My favorite part about this whole thing is the look on Ambrozy's face as soon as he's interrupted. It's not the expression of a man who is being unfairly represented in a biased interview. It's the face of a man who has just heard a really good joke. I think that says more than anything else.

It's obviously because the people that make movies are beautiful and the people that make games are nerds

I dare to say that MGS2 had one of the best stories I have ever seen.

Or maybe Fox and a lot of stupid people want to say to parents that if you did a bad job at raising kids, its not your fault.
I agree with you. I never said or thought that video games are not art. Just that in all forms of art, shitty pieces of art should be considered art, but art made of shit.

It's really not surprising someone would say that.
Video Games are still new to the art scene, every new medium goes through that fight for acceptance.
Fuck, movies had to go through the same bull shit back in the day.

I totally understand what you mean guys.

Isn't that schoking that "media" people with such power of influence are so irresponsible and lack wisdom ?

They don't even seem have any doubts in their statements. No pros or cons which is the most important principle for any reasonable people.

    THIS! Just...THIS!

Movies went through a lot of shit, as people felt it was nothing compared to the amazing power of live theater. The idea of a single performance being repeated over and over was just foolish. However, we can obviously see that movies can do things that live theater cannot, and vice versa. Granted, nothing will ever compare to watching Phantom of the Opera in Broadway in front row seat, and watching as the chandelier falls over your head. But at the same time, a theater could never reproduce the amazing visual beauty that some of our greatest movies have ever achieved. Both can co-exist, as both are powerful.

Same goes for video games. Personally, I don't think MGS3's scene of killing the Boss/the Joy would ever be the same in the movie. A movie? Sure, it'd be sad, maybe, in a movie. But being told that Snake has to kill her, and then being told to pull the trigger.... No movie or theater performance could EVER replicate that moment.

No. Not at all. In fact, this is an idealism that flows through many minds. Video games are just little things to do, and nothing that video games offer are really art quality. Add this to the fact that many games that are played nowadays are games like Farmville, and you see the issue. Don't get me wrong, I have full belief that Tetris is a form of art (and a genius one at that). But it's harder to perceive Tetris as a piece of art than Silent Hill 2.

Also, people are still blinded by the 'video game = violence' bandwagon. And again, this is FoxNews.

    @insider2000

Well for me, I think Snake crawling in the mircrowave was even more emotional. I don't think I have felt so close to a character in a general. A lot of player admitted that they were crying and screamed and felt bad for Old Snake.

I do think the Re series to Code Veronica was even more scary than horror movies because the players influence the event. The series is a love letter to the greatest horror movies and extends the experience.
I will always remember what happened the interrogation room in RE2. Unfortunately, people were too damn stubborn to understand this. The lack of control, the shitty cameras were part of the reasons why this series was scary. People are so narrow minded, they don't try to thnk or even interpret.

I remember being one of the few people who knew how to "defeat" the sorrow in MGS 3 in my first try.

You know, I can't help but wonder how Fox News would react to some of Duchamp's works given their narrow view of the art world. Would they look kindly upon his "Fountain" piece, which is essentially a found urinal with a random name scrolled on the side, or would they lambaste it for not fitting in with most traditional preconceptions of the media form? Even though said urinal is considered on of the most important artistic contributions in the 20th century. And, if they do consider "Fountain" to be art - as it is now considered to be - how can they justify calling a piece of work that someone sculpted into a game any different? There's a reason why most video games have a section for artistic design within the credits.

I wonder if it would give the creators of Fox News a catastrophic apoplexy to actually support a fair and unbiased talk about the matter. Hm, maybe we should test this. For science.

Actually I remember discussing in one of my art classes that the make of the urinal used for Fountain wasn't in use during that time period, so it's possible he actually sculpted it

makes it a little more complex lol

I'm not seeing the outrage here. News network makes a provocative lead-in to a debate over a subject that doesn't mean jack shit on a slow news day. Holy shit where's my heart medicine.

Also not seeing where Fox News itself took any stand on this. Just feels like reactionary butthurt from gamers, to be honest. How dare anyone question the artistic merit of video games blah blah blah got bored with this when Ebert was prattling on about this crap.

All that said, Fox News' morning show is pretty damn dopey.

    2 more for the pile.

Why isn't Fox News on Comedy Central? You could put them before The Colbert Report.
