Let users be notified when they've been quoted, who quoted, and the link to said quoted post.

I think it could be pretty useful, not to mention it the fact could potentially speed up conversations within the forum.

    Just a thought.

PS: idk how the hell you'd do it, but I know it can be done somehow.

I'm sure some one has suggested this before, me thinks.

That would be awful, maybe you don't get quoted often but there would be tons of annoying notifications for conversations we're already closely following for the rest of us.

Agreed. No point in it. Just keep up with threads you keep up with. I always get annoyed when I open up my e-mail account to see messages about how I've gotten a reply to something I posted on some forum I signed up for a while ago.

You're awful. no no I'm kidding. but seriously. it's a good idea me thinks.

I don't care if I don't get quoted a lot I'm just saying it'd be helpful to some.

i actually had such a system in place before being asked to stop. Can re-continue it and make it open for everyone if moderators allow. and notifications can be controlled... you can visit a page to see list of posts who quoted you or you can get them via pm at end of everyday or some other ideas

Would it spam the already full PM even more?
Then it would be a curse..otherwise it`s not necessary but it sure could be used as an option for those who like it.

Kaze, if you're curious about if anyone's responded to something you said, just search your own name in the search bar for that specific thread.

Your posts -- plus the post of anyone else who has mentioned you or quoted you in that thread -- will appear.

Quotes already have links built into them, its that little square right next to the user's bolded name. You click on that it'll take you to the original source thread.

People don't go around rampantly quoting and sigging things *that* much, and most of the time they throw a comment into the same thread along the lines of "Oh, that's great, I have to sig that!" So if you keep following a thread you're posting in anyway, you usually find out anyhow.

I don't think you need anything beyond that, unless you're so egotistical you just have to know when someone's talking about you. Really, if that's the case, there's a search feature, where you can hunt for your own name.

Having this as an option might not be a bad idea. I mean, I can understand if this is hard to implement or puts additional load on the server... But otherwise, if its just linked to the users preference, giving the user the opportunity to decide should be reasonable.

I also understand there are possible ways (or almost ways) to accomplish the same without having this feature but the more convenient the better.

There's an existing mod for this that allows users to view who quoted them from their user control panel; notifications can be enabled or disabled by the user (individually) or an admin (globally). I've seen the use for this mod on other forums and I know people really like it, so I've been planning on implementing it when we migrate to vB4. As with most mods, support for earlier releases (vB 3.6.8, in our case) is scarce, so we'll just have to wait a while longer.

Nah, you have become more and more bitter as of late, Robby.
Sometime I just went to a thread I don't frequent, make a random comment, then the next day I completely forget about it, and only much later I figured out I missed the replies to my post and it has been a few pages too late to answer.
Or, the case like Naruto thread, GD thread or some popular threads. When I comment it at page 356, for example. When I come back it's already page 377. I just read the last page and missed the replies to my post.

That sounds pretty awesome, I'm constantly forgetting discussions I get myself into without noticing.

What if someone is quoted repeatedly (a quote tree) and the response isn't directed at him anymore?

Quoting a post that has a quote in it doesn't carry that original quote over into the next post.

Just check the thread you've been posting in, or if you've forgotten, just check your previously made posts.

Granted, I don't know if the latter of the two is working at the moment, but it's not hard.
