Toph is totally alive, but she's too badass for a cameo. Her daughters got this.

Who says that they couldn't get high-quality iron or steel if they wanted to? The question is why would they want to in the first place?
Platinum is a fairly good conductor of electricity, is quite a bit stronger than you'd expect for a metal that is so easy to work with, and is a lot heavier than either copper or silver. On top of that, one of the few industries in Republic City that would actually be reliant on Firebending from the start is metalworking; the Equalists would need a metal than can be worked by means other than casting.
Well we pretty much called that episode. And Asami is now a part of Team Avatar!
And yes it's the mid-season break. Hopefully new episodes resume before summer's end. :(
But platinum is so much scarcer of a metal that it's hard to believe they have as highly developed manufacturing techniques for it as iron or steel. Even if platinum is easier to work, that doesn't make it easier to harvest. And considering the usefulness of iron or steel, I'm sure manufacturing processes for them have been developed thoroughly enough for them to be much more accessible. Not only that, but most of that would be easily within Mr. Sato's reach, considering the industry he's in.
But this is getting a bit silly for a show in which people turn water into ice by making flamboyant gestures at it.
I love this thread more than I love the show.
No sarcasm.
@Wagomu: Maybe the world they live in has a bigger supply of Platinum than our world does. After all, it is a different universe compared to ours.
Oh, I've acknowledged that in my heart, but my brain won't have peace.
Plus, platinum is mostly used for its conductivity and considering that they don't have a well-developed understanding of electricity-SHUTUPSTUPIDBRAIN
i am kind of curious why they didn't just make up a metal
but hey MECHAS

how amazing is this series now. giant mechs made of platinum, race tracks and all the metal benders being like spiderman. damn i love this series
Far as scarcity goes, platinum and related metals can be found in magmatic formations and there is an entire nation that has lived on, in, and around such formations for millenia. The Fire Nation should have tremendous reserves of precious metals as a result.
Not really a surprise as Amon had blueprints for them on his wall early on; second episode or so I think.Originally Posted by taboo
Although Asami's joining Korra and the others seems a good thing, her easy usage of the eletric gauntlet to beat her dad and that other guy down was way too convenient. Since I saw that there was a masked woman besides Amon in the last episode, when he does his speech, I started suspecting that Asami could be that woman. But I guess I'm just overthinking it.
Amazing episode anyway.
Is it me or has Korra been getting her ass kicked and have been looking helpless the whole series? It feels as if every episode Korra looses her fights and always get scared.

I'm wondering just when we're going to see her enter the Avatar State. I'm wondering what happened in the flashback with Aang had some sort of effect on the Avatar Spirit, not allowing Korra to enter the Avatar State. You would think she would have entered it when she faced Amon, considering the state is meant to be a defense mechanism.
I still think that Korra going into the avatar state is part of Amon's plans. As such, I doubt it'll happen until the season finale
Okay 1. Awesome. 2. Man I'm glad! I was totally expecting a giant Godzilla like robot that smashes the city but this... Beautiful. The last two episodes have blown my mind.
I've been thinking about her avatar state and it's something you might need some spiritual control over right? I think she will be the Godzilla who smashes the city. I dunno though Amon could use that. *shrug*
Ah ye, there is that one theory about fear being her avatar state trigger and you become reckless with fear, maybe even lash out so if she can't focus it on one target... OR maybe she will be like "the shit is going wild", go focused Korra = Avatar state. We've seen so much kickass stuff maybe she will own everyone and BOOM being ready to face the spiritual aspects and enter book two. That just seems so nice of the writters that I can't belive it. :P
