Thread: Marc Webb's Spiderman Reboot

My problem is that I directly think about Maguire when I think about the motion picture Peter Parker.
I think he can pull a good Peter from his looks but I don't know if he is a good actor.

So I think we'll have to wait.

And honestly: most of the time - or at least half of the movie - he is Spider-Man so you don't even see his face.

Thinking about that though, you have me wondering - It's obviously a reboot, so they're
going to want to emphasise the differences. So I wonder what the New Spiderman Costume will look like?

Probably just a few minor alterations here and there, but I definately don't think they'll give him Maguire's exact suit.

He cant possibly make a worse Parker than i thought Maguire was.

Atleast with this guy i dont want to punch him in the face when i see him.

Hey, Maguire was a terrible Peter AND Spiderman. So. Anyone else is probably a step up.

Presumably Snaggletooth is gone too, right?

The only thing i worry about in this whole remake is whether or not J.K Simmons will be brought back.

If not it will drag down the final score by atleast 2 points.

Yeah. J.J.J. was the best part of that franchise.

    Easily.

For the most part, I wasn't a huge fan of the films. They were decent "catch you up in the moment at the the theatre" fare, but they didn't hold together too well after you finished watching them and thought about them at all. (And I absoluteley HATED Spidey's costume. It looked terrible, and there is just NO WAY a high school kid makes that on no budget.)

Hey Can we get the crew that did the Spectacular Spiderman toon to at least write the movie? And choreograph the fight scenes? That would be good. That would instantly guarantee some awesome.

I would also give a honorable mention to Bruce Campbell, but yeah.

But yeah getting the spec guys on board would be a good move, not quite as good as giving the entire movie budget to the spec guys and having them ressurect the tv show but still a good move.

    A couple personal thoughts:

    1. A Brit as Spider-Man? (yeah he was born in the US but still...) Could work but just have this feeling...
    2. No Carnage. Ever. (at least I can accept Venom see that as convoluted as he is, he is just part of the rogues gallery)
    Y'know, Negima WAS awesome...
    For the first 18 volumes.

    Mentioned that in the parethesis.

As for villain: I say do someone a bit more lesser known like how they used Sandman last time. Chameleon is a good choice, Electro or Kraven or Mysterio would be neat too. (I'd say Hobgoblin but if it's a reboot then we wouldn't have the Green Goblin yet...unless they go the 90s animated series route with Hobgoblin existing first)

Howsa bout the Scorpion? Not to heavy on the back story and a lot of bang for your bucks.

As for Kraven i like the dude and i'd love to see him on the big screen, but how is he ever going to fill the big bad guys shoes. I mean he's a guy who's kinda strong in a jungle garb and shoots darts at people. Once Spidey gets past his poisons he beats him in two seconds flat.

But like i've said before what i'd love to see a a spidey flick that has more of an episodic feel to it, yknow there isnt one main villain there are 2 or 3 of them in the entire movie and they get wrapped up alot faster. Something like the Shocker robs a bank, brief fight and gab, bam there ends the fight and we're moving on with Peters social mishaps, oh what's that Rhino is ripping up shit down town in the middle of the date, cue the nicely coreographed fight scene etc etc you get the point.

Thus making it so that the focus of the story is on Peter Parker and his life, and the spidey fighting villains bit is more of the sideline and not the end all. No 2 hour build up that ends in a boring "dramatic" showdown ending on top of the empire state building but just another day where the teenager fighting a supervillain schtick cuts into his dating life, his family responsibilities and his job and how it all combines to lead in to a bummer ending for plain ol' Parker.

Wow... I can't believe I just read that. You really need to read Kraven's Last Hunt and the currently-running Grim Hunt.

Well Kraven's last hunt does seem pretty good, but i dont think any story lines that involve burying people alive or blowing your own brains out is going to float in a PG-13 flick.

If it put it this way then, i dont see how any version of the character that they're willing to do in a spidey in high school setting could ever be a credible threat for the duration of the film.

I find Mysterio about as entertaining as watching paint dry.

But he would bring in the whole CGI is awesome crowd, which i'm sure those producers would like after watching what Avatar made. But does he have it in him to be that large scale villain, always thought of him as a second fiddle to the big bad.

Kraven's actually about equal in strength with Spidey in certain stories. He wasn't just a perfect physical specimen, he also had potions and black magic if you want to get technical. He even has tricks that screw up Spider Sense.

Also, if Batman Dark Knight can have terrorist acts, murder by stabbing someone with a pencil, and torturing a man to death and sending his corpse as a calling card, all while having a PG 13 rating, then I see no issue with a drugged and beaten Spider-Man being buried alive for awhile and Kraven committing suicide... offscreen no less.

Well Batman was always darker, and that wasnt taking place during Bruce Waynes high school days in a sunlit suburb. But honestly even if they could get away with it i dont ever want to see Spidey go down that "dark" and "edgy" road again, he's just not that kind of character atleast not in my eyes.

As for his strenght maybe they've upgraded him, but as i remember it originaly Kraven was far weaker than him. I think he had strenght for about 3 ton. While Spidey as a youngster had 10 tonish or so. Which pretty much meant lights out as soon as he got one clean punch in, but then again it is kinda evened out by how Kraven cheats at every possible point in a fight, with the oh so hilarious nerve pinch and those bags of jungle dust. God i love him.

But yeah i'm pretty much stuck at the Ditko Kraven, maybe his revamps has added some kind of seriousness to him.

Ditko Kraven was his early stuff. He was still a pain, but not that bad, I suppose, but honestly, not many of the initial installments were seriously threats. Look at most of the first appearances for most of the villains. Still, Kraven is MORE than capable of headlining a movie. Even just the Spider-Man Animated Series from the '90s version of Kraven was awesome.

And it could be dark without ruining Spidey's character. I could see it working well.

Either way, it's doubtful they'd do a movie on the lesser-known villains. Sadly.

    Kingpin? Electro?

I'd like to finally see Electro in the movies.
