Thread: The Nintendo Wii/3DS/Wii U Thread

My problem with NSMB2 isn't the game itself. It's the fact that it's out 3 months prior to NSMBU. Which looks to have a helluva lot more content in it. 2 pretty much does what people want. A traditional 2D Mario experience that isn't too much different to spoil it. But compare it with the one around the corner which does all that and has Yoshi in.

Comparing the differences from SMB1 to the Doki Doki Panic whatchamacallit to SMB3 to Super Mario World and to Yoshi's Island and so on, these games aren't really doing anything groundbreaking or risky at all. They're playing it extremely safe.

Sure, that doesn't make the game bad, per se.

The game does look pretty fun to play with in co-op or even alone, but that's not the issue. Objectively it's a good game, but it's also a pretty safe and banal game in terms of atmosphere and innovation. Nintendo's been playing it lazy and uninspired with these installments because they are fully aware that they don't even need to try that hard to sell these games.

A lot of complains also stem from the fact that lately Ninty's just been babying the players and removing so much challenge not just from the NSMB games but from most of their recent games in general. I'm sure that wouldn't happen for games such as Metroid or F-Zero but still.

Pretty much like Jontron and Egoraptor said, albeit less hyperbolic, Nintendo is becoming more and more like Hollywood. Aside from their nonsensical yet hilarious banter, they do bring up good points from time to time. I also concur with Jontron on SM64 aging badly. (SMS > SM64 imho)
Though I'm not defending Nintendo's recent title of being too much of the same, I don't think they're playing it too safe. I believe what they're doing is just appealing to the 2D Mario fans. Before NSMBDS, everyone would complain about how they miss Mario's roots of being a 2d platformer and not a port. And no, I'm not making up excuses that Nintendo still can't come up with creative ideas for 2D Mario but I can see where Nintendo is coming from with not trying to change TOO much. But I agree that NSMB2 is a bit too much of the same to me but not others.

That's why we get 3D Mario titles for them to try and get creative with things, though Galaxy 2 didn't change much and SM3DL was far too easy for its own sake. One thing I agree on is that Nintendo is getting far too settled with giving players a plethora of lives and making levels in general far too easy. As before, SM3DL is a great example of Nintendo just going far too causal as the game could be beaten in a day and maybe some change. They really need to vamp up the design with levels to be clever and challenging to players, similar to the special worlds in SM3DL.

I don't like encouraging laziness, Nintendo is better than that.
This is exactly what I want. I don't want them to have to change the formula up, I'm perfectly happy with new levels and power-ups with the same great gameplay as before.

I agree on the above about NSMBWii but not this one. I've found NSMB2 to be harder than the others and some of their level design is interesting. While you obviously have more lives in this one due to the coin thing everything becomes much harder.

You can tell that this one is a homage to SMB3 just like how the wii u one looks like a homage to SMBW

Ahhh... I see. I wasn't really talking about the levels in NSMB2, moreso SM3DL(I just really hate the fact that it's super easy mode). Though I like the look of NSMBU and I see their heading in the right direction with level design and such from what we seen. Rayman Legends and ZombiU looks far more interesting though, in my honest opinion.

What I personally wait for is the inevitable trailers or screens of the new 3D Mario and Zelda for the WiiU. I really hope they go for a more open world approach like Super Mario Sunshine but on a much larger scale(for Mario at least).

I'm kind of sad to see Nintendo Power go, but the magazine was already kind of dead to me after Future US took it over and half the pages became advertisements.

Does anyone here know when Amazon.com will be offering the Nintendo 3DS XL themselves?

(I mean as in I could buy it from them directly, not a third party seller in their marketplace etc)

Kind of shocked to see Nintendo Power go out of publication, but it was only a matter of time anyways, being a magazine.

Ya, I wasn't a big fan of Future US taking over, either. They hardly ever included the posters and their sweepstakes prizes weren't anywhere near as good as they use to be. Today if I still had a subscription, none of those changes would bother me anymore, but years ago it mattered to me (mainly posters, 'cause I had a totally rad wall of all of 'em).

Nintendo of America is holding a conference related to the WiiU on Sept 13th in New York City and apparently the invitation that were sent to media outlets say it will let learn "more about how the Wii U will change the future of gaming and entertainment." Reggie is going hosting it and the last time he did that, the 3DS launch date and price were and launch window games were available for reporters to play. Also, the 3DS conference was held in Jan 2011 and the 3DS ended up releasing two months later which supports even more that the WiiU is coming out Nov.

They also said the Wii was going to change the future of gaming and entertainment and look how that turned out. I suppose it made people a little more interested in motion controls but I still wouldn't use that phrase.

Well it seems like more people are interested in the secondary screen to remove HUDs and whatnot so maybe this could be a better time to use that phrase but who knows. The only reason motion controls I believe didn't take hold is because not even Nintendo themselves could properly use it until 5 years later. So most developers didn't know what the fuck they were doing, they developed on the PS3 and 360 or they just didn't use motion controls at all.

Kinda sad to see them go, but at the same time it's not all that unexpected and I have found myself less and less interested in the magazine over the years. For a while I was thinking about not renewing my subscription, but it looks like the choice has been taken out of my hands. So yeah, I'll definitely let my subscription run to the last issue.

Wii U specs. 1GBs of RAM will do wonders but I still think they should have put in more, it's relatively cheap nowadays. It's still twice what we have now though. It says DX10 features but doesn't mention anything about DX11, which is what should be being used as it's more efficient and offers more features. The CPU is apparently underpowered which is a little worrying, I think that's the opposite of the 360 and PS3 where the CPU is strongest.
