Ending Thoughts!

It's hard to believe it I know, but Oda can't throw her away like that.

When he finds All Blue he will move his hair from his left eye and look at this wonderfull sea.

Anyway, when it ends I hope it ends because Oda wants to and when Oda wants to. I don't want to see it canned prematurely (Shaman King) or for it to be drawn out in a DBZ-ish manner.

However, I think it'd be cool if Oda did some stand alone volumes of what the other characters are doing during the story/after the conclusion of the story (kind of like Araki?).

I really see Zoro in particular as having a very tragic post-dream existence.

Sanji can delve through the All Blue cookbook for years.

Nami can return to her family and rebuild what was once Arlong's empire.

Luffy may wish to use his position as Pirate King to motivate the world (perhaps teaming with Dragon)

Chopper's signed on for a lifetime goal.

Usopp will never reach his. He'll always be a coward, and even being Sogeking is just a different flavour of being a coward.

Zoro, OTOH, has no new challenges to meet once he becomes the best. It will eat him from the inside out. I see him a suicide within five years.

Zoro will probably keep living like he has been now, and waiting for someone to challenge him to the throne of strongest swordsman. Kinda like Mihawk is now, only sleeping 90% of the time and getting horribly lost occasionally.

Yeah, but as Mihawk shows, it's a sucky existence. Some poor bloke comes and disturbs your nap, and you have to cleave up fifty ships... perhaps because when he wakes up he has to deal with the hollowness of living what is now a "defensive" life.

He's no longer defined in terms of what he can do, it's in terms of what he can't. He can't lose to anyone. Ever.

I dunno, being number one has its perks too all in itself. I don't think Bill Gates particularly minds that he's the richest man in the world and that it can only go downhill from there on. (actually it already has gone downhill.. the ikea guy passed him by, but Gates did donate away over half of his fortune)

I like the thought of Tashigi beating Mihawk, something like that could actually happen. That would still mean that Zoro has to beat "Kuina" to prove that he's the best. But who knows...
Personally, I'd like to see Zoro and Robin end up together. Then they'll travel the seas together, Robin'll do her archeological research and Zoro'll protect her and beat anyone who'd dare challenge him for the title of the best.

Actually, I don't really think Zoro with be romantically involved with someone, nevermind Robin O.O (despite my Vivi-Zoro anime-induced utopic obsession XD)
I must admit, I have never really thought seriously on the ending of OP coz I don't want that to arrive anytime soon... :)

I threw my hat into the ring a long time ago: Luffy will find One Piece and years later, sit on a biiig throne as a judge of the world dance tournament. Some characters from the series will drop by for comical bits and dance and all that. The last match will be Smoker against Sanji. As it begins, a young kid (or animal) rips Luffy's straw hat off his head, and he goes off to chase it. Smoker then does a DF powered break dance, and shows his back in the last panel. Instead of the justice kanji, it'll say "Goodbye!"

Maybe Oda is going to add some romance into one piece in the future. He has to somehow keep things interesting for many arcs to come, and prevent it from just becoming repetitive. I think that's why in water 7 we got all these inter-nakama conflicts and that exceptionally dark mood for a while, which really was a first in One Piece history. (we had a bit already with Nami in the Arlong Arc, but that was peanuts compared to the intensity in Water 7) So maybe.. just at the moment all of us are starting to feel "hm isn't this new arc a bit like the previous ones" he'll hit us with some romance and have a whole new stir in fandom at his hands =)

I dunno about romance, but if he does anything unexpected, I hope he has Zoro die after (or during) the fight with Mihawk.

With all this talk of romance in OP and Mihawk and Zoro....

Zoro defeats Mihawk in a duel.
Zoro kneels next to him as he lays there bleeding to death.
Mihawk explains that the moment he met Zoro, he had feelings for him.
Zoro admits to this as well, he trained hard and pursued Mihawk because of his overwhelming love for him.
Zoro tells Mihawk that he thought that defeating Mihawk in a duel would prove his worth to him.
As Mihawk chokes on his blood, he tells Zoro that he is sorry that they had to reveal their feelings under these circumstances.
Zoro panics and grabs Mihawk. As he sees tears form in Mihawk's eyes, he screams "No!
Mihawk utters "Goodbye.. My love.." And then, his eyes close.
Zoro pulls Mihawk's body close to him and with his face stained with tears, he looks up into the sky and screams "NOOOOOOOOO!!!!"
