Before, I watched the anime, up until 1/3 of the way through Skypiea. Back then, I had caught up to K-F's releases, and wanted to see what happened next. I forget the chapter number, but I remember the one I started with was the end of Luffy and Sanji's fight with Satori.

I started on chapter 400 or 401 (I don't remember which) after getting roughly caught up (I skipped over parts of Skypiea, as the MSN group scanlations were poor and I didn't know how important it was at the time); I don't remember the exact chapter number, but I know that the CP9 battles were just starting.

Not bad, knowing that weekly chapters were provided first in the i-net after the Alabasta-saga constantly.
On which site you were at that time to get those chapters, or did you just have the raws back then?

As far as I remember, it was chapter 431, the Fist of Love. And tehn I read the whole manga just to fill in the gap between the end of Alabasta arc (up until I saw the anime) and that 431 chapter.

It would have been a lot sooner, but the first time i tried to pick up the manga was during a pretty hectic time for me. That combined with the crappy quality of the early scans and i was just like fuck it. Took me about a year to pick it up again.

SO are we talking bout the first time we read OP or the first...oh... weekly chapters huh? My first weekly chapter was the start of Jaya, I got it from an MSN group (One Piece group V2 I think. Its probably close now). I started out on the Indonesian translated tankoubons right from chapter 1 waaay back in 2001 (OP wasnt all the hype it is now). And been following it since, but the publisher wasn't consistent with its monthly release so I searched for other sources and found the MSN group.

Let's see, the chapter where we see Luffy use Gear 3 for the first time and immediately shrink (when busting down the door). It was weird cause it was my first time peeking at OP manga stuff (I wasn't caught up with the anime yet) and I was like "WTF, the author actually draws Luffy like this? The anime version is soo much better"

I started reading One Piece in the Shonen Jump magazine that I bought for my son it was at Little Garden, at the time I had no idea about manga online being a bit of a ludite at the time and not having a computer at home,

I started reading it online around Thriller Bark days couldn't say exactly when as at the time I did not follow it regularly as I didn't want to have to much prior knowledge of the Shonen Jump releases. however I started reading it every week around chapter 500 or so

First read the manga online some 9 years ago, got to Jaya/beginning of Skypia, dropped it.

Somewhere in the middle, picked it up, finished Skypia and DBF.

Picked it up again some 4 years ago, went through the whole Water 7 Saga,

then came Chap. 430, read it online in an Apple store, had to hold back tears.

Been following faithfully on a weekly basis since.

I stopped buying the volumes at the end of the crocodile arc. So i suggest after that i began reding them online, since chapter 220 or so.
Puh, a damn long time ago, wonder when its going to end..
