4KIDS let the rights to dub lapse in early 2006. And then the rights were given to TAJ productions. But then PUSA decided it
wasnt gonna hire the 4KIDS voice actors since they were 'too expensive' - and didn't even negotiate with 4KIDs, so they recasted.

Well yeah, but 4KIDS let their rights lapse. So it is in a way it is their fault, even if not fully.
Which is strange, because it was their most well-known, staple dub.

No...Nintendo always intended to take over control of the entire franchise, for example Wizards of the Coast let its license "lapse" for the TCG around 2003, but it was really a matter of Nintendo pressuring them to give it up rather than face the stigma of the newly minted Pokemon USA publicly wresting control from them.

It's like in politics, rarely you see someone get "fired" from a position, they usually resign first. Someone who waits to get removed (like Rod Blagojevich) end up making things worse for everyone.

While 4KIDS are awful anime butchers, I'd still have a well-established dub like their Pokemon one atleast remain consistent.

I watched it this morning. It was great, aside from the Surfing Samaria Sweep, quick commercial breaks, and the editing of the bullet scene(looked weird but it was acceptable).

It made me want to watch Yugioh 5Ds as well but then I noticed the generic music tracks 4-Kids normally used and turned off the television.

I'm sure the series it good, but I can't that stand the loud and stretched out music. It feels as if 4-Kid recycles the same 3 songs over and over in every kids show they dub. To me, music is something that helps identify a show.

Truthfully, when I started watching the dub episodes the music bothered me as well, since it's very much inferior (though the first string of JP OPs are not that great). The original background music for 5D's seems to be the best of all three YGO franchises in English OR Japanese.

I complained about how it's not memorable, but talking it over with one of the guys who writes the music for 4Kids via YouTube helped warm me to it. I also remember (vaguely) that 4Kids offered an online poll for 5D's to select which dub opening people liked the best, so it's not like they arbitrarily picked the opening for this one.

I very much encourage you to watch this series, even if the dub might turn you off. Japanese, English, it doesn't matter. Wait until Jam Project gets involved.

if it's been a very long time, they usually let that double post rule slide, if you have a valid reason to bring a thread back up. (bumping a thread to post something worthless is a whole other pile of shit) It looks like taboo is letting this thread go on though. the conversation's decent.

I hope that with Toonazi, following on from that interview on ANN, will be good for all you American folk. Have fun with your Saturday mornings of Dragon Ball Z Kai and Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds.

There doesn't need to be another discussion of 4kids just to pointlessly bash the company. Yes, they screwed up big time but look at the end result. A company has got the show and treat it very seriously. They could have continued to dub it and I'm sure we'd all love to hear more from Zolo, Trace and Chaser.

Speaking of which, was it just me or did the majority of characters who had their names alterated have voices that actually fit them? I mean, those three above were really good choices IMO. Although, I wouldn't defend all of them, like Vivi. Loved how emotional she sounded in that dub.
