Surprised they're basing it off 3 instead of 2. But I guess it makes sense considering 3's tie to SH1 which the first film was based on, while SH2 was basically it's own story. There's also the fact 3 had a female lead, which they reworked the first film to have as they felt it added more suspense, which I agree with to an extent.
The picture we got of the films Heather looks good, actress looks well enough like her and they got the hair right. But I feel they made her too "normal" looking. Heather had imperfections such as freckles, darkness under her eyes, and general bad complexion. It really made her stand out from the crowd, but they didn't try and make the actresses in the first film look like beauty queens so I'm not worried.
I'm looking forward to this movie myself. I loved the first one. I hope Akira Yamaoka is still doing the music like he did with the first SH. Also I'm wondering if they will still have influences from SH2 like they did in the first movie. Though it would be rather pointless to have Pyramid Head in there again, but hoping to see zombie nurses again (they're in 2 AND 3, aren't they?)
I'm expecting the worst and hoping for the best, just like with Downpour.
I do like the look of Adelaide Clemens, though I think Buuhan1 has a point in that she seems perhaps a bit too pretty. Has anyone seen the stuff she's in and how she acts?
Basing it off the third game makes sense.
The actress clearly looks older than somebody's teenage daughter but it's not that big of a deal.
Those nurses coming at you in 3D.. :/
I hope Akira Yamaoka is still doing the music like he did with the first SH.
Akira left the Silent Hill brigade, so it's pretty unlikely.

Pyramid Head may or may not make it, but at least Valtiel can be in and it actually make sense.

Oh, and the nurses were in every Silent Hill except for Shattered Dimensions and I THINK SH4 (which there were a lot of things going on with 4).

Me too. But I'll enjoy it simply because I enjoy horror in general.

Reading her background, she's pretty unknown. Her most mainstream role was playing a cute blonde chick that Chris Bradley/Bolt flirted with in the movie Wolverine. I don't think she even had any lines.
Here's her on the Pacific.

I hate the fact that it's in 3D.....because I'm actually considering watching it in 3D.
I don't know. Maybe it'll be smart and make the 3D perform weird, fucked up mind tricks, or just give us cheap 3D tricks.
The nurses scene in the first film was the only part of the movie that made me jump. That was the only scene they were used in, and it was quite creepy, while Pyramind Head was used a bit much and was never creepy. Not saying he didn't have some good scenes in the film, just I found none that jarring. A guy ripping the skin off someone with his bare hand should be, but it wasn't (least not for me).
But that's what I liked about the movie, it wasn't scary, it just had great atmosphere and was a fun watch. I'm contemplating if I should buy it on Bluray, it's fairly cheap. Heck, at my local Walmart you can get it bundled with another bluray movie for $15. Course, that other movie happens to be Ultraviolet... yeeaaahhh...
No Akira saddens me so =( But they could still use the music from the games if they wanted to, it is Konami after all. I actually loved the fact that they used music from the second and third games mostly in the first movie.
And that Valtiel guy is creepy! I hope they have him in the movie. I never got to play through all of SH3, I want to though.

They most likely will use music from the original games, and I'm sure anyone with their head straight would be able to manage those classic songs. Akira being gone does suck, but that much more harms the games rather than the movies.

He most likely will if they DO play the story in theme with the original game.
It's just that he will never attack Heather.....at least, Valtiel NEVER DOES attack Heather. Valtiel kind of stalks her and in a very strange way...
Slight Spoilers
Spoiler:
Kills (and sometimes molests) any monsters that were in Heather's way.
So if the people behind this movie were smart, they'd use Valtiel, but use him as a disturbing figure that hides in the corner of the viewer's eye.

