Well Done, Egypt."A young policeman who moments earlier had been smashing protesters with a baton was forced to fall back, dropping his shield and helmet as he fled. Two protesters of the same age picked them up, ran towards him and handed them back. "We are not your enemy," they told the terrified conscript. "We are like you. Join us."
According to Al-Jazeera, there is very direct anger towards Mubarak himself from all classes of Egyptians - lower-classes, middle-classes, and the politicians.
The army is very revered and well-respected for the role it has played over time.
A lot of people were talking about whether the army would support the succession of Gamal (Mubarak's son) when Mubarak died. So now the army has to decide which side to be on.
Gamal ain't doing shit.
What's amazing is that there's no one leader of the protests, but every protestor is shouting the same unified chant - down with Mubarak. Apparently, that's what's posing such a big threat to Mubarak. According to ex-diplomat Yasser El-Shimy, Mubarak has never been faced with a single unified opposition before.
Re Gamal -- they tore down posters saying "yes Gamal! We support you!"
If there was some way for that one poor kid who first burned himself to death in Tunisia to see what his death meant to people and caused....the fall of that government he hated, and a torrent of dominos across his cultural region.....I wonder what he'd think.

Mubarak is fucked. His hands are tied.
Oh and a hearty thanks to whoever stickied this.
when I first logged on I didn't see the thread where I expected it to be, and thought it'd been deleted.
This picture has been making the rounds.
I also heard that one of the major museums was on fire and was put out. And that protestors were making a huge ring around it to avoid looting.
I mean this is Egypt we're talking about, they have probably the most famous artifacts and so forth in the world. Both a matter of important tourism dollars and national pride.
Imagine all the upheaval and change the pyramids have seen.
I figure its big enough and important enough its going to be at the top of the chart for the next few days anyway, and deserves to be noticed and paid attention to.Oh and a hearty thanks to whoever stickied this.
Its really really easy to go "I live in X country, how does this affect me?" But damn. This is so incredibly important and... I don't even know how to describe it. World politics aren't my thing usually, but... I can't think of anything in memory thats comparable.
