    Default HElP WANTED

HI guys, sorry for being away for too long but i have been busy.
MY family are thinking of leaving Libya for a year or 2 until all this has calmed down, since my brothers and i have wasted the year (education wise). Now i am trying to find out how i can check in for an application to get into a university inside the U.K.

i have finished 1.5 years of medical school and have the certificate to prove it. I was meant to do my O, levels this year but then.............. and i never finished high school in the u.k.

I have contacted Glasgow university but they say i am a hard case and try not to get my hopes up. The internet here is a disaster it took around 30 mins to write this.

    thank you

Hey Bartholomew Kuma! good to hear from you I hope your family plans come to fruition now I dnt quite catch what you want can you clarify what you mean by this please:

Now i am trying to find out how i can check in for an application to get into a university inside the U.K.
Do you want to know how to apply into any UK university? As in the UCAS system and everything? Or are you trying to find out how/which university you can get into with your particular case? Catch you later!

Hey, while I can't advise anything about studies in the UK, given my non presence there, I'd just like to say I'm glad you're okay after all this mess.

Ah. Man I cn't answer this question I'm sorry.

You hvn't finished HS in the UK and have yet to do your O levels. Did you finish HS back home and more importantly did you do the equivalent of A levels? I would assume that if you have the equivalent of these plus 1.5 years of medical school it should be alright in terms of the qualifications you need to get into university here.

So despite Glasgow uni's warning I think you should carry on applying to several unis, especially if you have the grades. Just apply to any you want to go to because in the end it boils down to the university wanting to take you or not based on the grades. How old are you?17 or something right? As long as you have the A level equivalent+ libyan HS grades that show your level, you may have to start university from year one or foundation year again but I think you should be able to get in.

This is not very informed and helpful, I think you should post your case on this UK forum you are much more likely to get better answers: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/foru...er=desc&page=2

Im sorry again :( maybe someone else on the forum here knows more, Good luck!

I wish I knew anything about this, I'll see if I can get any of the British posters to come in here and help out.

Just don't think there's any shame in leaving your homeland like this.
My great-grandmother fled Ireland during all the chaos of the independence war and civil war that followed.
Her descendants are fine and well off in a new land, and also Ireland itself is now free and doing well.
Things will work out, just do what you need to do.

Have a vital read over this http://www.intstudy.com/visauk.htm

I think, generally what you'd be doing is :
    • Apply for a few University courses.

    • Attach a personal statement (this is just a general synopsis around 3/4 of a page basically building yourself up, generically taylored as to what courses you want to study, and why, describe your motication - cheese it up; (you could put in about your homecountry strife).

    • State your specific case of leaving your home country due to.

    • And if you get accepted to study at a University, apply for a Student Visa which will allow you to study in the UK. (Not sure whther you'd have to have this before applying, I am no expert, perhaps put it in your PS that you are so dedicated you are trying to apply for a Visa to study)

HOWEVER. Be prepared cus fees have risen to £9000 a year. I dunno whether its higher/lower in Libya.

Basically, England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland
(You have a fair selection of universities to pick from.)

Give Belfast Universities a try :

    University of Ulster*
    Queens

(These are the two main Northern Irish Universites)

*We had a talk from a University of Ulster representative, and she said, so few people are choosing Medical Courses that they (or someone else I forget who) would pay a large amount of your fees if you chose one.

First off I need to know what grades you have, secondly I need to know which subjects you are interested in and the areas you had in mind.

The reason I say this is that most studies have ways around the standard entry requirement to help people that can't go take the route of starting from scratch.

Anyway get back to me and I'll try and have it sussed in the next day or so.

He's a doctor and has certainly had more real intense field experience then probably any doctor on the whole British Isles, it would be a joke if they didn't accept him.

    He could.

Alot of things here are cheaper then in the UK/US.

But then you'd need to find a scanda free university.

Basicly a big scandal involving prominent figures having "finished" university after an impossibly short correspondence course.

America! The land of oppertunity (for a qualified doctor student).
Europe doesn't know what to do with immigrants, they're freakin' out.
Ah but here, in the Northeast particular....a land of immigrants... half my blood made journeys across the water from a perilous old country, hell we all have if you go back far enough (Black Africans aside..)...

    With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

That doesn't mean anything unless he's got some sort of qualification proving it. (English) Or at least a qualification recognised by us.

We have higher standards than many countries around the world and demand they meet our criteria in order to gain our education awards. As seen with a handful of other countries concerning hundreds of different qualifications.

Getting in to University through an interview would be a breeze for him as he could put forward his experience. Though I'm still unsure whether or not that option is available.

Personally if I were in his shoes I'd join one of the forces and take that route. The training is not only free but paid, the qualifications themselves are usually recognised worldwide, and the course itself would put him years ahead of anyone trying the Uni route.

    http://www.raf.mod.uk/careers/jobs/rafmedic.cfm
You are put on £17,500 after one years training, which includes all the food, accommodation and benefits attached.

    THAT'S $30,000 A YEAR!

Good luck man! I have been looking for a Special Education or Counseling MA course myself, mostly in the US but it costs so much that I will have to work first for a year or two to be able to pay it off and then go study.

Have you thought of applying at a Greek university? The department of Medicine in Alexandroupoli to be exact? That's the town I am currently studying at (finishing this year) and it's pretty nice I have to say as a town. Small enough for most students from all 4 Departments that are there, to know each other. I've heard that it's the best department of its kind in Greece as well. Buses are free for students and depending on your family's income, you might be able to stay and eat for free as well. Else the rents start from 200 euro to 400 euro depending on the size of the apartment. If you are paying for food it's about 2.20 euro at the University restaurant (breakfast is free and if you pay for lunch you can use that ticket to eat dinner too) and it's open every day, even on National celebrations. If you are interested for more details on how you can apply at this or any other Medicine department in Greece, I can come in touch with people who know to help answer your questions. =)
