Kitsune Fails at Drawing

So, I've decided I want to TRY and draw a comic book, as a few of you already know. I've been doing some research and doodles lately, trying to come up with a design for my characters for Spaghetti Western. I'm trying to pull pointers from other manga while developing my own style. So I've been drawing some doodles and during a session of OP doodles, I happened to draw Eddie, SW's main character, in the same pose as a panel of Luffy in Volume 2, just to get a feel for proportion and whatnot. So, here I now present a really shitty campic, just for you, Arlong Park.



Please note this is only my second day of serious drawing, so I'm looking for criticism and pointers, guys.

I'll start by noting that I fucked up the ear.

Yeah, the ear is pretty messed up :P What I would advice you is to relax your grip on the pencil and make more fluid lines for one. =)

What the fuck? I can't even write while lying down. I'm Osaka (Azumanga Daioh) incarnate when it comes to that! I pass out before I do anything.

That doesn't really matter though, since I can sleep anywhere. ANYWHERE!

In any case, I should at least share a few more of my doodles. (and my nose)



I spent a good while doodling different facial features of Eddie's last night. I took a picture of some of the more decent ones. I like how the one on the bottom right ended up turning out without referencing anything. Has a "Luffy's pissed" feel, though somewhat unintentionally.

Same issues here in that I probably should be sitting up when I draw. But anyhow, this was probably the first serious doodle session I've had.

Hey man, all I can say is this: keep drawing.
Eventually, you're going to find out that trying to adopt a certain style means shit.
Look at me, I'm still learning, but I've improved vastly once I decided to stop being serious and just go with what feels natural. It'll be the same for you.
Also, needs more cactus.
BTW, I'm almost always listening to the radio or music when I draw, and that's supposed to be a bad idea.
I'm still getting used to it.

I don't have Kakutai's 'image' in my head yet. He's gotta be like Pandaman-level in terms of epic.

With that said, I still can't decide on Eddie's final image. The only thing I'm set on is the cowboy hat, the handkerchief, the ponytail, and the facial details for the most part. Oh, and his hair's gotta be brown.

I lay down a lot when I'm drawing too. It's not a bad thing (except for maybe some back troubles)
If anything it helps you learn depth perception better :V

I normally draw while sitting crosslegged and having my binder and paper on my lap. Usually, on whatever surace I'm drawing on, I have my face practically pressed onto the picture.

I can't do that. It makes my feet fall asleep.
Which normally isn't so bad, but whenever I'm drawing, someone (or something) always ends up making me get up and I almost fall on my face XD

So instead, I am just gonna make fun of your drawing!! Ummm... the perspective is bad, the smile is uneven, TOO MUCH Luffy's inspiration, the ear looks like a doughnut and the hat is just... awful. Mwahahahahahahahahahahaha
