My sister had to write an essay once on how a character could be under/poorly developed. Her example was Ichigo.

She brought in a Ken doll with red hair as an example of his bleak and barely functioning personality.

Bleach has done some realy groundbreaking work in the field of sexism, so I think it realy must be. It is the leitmotiff of the series after all.

In all fairness this isn't something that's just plaguing bleach but rather almost every other shonen series. (although I think it just got a tad bit better recently)
I just recently reread eyeshield and noticed how stupidly females are used(not referring to main characters but more to background ones).

At what she's done in the past years. In how her implied role in taking down Aizen was completely forgotten. And how she insisted she was training not to be a bother.

And then she gets brainwashed immediately, to the point that she not only doesn't question all the incosistencies and contradictions that Tsukishima's "past" creates, but doesn't even bat an eyelid when Tsukishima flat out STATES that he changed her past right in fucking front of her. While beseaching Ichigo to "stop and apologise" while Tsukishima furiously attacks him, with no shown intention of not causing serious injury/death.

What do you call that, honestly ?

I think you misunderstood me (admittingly the part where I said it got better was misleadingly placed after my main statement. This one was rather referring to more recent Jump series where females aren't extremely shoehorned into some stereotypes or idiotic roles).
I never intended to make it sound like I'd defend bleach in that regard (and for that matter in any regard), I was just commenting on how this is a universal problem with all shonen series(well I'm mostly referring to jump series).

Well ok that's valid, but I personally don't think using nameless female characters fawning over some dumb antagonist character to idolize him(eyeshield) or having them be just the damsel in distress (reborn) or having them just for fan service (naruto) or using them to illustrate some dumb male fantasy by having them taking on some weird stereotypical role(pretty much every romance series) is any better.
For me it's all on the same level of awefullness.

You got me there. I rarely remember contains of last Naruto chapter, much more such little things as hosts. It just got stuck into my mind when Hidan and Kakuzu (why I remember their names is another question) find three tails and beat it. Then, while it's being sucked into the statue, they comment how a beast without host is really retarded. Never read about it's host.

You know, I really hate how Sasuke is such a bland character but still so damn appealing to the vast majority of Narutards.
And now Kishi has ONE FUCKING PAGE with him, probably just to up the sales or something - with basically NO RELEVANCE at all! I mean, wow, he joins the battlefield - WHERE? WHY? FROM WHERE? WHO'S HE FIGHTING? You can't just give something retarded as that and then have the whole rest of the chapter focus on something entirely different, it's all kinds of wrong -_-

The stupid thing about Sasuke is how he is basically irrelivent to the story.

The whole world is out worrying about tobi and the tailed beasts and akatsuki an the moon plan and such and such. meanwhile there is sasuke who just kind of shows up once in a while and fights someone for no reason other than personal.

I mean you could remove sasuke entirely from this manga and it wouldn't change at all.
