Yeah, but most of the time, it fails pretty badly. I can't think of a single "in media res" that worked except for Shin Mazinger, and it was needed for Shin Mazinger because:

    1. The first 8 episodes are slow, and are foundation for the rest of the series.
    2. It's basically a retelling of the Mazinger manga events everyone is familiar with.

I haven't watched an anime for a long time. A long time ago, I watched FLCL and TTGL and I LOVED THEM. I also watched Hellsing and it was good.

I'm looking for animes that are over-the-top, like FLCL and TTGL, so any suggestions, anyone?

Go watch Panty and stocking... it's by the same director of TTGL and it's way over the top.

Anyone here watched Guin Saga? I'm planning to download the series, would like to know if it's good enough to be worth watching.

Dead Leaves. It's a 50 minute movie that's more over the top than anything I seen. Same director too.

    Mixed:

20th/21st Century Boys (didn't read yet)
    Homunculus (gets sickening)
History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi (read few chapters bad)

Nice fighting art but only fair plot:

    Jackals (good art fair plot)
The Breaker (good art fair plot)
Hajime No Ippo (start good, insightful for boxing, later line art bad)
Fairy Tail (nice art fair/copied plot)
    Gantz (nice art fair plot)
Naruto (good but not even close to one piece anyway)
    Claymore (good art fair plot)

    Masters category:

    Vinland Saga (great-excellent)
    Vagabond (great-excellent)
    Full Metal Alchemist (great-excellent)
    One Piece (great-excellent)

    Angel Densetsu (fun-great)
    Kyou Kara Ore Wa (fun-great)
Art, story/plot and what it covers are all important, I like war/peace but I prefer mangas that have a good plot/philosophy behind like One Piece, Vagabond, Full Metal Alchemist, any recommendations

Just wondering: which would I read first, Toriko or Beelzebub? I'm looking for an ongoing Shonen Jump manga to read, and I've heard good things about both, but I can't decide which one to read through first.

    Beelzebub. Hilarious and interesting series.

I stopped reading Toriko very early on for some reason.
Zik Of The 7 Swords: Vision? What do you know about my vision? My vision would turn your world upside down, tear asunder your illusions, and send the sanctuary of your own ignorance crashing down around you. Now ask yourself, Are you ready to see that vision?

Beelzebub for hilarious high-school delinquint comedy.

Toriko for hard-core shonen fantasy action.

    Whichever suits your taste best.

It's good. A bit like Legend of the Legendary Heroes but not as polished or developed, I felt. It's an old series, but it didn't feel horribly antiquated like Golgo13.

I think everyone should watch and read Gintama, its an awesome Manga/Anime.
Naruto is so cool it has 600 billion naked Zetsus with armadillo penises dancing under an rainbow.

+1 - absolute hilarity! If you are a fan of Christopher Moore's novels than you will love GinTama.

Does anybody know how an avid One Piece fan like myself would feel about Negima?
