Really, since they're just going to do flashbacks for the next few weeks, then they're probably going to draw this scene out, and maybe show it from different perspectives. They'll probably show Franky's burning of the plans later, along with the "defeat" of Baskerville.
Eventually all Shonen will get the Dragonball Kai treatment. I'm currently awaiting the perfection that will be One Piece with no filler whatsoever.

I'm also awaiting Bleach Kai. It will be the greatest joke in anime when it's ends in under 50 episodes. It'll be a great laugh.

yeah, Greg is right, leave them alone, they know what they are doing.
You don't want them to catch up to the manga do you? it'll end up Like Naruto and Bleach!!! or worse, like Rurouni Kenshin!!!

Honestly, i don't mind the recap episodes, i'm just confused, b/c i honestly thought that Franky burning the plans for Pluton was a critical plot point.

OP ratings remains pretty strong, as you can see in earlier posts on this very thread. In fact, i would have a very hard time to understand if OP were even slightly in risk, since it's usually top 3 rated (#1 last week). Take a look at, say, Bleach: it's surviving without showing up in the weekly top 10 for a loooong time.
In other hand, thanks to the messed up new schedule, the ratings will much likely suffer a bit. I guess One Piece would be in better hands in some anime-friendier tv station.

    *cough* Gate of Justice *cough*

    ...

But yeah, Toei's probably got a reason for not including the scene, like maybe a filler pursuit of the plans after Enies Lobby finishes.

All this talk about filler "coming", look around, we're knee-deep in it.

Just check the intro, much of it is based specifically in EL during the battles. I can't think of an intro that spent that much screen time in one arc.

We're gonna be in EL for a while in the animation.

We could well be in for another DBF.

By the way what about the Gate of Justice?

Did they change a scene with it? It doesn't matter if they changed or altered a scene, they do that all the time. And as far as minor mistakes such as leaving it out for a few panels, that's pretty common too. Just look at Oda's list of misses.

But entirely leaving out an important scene such as that was done on purpose. It's no reason to get all huffy and puffy.

I guess One Piece would be in better hands in some anime-friendier tv station.
Dude, Fuji TV is like animation central. Just walk through the tour in there and you'll see all the characters from past and present. NHK might have an edge on them purely because of educational cartoons but when I think family fun cartoons I think Fuji.

From what I've seen, they've forgotten to animate the gate of justice in. So I think thats what he ment.

Does that mean they won't have it at another time?

People, it's not the first time they've altered the story.

Funny, then why do I see so many anime on the stations associated with TV-Tokyo? And don't forget NTV, Asahi and the cable channels.

Hmm, am I the only one that consider this "episode 279" not be the real episode 279?
They have just showed a couple of scenes - without the Franky/Spandam/the burning Pluton blueprints, etc scenes - as a sort of preview. The recaps and the cute Chopper Man scenes have the only purpose to buy time.
I'm sure that the real and complete episode 279 will be aired after the recap eps.

I know this has been said time and time again but, the One Piece anime is in quite a jam. We are looking at a cancellation, a loooooong break, or a sh**load of fillers. I'm hoping for the best but I expect the worst. Man I hope Toei comes up with something else ASAP.

I'm just hoping the put someting in that makes these recap/flashback episdoes more interesting. Chopperman help with this one, but what about the others? Are they really going to do 2 more episodes with the SHs jumping down the fall then flashbacks, or are they going to add something at the end like today?

Maybe more Chopperman based stuff? I'd like to say they're animate the other log stories, but if we heard about Chopperman in advance then why not those?

Guys relax, they are filling up time by showing what is going on in each of the SH minds during the fall. It is an old saying that "your life flashes before your eyes" in a kind of life or death situation.
Considering they don't see anything but a half opened bridge under them (at the moment) it is a normal reaction.
They will repeat this scene and show each of the SH past one by one, filling in the scene little by little. When your adrenaline is pumping, your mind blanks out, and you often miss what is going on. In this way, by putting together what each of the SH is seeing, we get the full scene.

Franky is falling at the same time as Luffy, because he has to fall at the same time in order for what happens next to work. Once the flashbacks are over, they will show the scene where he burns the blue prints.
It is possible the anime doesn't want Luffy to have been able to hear/see what Franky does with the Blueprints, after all he is not near the edge, and based on Luffy's field on vision he shouldn't be able to notice what is going on.

So please wait until the flashbacks are over before you start whining about "this isn't true to the manga" etc.

Sure, but we don't see too many new animes starting on Fuji these days..Tv Tokyo, for instance, still have a lot of series running on prime time, in spite of some non-stellar ratings.
I know Fuji had Dragonball, Kenshin, Yuyu Hakusho, too many blockbusters, it's really a rich history, but their anime schedule seems to get thinner each year. I don't know, maybe it's just me.

In other news, the preview for 280 shows a little bit of new footage:

I haven't forgotten cable channels or the others but I'm thinking about something way more important than just what's on the plate.

There's a huge diff. between showing popular animation and the animation that runs at 2AM and is watched by the same crowd of losers that cheer on the likes of 'Nevada tan'. Take a look at the weekly rankings and besides Conan, most of the top 5 are Fuji's properties.

Furthermore the most important factor I considered was exposure. I can think of very few places in Japan that don't have a Fuji affiliate (actually I can't think of any) but finding a Asahi and esp. TV Tokyo affiliate can be hell.

I know this has been said time and time again but, the One Piece anime is in quite a jam. We are looking at a cancellation, a loooooong break, or a sh**load of fillers. I'm hoping for the best but I expect the worst. Man I hope Toei comes up with something else ASAP.
    Holy shit.

    Stop this insanity now please.

OP is not in immediate danger of being cancelled.

    Long breaks are normal.

    Fillers are normal.

    Honestly.

You're looking at what? A few weeks of filler? That's LITERALLY nothing. And considering EL just wrapped up the animation has leeway for filler after that ends.

    JUST LAST NIGHT

I was watching the one Japanese show left that I like that I can actually watch weekly in Fukui and on the 5-Character Quiz section they asked:

"What is the name of this popular animation?"

While the new opening of OP ran in the background.

The guests all talked about how popular it is and how well it sells (they were mostly Fuji TV Announcers). They also got the answer correct.

OP is not in immediate danger of being cancelled. The sky is not falling. Relax.

Indeed. As long as the manga itself is popular, the anime should prosper barring that they take the anime in a different direction.

Thanks for your efforts, Greg, but I fear the paranoia of fanboys is a force to be reckoned with.

Oh noez, one of the most popular animes on TV moved times and is stalling for time for the manga, it's over! It's coming to an end!

So you say, but what about the unfortunate fate of Bobobo-bobobobo?