Well....for the most part, yes. It's just that IF they do, they'll keep it a secret as a plot point.
SH1 and SH3 Spoilers

Long answer:
Spoiler:
Heather of SH3 IS supposed to be Cheryl of SH1. Of course, nothing has confirmed that Sharon (of the first movie), but it's entirely possible that Sharon survived the ordeal of the first movie, and that Rose is trapped in the otherworld with Alessa (and not the combined souls of Alessa and Sharon).
It is possible that Heather = Sharon. At the same time, that would require Christopher (Sharon's father) to take the alias of "Harry Mason" (which would be INSANELY confusing, considering that Harry Mason is Heather's father's REAL NAME, but whatever).
The rest of the cast is pretty optional. Rose is entirely possible considering that Heather could easily find her with Alessa. I don't see why Dahlia, despite her lack of any existence in SH3, can't be included. I'd be very odd to though.
Other than that, Alessa is most likely to return.
Short Answer:
Spoiler:
Sharon might be Heather, using an alias name.
Chris might be Harry, using an alias name.
Rose is possible. (The actress loved doing the first movie, so I wouldn't be surprised if she returned. The woman SERIOUSLY loves to be in horror movies.)
Alessa, if Heather is indeed Sharon, is almost a guarantee.
Dahlia is unlikely, considering her complete lack of existence in SH3.
Pyramid Head might be there.
Everyone else is dead, which is a shame, because Laurie Holden's Cybil was fantastic.

Yeah I can see that happening especially if they want to tie it to the first movie, as opposed to making it another stand alone. To me it almost feels like the games are composed of their own stories, except for SH1 and SH3 of course. The rest don't seem to have any connection aside from the town itself.
I loved Cybil in the movie, she was pretty much what I imagined her to be. Though her death was unnecessarily gruesome >_<
Oh lord please, no more Pyramid Head. Sure it was cool seeing him in the first film, but he didn't belong there and he sure as hell has even less reason to appear in a movie based off of SH3... which has its own trademark monster, Valtiel.
I really like Insider's idea of using Valtiel as more of a disturbing stalker figure than a full-on IN YO FACE ISN'T THIS SCARY type of enemy. In the video you posted one can see the part where Heather walks in a corridor in the church and Valtiel crawls in the wall, going back and forth. He doesn't do anything in there and yet when I was playing that part I was scared to death of passing him, fearing he might suddenly lunge. Something like that would be an absolute joy to see.
Three characters from the original movie will be returning for the sequel. Not only that, the three characters' original actors will be reprising their roles.
Rose (Radha Mitchell), Christopher (Sean Bean), and DAHLIA (Deborah Kara Unger).
Also, this comment was made:
How the original movie's plot will weave into the sequel is still unknown, but Revelation cinematographer Maxime Alexandre says of the 3D movie that "Devotees will finally be able to enter this realm along side of Heather, Vincent, Harry and Rose and experience the psychological horror and the fear of the unknown with them."
I have a feeling that Heather isn't Christopher's daughter, but a new character entirely with a father named Harry. I think Heather and Rose's paths will cross, and the two may meet.
Either that, or Rose and Christopher will have a brief existence in the story.
Vincent and Valtiel are two things I'd be intrigued to see.
Claudia and Douglas would be a good bonus for me, actually.
One scene that I highly doubt will make it in but I can hope for a little is the Borley's Haunted Mansion segment. Not because it would be scary or anything, but I can see someone putting that in the movie almost like a small joke/reprieve from the grim atmosphere.
I'm actually looking forward to this a little more now.

Reason: And please please PLEASE let the 3-D actually IMPROVE the movie experience
Okay, few updates. First off, picture of Heather and......some guy (might be Vincent, but actor is a tad young).
Spoiler:
Okay, that aside. TWO ACTORS AND CHARACTERS HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED!
Claudia Wolfe will be played by Carrie-Anne Moss!
Not a bad. I have a feeling she could pull off the bat shit craziness of Claudia.
But that's not the best. The coolest news?
Malcolm McDowell will play Claudia's father! Granted, I think the character is unnecessary, but with this man, HELL I'll be somewhat disappointed if he isn't in at least ten minutes of the movie.
Looks much more like the theme park in the first Silent Hill (especially the popcorn stand). I don't see any haunted mansion nearby, but damn, does the place look creepy.
