Seeing as we now know quite a fair bit about the up coming next gen consoles (Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo Revolution). I thought it might be cool to discuss what people are most looking forward to or anything they don't yet no to be cleared up.
I myself am looking forward to what will be so revolutional about Nintendo's new controller and how will online gameplay evolve?

I am so SICK of hearing about online gameplay.

It's only useful if you have broadband, which many people still don't.

Online centric games often lack in single-player fun, so you can't enjoy the $50 game when offline.

I'm also sick of hearing about it. It's cool, but I don't like it to be a focus.

to be honest I'm not going to buy a new console just because it has a better online play. I just mentioned it as it is what the companies will most likely be focusing most on, due to the high level of people who can't get enough of the idea and I thought it is worth hearing other peoples views on it.

I don't really care for online game play either. If I play someone, I'd rather play someone I know IRL than some stupid six year old kid who only speaks L33t and is a cheap player.

I'm also a bit pissed at how everyone is saying:
"Ooh, wow! Look at what the *insert name here* can do visually!"

Sure, graphics are nice BUT I don't feel they're important. In my eyes a game isn't and shouldn't be made or broken by the graphics. It should depend on how the game plays, if the game's lifespan is good and how easy it is to pick up and play.

However a new SSB game has been confirmed which I like the sound of, and the fact I'll be able to download old Nintendo games.

I'd like to know if Nintendo is going to stop dropping their current consoles like a dead body whenever they announce a new console.

I know that when companies plan something new, the older one gets less and less attention, but it'd rediculous with Nintendo. The only big name stuff coming out for the holidays is the new Zelda game and a bunch of Mario sports games while the Revolution comes out in 2006. Yet Microsoft is still cranking out some big name titles even though their console comes out later this year.

It's just a big ass mistake espically when Nintendo's quartly profits drop 80%.

The focus on online gaming is annoying, but I guess necessary. XBOX Live is one of the more successful things about that system. Online gaming is good if you know the right people to play with (playing with random schmucks is irritating), and if you can play the game yourself (like, online Smash Brothers would be awesome).

As for the new generation... I really don't care, I don't have as much money as I used to, and I want to focus more on schoolwork and getting into college next year.

Online gaming and me don't mix. The only time I played on it, I got my ass handed to me via Halo multiplayer. It was okay, but I prefer single player stuff.

One thing, however, that didn't get much mention in this thread is the prices of the games/consoles. If I do get a next-gen console, it'll be at least a yearafter it launches. The games will probably around $60 a pop (my guestimate).

I'm not very interested in the new consoles, and it would take truly marvelous games (possibly FF XIII, or the new SSB maybe?) for me to even consider bying them, seeing as how the price will propably be too high, and the only real differences would be better graphics...
And more online games. Which I (mostly) don't approve of (Capn' Carters idea is great, for example). The best example for me is propably the Ratcheet and Clank series; UYA was quite enjoyable, but felt like a "GC with online-mode" add on. The fact that Deadlocked is very focused on online kills me.

Also, WTF is up with the PS3 not being compatible with the old memory cards? Whats the point of being able to play your old games, only you have to start over, and they have to occupy space on the new card? Sony better fix this problem, or I won't buy a Ps3- even for a new Final Fantasy.

To be honest, my interest is focused on the Handheld consoles. My GBA has brought me great enjoyment.

In the end, I'm likely to get all three consoles, but there's a little about each one that pisses me off.

The Revolution pisses me off the least, but it annoys me that Nintendo is being so damn secretive about it. I love their online plan, though: all first party games free to play online, small fee for downloading old games (I'll be more than willing to pay,) and WIRELESS. If you don't have a wireless router, you can pick up a USB nintendo router that not only works with the Revolution, but your DS as well. Pair that with cheap at launch and SSB ONline at launch, and I think this will be the first console of the next generation I'm going to get, despite it coming out last.

The X360 is currently shaping up to be the second system I'm gonna buy, mostly because the first price drop will likely come around the time the games I turly want (Lost Oddessy, Blue Dragon, and others) come out. However, their lack of backwards compatibility baffles me, and their inability to ship a console that has everything promised at launch (no HD-DVD drive until next spring) makes me irritated.

That leaves the PS3. It will take ALOT to warrant the cost of that thing for me. At least, more than MGS4 and a Final Fantasy. I'm talking a new Wild ARMs actually coming to america (dammit, when's 4 getting here?), Xenosaga and Nippon Ichi here. However, even them I'm pissed. You can't use your old saves on this system (no memory card slots), you can't use old special controllers like dance pads and light guns (no controller ports,) and forced HD (unless the rumors are true and they actually are planning to allow Standard Definition after all, which would only make me a bit happier.)

So, yeah, that's my two cents. Online play DOES mean something to me, but it shouldn't cost much, if anything at all.

Edit: This just in! Buy an X-Box 360, or the PS3 will be delayed! http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20050804-5170.html

The only reason I ask this of you is because I want the PS3 to be semi affordable by the time good games actually come out.

I'm not really impressed with the new systems. When the PS2, X-box, and GB came out, the graphics were ten times better than the PSX and N64, but the next generation barrely seems like a step above the current gen. Does anyone else think so, or is it just me?
I don't know, they just don't seem very impressive. Especially when a new system will probably cost as much as 400-500 dollars. The only things I've seen so far that really interest me are Blue Dragon and some other RPG for X-box360 that looked interesting.
And as for Online gameplay, I really don't care about it. The reason I play video games is to get away from people and have some fun.

    PS3 all teh way.

Though the lack of memory cards is somewhat discerning... but I'm sure (dead sure) that they'll develop adaprters... you know, wireless doohickeys for the memory cards or something. Or, at the very least, some third parties will develop it.

I´m looking forward for the PS3. The two previous Sony Consoles where the one´s that mostly appealed to my personal console and gaming preferences, so I guess it won´t be any different with the third generation.

And I agree what´s been said about the online factor so far. It sure is a nice feature but the industry shouldn´t focus on it so far. Gaming consoles became popular without that feature so there´s no need in over focusing on something that didn´t make the media big. Consoles are fun to play alone or with your real life friends. Online stuff is what made PC gaming big so keep it that way.

Most likely I won't buy any of them, I had my share of console gaming already and I'm just not that interested anymore. Although I might reconsider if the price tag will remain purse friendly - which it probably won't. Revolution could work out if it fulfills what they're promising but I'm a bit sceptic. Others... well, they won't offer anything my PC already does.

I like online gaming a lot of more and - as a rule - with strategy games (which covers most of mine purchases anyway; I don't buy many though, I uphold for free community and media) usually have either cheating or otherwise stupid AI and hence humans are much more fun (humans can be stupid and cheating too but at least with variety and depth ).

Online play can be fun if you play it with friends. But playing with random people who will go " PWNED N00bS!!111" is really annoying.

warp, do you mean Xbox games? If so, the 360 is supposedly backwards compatible with Xbox games.
