Infraction system?

I've long known vb to have this function but this is the first time I've ever seen it actually used on AP. How's this work? If people get 10 infraction points they get permabanned?

I've heard (lol) that after getting 3 you taste the ban hammer. Though it's actually different in practice. It apparently depends on the mods/admins. I survived a long time with 3... It was a scary experience!

i have 1 infraction but its worth 0 points.
so i'll get ban on 2 more infractions or 3 points?

Actually what's the point of an infraction if it has 0 points? It must help them making a decision when your status is critical.

What would also be interesting is to know how long an infraction stays (i can't believe that some can stay forever when users can change that fast on the internet)... I mean i had one for 2 years...

We don't really use the points system. Three infractions puts you under consideration for a ban, but does not necessarily equate to one. The ratio of members to mods/admins is so great that monitoring the count for each member perfectly requires a fair amount of time, so the farther apart they are the less likely it will result in an immediate ban. The more active and more destructive members on the forum obviously get a higher priority so far as infractions are concerned, and depending on the posts in question a ban can come much sooner than simply three infractions. They can be reversed as well, like Magnetic's old one was. If you follow the short list of rules you should be able to avoid getting any infractions at all, really.

You actually never had three infractions. One was a warning, not an infraction.
