    Chick flicks =/= Romantic comedies.

For example, the list I posted above has quite a few movies that certainly are not typical chick flicks. People pigeonhole the idea of Romantic Comedies too much, it's crazy. However, yes, chickflicks are usually romantic comedies ~~ but it's not necessarily true the other way around.

Chick Flicks is a pejorative term to refer to any movie that is holed into heteronormative gender roles and usually involves really inane ways of trying to appeal to what media thinks women like

And it kind of works, as sad as it really is. People sux

But chick flicks are not romantic comedies. Basically most of them heavily involve romance due to the previously mentioned lines of thought, but Romantic Comedies is a very broad spectrum. I.e. chick flicks are probably romantic comedies, but romantic comedies can be aimed at, or targeted to anybody.

if it has romance in it though, it's aimed at women. if it's aimed at women, to me that's a chick flick. either way, it all doesn't appeal to me, so for me chick flick=boring. I'm sorry. I'm probably wrong, this is just how i feel.

That's a really weird train of thought.

Does that mean Gone with the Wind, Citizen Kane, Casablanca and Raiders of the Lost Arc are chick flicks? Every Disney film ever and a whole bunch of Miyazaki films are chick flicks?

Love and romance is a universal theme, the purest and basest and most fun of emotions, understood by children and embraced by adults, the sheer act of having ROMANCE in a story doesn't instantly change the entire intent and genre of a story.

When romance and feelings are the *only* thing a movie is about, and there's a female lead carrying it, then it goes into chick flick territory... and not even always then.

those don't FOCUS on the romance though. (ok, well maybe the disney ones, but the audience isn't women it;s children) citizen kane had romance? i't been a while since i seen it, but I don't even remember that part. Indiana Jones is about an action adventure. princess mononoke was about the balance of society with nature and people's part in it.

sorry, i guess that was bad wording. I guess I should say I don't like any stories that focus on romance. I need something else that interests me.

So you do understand that "if it has romance in it though, it's aimed at women." is a really weird insanely broad statement to make.

And yes, Citizen Kane had romance and affairs and marriages in it, its what led to Kane's downfall.

i guess i thought when others were saying "it has romance in it" that they meant it as the main focus.

as for this movie, i wonder how much focus will be on the romance.

Oh, so Shakespeare is actually chicklit!

I think most romantic comedies are aimed at women anyway. They present beautiful, fairy-tale like love stories with a likeable female main protagonist, a highly improbable male love interest and jokes that consist of awkward situations (often involving clothing or appearance) and other uninspired pettiness. At least that's what I think of when someone says "romantic comedy".
When you talk about romantic movies, that are actually tragic or dramatic, that is a whole different thing.
And I like romantic comedies that do not fit above description. 500 Days of Summer is a very fine example and a very enjoyable movie I think for men too.

    Well from what I've heard
    Spoiler:
almost none at all. It's a Muppet movie after all. That trailer was just a tease joke trailer. The actual plot of the movie has been summarized like this. Warning, actual spoilers here.
    Spoiler:
On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world's biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, US, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets' former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10-million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit the Frog reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With secret, signature, celebrity cameos, "The Muppets" hits the big screen November 23, 2011.

The film will feature four new musical numbers, plus several classic Muppet songs; such as "The Rainbow Connection" and "Mah Nà Mah Nà."

    Sounds very Blues Brothers.

Another trailer for the movie. It really looks great.

    Spoiler:
yeah, not much hiding what it is this time. OH WELL. Still looks great.

Better than the actual Green Lantern trailers. It looks like they've totally nailed the spirit of the franchise. LOVE the tag line at the end. Oh, and also, this picture. LOL.
    Hidden:

There was also a Hangover 2 parody trailer, apparently, which I'm a bit more meh on.
    Hidden:
    .

And I'm still a romantic sap.
