Siliconera is a good place to read about more obscure upcoming games.
I don't think they do reviews, though.

Syberia is currently free on GOG. Anyone interested at all in Adventure games should go claim it.

So ACTIVISION is standing up against microtransactions?

BLIZZARD activision, ya know, with card packs, loot boxes with voice clips, and the damn satisfying loot chest from Heroes of the storm.

Not counting the classic rouletes, WoW and Diablo, where they started to design the elements of the random adiction.

Love their content and all, and they aren't the worst offenders, but still, kettle.

Government regulation of lootboxes is officially coming.

Last week, Belgium's Gaming Commission announced that it had launched an investigation into whether the loot boxes available for purchase in games like Overwatch and Star Wars Battlefront 2 constitute a form of gambling. Today, VTM News reported that the ruling is in, and the answer is yes.

The Google translation is a little sloppy, as usual, but the message is clear enough. "The mixing of money and addiction is gambling," the Gaming Commission declared. Belgium's Minister of Justice Koen Geens also weighed in, saying, "Mixing gambling and gaming, especially at a young age, is dangerous for the mental health of the child."

Geens, according to the report, wants to ban in-game purchases outright (correction: if you don't know exactly what you're purchasing), and not just in Belgium: He said the process will take time, "because we have to go to Europe. We will certainly try to ban it."
Hawaii is also investigating EA for predatory practices:

If hearthstone and fire emblem heroes survive the transition to less gamble based economics, I'll be happy about it.

I don't know if this is a good thing in the long run but I'm enjoying these types of practices finally getting shat on. It probably won't amount to any thing though and business will go on as usual.

It's a good thing for consumers and the general public, but I'm sure higher-level producers will use it as a reason to justify pay cuts or lay-offs of lower level employees.

Alternatively, someone somewhere is already trying to figure out or lobby a workaround with other governments and in the meantime Belgium and Hawaii are screwed out of localization and game availability.
