Due to the nuclear reactor being out of commission, the Tokyo area is in a state of emergency: Energy deficiency.

They are going to implement a MASSIVE energy sanctions to the area.
In short, many hours of every day all through out the month of March and April will have a electricity downtime. Up to 7 hours a day, I believe.
The downtime schedule is shifted from area to area.

This is going to have some massive economical consequences, but alas, there's really no choice in the matter.
There simply aren't enough active generators to keep the entire Kantou region going.

........... and yes, imbecile NEETs bitching about their internet going down has already commenced. *sigh*

    Oh man.

So that means that from time to time, places like zoos and aquariums are going to be without any power, because that power will instead be diverted to the Kantou region, right?

The only artist I like out of the bunch is Lady Gaga but other than that it's good to hear that celebritys are not as stuck up as I thought of them to be

Has anyone been reading the Mangastream FB page? my god some of these kids are heartless, they care more about whether or not a series will come out than the well being of the people. It's like there going: well fuck them if they all die just as long as I get to read a chapter next week. People like that make me really mad cause if it was them and there family in that situation they'd want the whole world to stop for them.

Well there's going to be facilities and regions exempt from the energy down.
The main economic center of Tokyo won't have downtimes, and I'm sure neither will hospitals.

    Dunno about zoos and aquariums.

When it comes to people whining about wanting to see the next chapter of a series despite the disaster that's reaked havoc all over Japan, I try to ignore it. I look more to those who are trying to help the people caught in the disaster and those who are banding together for the cause and who are giving up time and energy for the unlucky who've been affected in Japan. I try not to dwadle on the little black smudges on society, and focus on the positive aspects.

Then again, I have been accused of being way too positive by my friends...

Sai-chan is right, we shouldn't dwell too much on whatever tasteless things people have to say in response to this disaster, it's not worth getting in a fit about.

Is Shueisha part of the economic center? However, I honestly don't think that regular manga should be publishing with what's going on. People need food, clothing, shelter and medical care first. Maybe some manga specifically aimed at comforting kids would be proper.

Many years ago - nearly 20 my family had accepted a Japanese Exchange Studant from Rotary. Her name is Yoko around 5 years ago we heard she was married and with child, unfortunately since then not much as she has lived her life and we ours - people just drift apart sometimes you know.

We have no idea if she is ok or how her family is :(

The footage rips you appart - seeing houses - cars and knowing there were people inside them and each ones had families the brain almost shuts down contimplating it.

On 9/11, one Parisian newspaper's headline was, "Today, we are all American."

Well, starting now, we are all Japanese. Solidarity, love, and support will see this through.

I know the disaster just happened--I have family and friends over there--I am directly connected to this thing, but saying companies should just stop producing "out of respect" isn't really realistic, nor is it respectful, actually, and an overall policy of that sort could lead to the entire economic collapse of the country. People need to work so their companies can pay them and they can get their lives back to normal.

Already, within the first 5 minutes of opening this morning, the Nikkei fell over 5% in reaction to this crisis. Of course lives are more important, but financial health is important to the future of the people and the country as a whole as well. Economic disaster on top of this devastation would not help anyone--those businesses are not being unrealistic or disrespectful to try to keep things going. Just saying. Let's not get carried away, lol.

And yeah, we are all Japanese at this moment. And I heard there is another Tsunami warning in effect right now as well.

ALERT: POSSIBLE BLAST AT DAIICHI NO. 3 REACTOR: REPORT

» ALERT: 3 METRE TSUNAMI TO REACH PACIFIC COAST IN MINUTES

20 minutes ago, there was another possible explosion at Fukushima #1 nuclear power plant, white smoke seen, and sounds of an explosion at number 3 reactor. It was a hydrogen explosion, which would've blown away the outer casing.

As for the Tsunami, there was a 6.5 magnitude quake/aftershock an hour ago, and they detected a sealevel change of 5 metres, with waves of 3 metres (9 feet) heading towards the shore. Possible Tsunami, not sure as of yet.

Edit: ok, no Tsunami, it was just a sealevel change, however there's live video of the explosion at reactor 3, it was the similar explosion that happened to reactor 1 earlier, when the hydrogen and oxygen ignited under the reactor, blowing away the outer walls, not sure on the radiation leak as of yet, however they're saying reactor containment vessel has not been breached and they're still pumping water to cool it.

The power plants are being dealt with and as of now there's, thankfully, little to be concerned about for the moment given wind patterns. In fact the biggest concern right now is when, and to what extent, the material that has already been released will reach the US.

It's NOT reason to start panic. The amount radiation released at its worst measured level was equivalent to 3 stomach x-rays.

So for the moment the biggest concern are the involuntary blackouts that began to be drawn up last night. Kiyomi Tsujimoto (of whom I'm not a big fan to begin with) is in charge of the plan and volunteer services and they decided it would be a good idea to ANNOUNCE the plan late last night and then announce the actual regions LATER that evening.

To give you an idea of the area affected by these blackouts, there are 42 million people living in the Kanto area. That's Gunma, Tochigi, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo & Kanagawa. That's an area just a bit larger than New Jersey. Of that area, majority of the people actually live in a region just over HALF of that size. That's where the blackouts will be occuring by block.

Every day many if not MOST of those 42 million commute by train.

Last night the blackouts were originally described as 'indiscriminate'. This meant hospitals, stoplights and television stations would be affected and have to run on on-site generators.

Now again, they announced this late last night, only confirming locations even later.

    Come on folks.

There was some saving grace in that the initial blackouts did not seem to occur as scheduled but I'm already getting reports from friends and family in Tokyo that area trains are not moving in designated blocks and people are unable to get to work.

    criznazy.
