hidden:

Also, a disclaimer: The events in this story (relationships and all that) might not be accurate (duh).

This is great Cuddles, never ever thought I'd see myself in a comic!

    Feels... so... loved...

    Keep up the good work!

    EDIT:

    Ooooooooooo... love it.

Love how I'm Jimbei, and hope that Chrissie dosen't hate me too much
    Can't wait for the rest!

Just so that you know, I just added your part.
Meet Robo and Meet Cuddles will be up later, then I'll wait a couple of days to wait for nominations.
Also, congrats on being the first person to hit Chrissie.

    NOW I'm getting some sleep.
But now I see why you guys do this: it's fun. =D

I would say The Sea and Strawhat Rican deserve spots, that is if they want in. Dunno what they'd be doing, I leave that up to you, being it's your story.

Yep, looks like your gonna be the green princess, congrats!

    Edit:
Never thought for a minute that my crazy idea would give birth to a good story.
What's even more crazy is people are aknowleging my existence.

@Puffin: Actually, it's Corel, not paint.
@Shuhan: Sea, Wagomu, SHR and Kairouseki will have roles later.
Without further ado, here's the somewhat Gary Stu-ish Part V:
    Meet Cuddles

Puffin's Moltar is based on the Toonami one, and that little bit with NCD will be revisited in the story (hint: JD's villain pic is canon, but he's not a traitor)
