Thread: General Video Game Discussion

But if Sony are genuinely in the wrong and continuing in that direction then how else protest against them as they have and would just ignore the people.

The fact that it has gotten to the stage that anon has to step in shows just how shitty Sony/bosses have become after such a huge success.

I personally support what Anon does as it is the only means available to deter this kind of behaviour.

Boycott. Letter campaigns. Unsubscribe. Tell your friends it sucks. Buy a nintendo.

"Hey, I can't hack my software anymore to play things it was never meant to! Waaaah!" holds no sympathy for me. Hackers going into security systems with malicious intent is NOT cool in any way shape or form.

As cool as it is to play Super Mario on a PSP, it wasn't supposed to.

Maybe, but I feel the only thing that seems to get their attention nowadays is loss of money.

This is again a little tricky as although it wasn't mean't to do half the stuff it can, as long as you own the console and can't harm/effect anyone in a negative way then it should be your choice as to how you use that system. I guess the best example of foul-play would be the online gaming, as it effects others.

Yeah I can understand both sides of the coin on this particular argument, but what about the one that started it all off a few weeks ago?

And thats unfortunately where the line has to be drawn. if you want to hack your own system at the cost of making it unusable for updates or online or whatnot, because you really want an emulator or some PC software on there, well... its really not supposed to do that, but your risking your own things and voiding your warranty blocking yourself from future features. Thats fine I guess (I don't get it personally...) there's a cost and a risk to it, whatever, but with the massive interconnection of things now... well, where do you draw the line on personal hacks, since a lot of them ARE malicious and ARE security concerns, as this situation is kind of proving?

Where is the line between having an N64 on your PSP and getting somebody's credit card numbers? ANd how do you determine that line and if its been crossed? A break in security is a break in security. And even if you say "well, this guy would never do the BAD stuff with his illegal hacking" doesn't mean THAT guy won't.

Yeah I can understand both sides of the coin on this particular argument, but what about the one that started it all off a few weeks ago?
I'm not entirely up to speed I guess, what specifically set this all off?

    This pretty much.

I think a line has to be drawn to stop both parties taking liberties that they aren't entitled to. The chances are this is the first steps towards that conclusion.

I think it all kicked off a while back when it was made apparent that Sony had the capability to literally shut down individual consoles. And although this hasn't actually been done yet their were arguments from the users saying it wasn't legal. This then branched off to the current war of 'hackers VS sony'.

At least from what I've read this year.

The funny thing is that although Anon have stated they have withdrawn the attacks as it is effecting the users unfairly, that there will likely be others who seek some form of retribution.

Okay guys, you are way behind. The large Anon quote was from weeks ago during which Sony was still publically suing GeoHotz, a hacker who jailbroke the PS3 due to Sony removing the OtherOS feature. Since that GeoHotz and Sony settled out of court, the lawsuit is over, Anon "hacked" Sony by launching mass DDoS attacks on their servers, which took out PSN. As a result Anon quit their attack as they wanted to attack Sony directly and not PSN, which was affecting the consumers.

Upon that announcement Anon staged protests outside Sony stores all over the country as opposed to "hacking". This had a very poor turnout, as to say, almost no one protested outside Sony stores all over the country. Anon has since been silent. Anon takes pride in publically advertising they're about to do something, so to do something as major as taking a billion dollar company's network offline worldwide would have been met with major dickstroking prior to the attack, or at least after. But no, Anon is still silent.

    Buuhan is correct.

From taking on the Westboro Baptist Church and the dark side of Scientology to... taking on Sony over Geohotz for hacking Sony consoles.

I mean, my opinion of Anonymous is only so high anyway? But really? Can you be so high-minded over this, Anon?

Seems one hell of a [petty] step down from the others, morally.

This game is probably the best rail shooter I have played.

Razing storm makes me want to puke.

The old games of this series were better.

I love Time Crisis. I always (or used to at least) play the games at the movie theatre.

I just got back from quite possibly the worst rape I've ever experienced on Age of Empires II.

    The set up:

Me and four other guys vs. three moderate bots (First mistake)
Map set to Tiny (Second mistake)
Civilizations set to random (Third mistake)

    Actual match:

Two guys drop out in first ten minutes
Me and remaining guys turtle the hell out of the bots
We gained a hope spot after we reclaimed a huge chunk of land from the bots and started colonizing the fuck out of it
Hope spot crushed when we forgot to complete our walls

    Final result:

    Us getting destroyed by onagers
Bots control half of the map (Seriously, it was just one large mass)
    All the trees were gone

So, all the Portal 2 hype finally got me to put in the Orange Box (the second PS3 game I ever bought, didn't even have my PS3 yet. I've yet to play it as I'm gonna play Half-Life 1 first) and play the original Portal. I more or less beat it in one sitting, with the only problem I ran into was figuring out how to get to the last of GLaDoS's personality spheres. It was very good, but due to that amount of the game that has leaked into popular culture I couldn't enjoy it as much as the people back in 2007/8 could.

But needless to say, I'll be picking up Portal 2 someday.

This was also the first FPS I really truly played. I think I'm going to also use the games default aiming sensitivity as a guideline for other games as I'm often all over the place with aiming in other games, but I was percise in Portal... or maybe it just feels that way cause I wasn't having to aim at moving targets.

I heard the PS3 version of the Orange Box was pretty terrible. Plus it's much easier to aim in FPS' with a mouse and keyboard.

Glad you enjoyed it though. Now on to Portal 2.

Hope you enjoy Half Life though. It's really good but HL and HL2/Episodes are pretty different from each other.

You are lucky because I only played the Ps1 version which had inferior graphics and pace. If there is an equivalent of street fighter 2 for rail shooters, its the first time crisis. The game encouraged to be extremely efficient (one shot one enemy). The music and atmosphere were amazing. Wild Dog has to be one of the coolest boss ever.

I almost beat Time Crisis 2 but my mom forced me to stop because someone else wanted to play B| .

I've always heard that, but beyond a vanilla Team Fortress 2 I'm not sure why exactly. There are frequent load times even tho the game installs, Portal would have a loading bar ever 2 test chambers, and the first 15 or so minutes of HL2 I played had a load time for every change in area. I'm not sure if that's just the PS3 port or if frequent load times are normal for all platforms.

Its a PS3 version thing. I have the 360 version and I don't get nearly as many load times as you mention.

Not surprising though since VALVE really had little to no involvement with the PS3 port.

Yeah well, oh well. My PC is old and I'm not getting a 360, so it's this version or nothing for me.

Started up my PS2 copy of Half-Life yesterday, I just got by the flame shooting giant monster and I'm riding the rail cart. Not sure how far I am in.
