I knocked it off as debris or dust but it pissed me off nonetheless all of Impel Down and the Marineford arc. But now, really!? Inside a building? Have these old men not bathed enough that enough dirt is coming off of them to fly around in the background? Why do these five old men carry with them the same amount of dirt that is flying around in the background of a war ground full of dirty pirates and Marines?
Uh, those "debris" are there to give a dramatic effect, i guess. It's been used since Water 7 at least, possibly Skypiea or even earlier, i don't remember. It's a trademark of the series at this point, so it's a bit late to complain about that.
In fact, if you pay close attention, you'll notice that Oda does use it in the manga too. So blame him if you will..

Uhh, I've seen that same thing in the manga too though. Maybe Toei overuses it or whatever, I have no idea, but it is something also in the source material.

Wow, I wasn't expecting this much stuff crammed into this episode at all. I started it up thinking "let's see how they stretch this marineford scene over an entire episode."

Pretty cool episode I have to say. They held true to the canon material quite well. I was getting scared that the crucifixion scene was cut, but they came back and covered it nicely. The Marineford scene wasn't stretched out too long, and it expanded on the material quite nicely. All the canon stuff was well represented, too. I'm quite pleasantly surprised with this.

I'm also surprised that the crew is already back in the next episode. It looks like it will be partial filler and partial canon.

It seems like someone always has to complain about the anime. This is yet another reason why people on this forum piss me off sometimes.
Dude, it was a one paragraph complaint following two paragraphs of praise (or maybe 1.5 and 1.5). Relax. So someone has something they'd like to see done a little better/differently. It's not a big deal. People complain about the manga too.

And he's not saying they had to go all out. He's saying he didn't think a certain effect fit properly with certain scenes. It's not something to get hung up over, but it's not something to get upset at someone for pointing out, either.

    Excellent episode.
Could not believe how much they crammed in, all done with excellent art and animation.
The music was perfectly used as well, I cant remember the last time I didn't have the OST blaring in the background and we only had the noise of the background or just silence being used. Take that scene where Aokiji talks to Smoker, you didn't hear anything except them talk and the guys working outside.

The only thing I'm concerned about is how close they've gotten to the New World arc, whats going to happen between now and October? Hopefully not filler training, because that would be terrible , its something that OP has consistently avoided over the years and Id like it to remain that way

But you know what, him doing key animation in this episode means he won't do much key animation for his next episode soon.

I've seen it the manga, but I guess I'm angry just because by Marineford, it seemed like it was being used EVERY EPISODE, and the way it was used. It was used for dramatic effect, but it was in those padded out conversations or self narratives that lasted much longer then they should have.

Seriously. If I had not read the manga, I would not have known who that was talking to Sengoku. It's still an excellent epicsode.

Yeah, the anime seems to find introduction boxes to be very rude and all around preferable to avoid.

I have been avoiding watching the animation of One Piece for a while because of how they messed up the story with filler. This episode however made up for it.

    Brilliant episode.

The raid/trip to Marineford was made so much more epic here than in the manga - I would have still gone a lot further though and made the whole episode completely devoted to it. The scene where the ship comes in the foreground and the marines are all stunned that Luffy, Jimbe & Ralyeigh are all on board was just godly ..... made even better by overlaying the track "Overtaken" on it. I got to admit that I gave out a little squeak when that happened. No homo.

BTW is it just me or does Kidd have a new VA? His voice sounded a bit off.

Don't misunderstand, I'm all for complaining when its actually something that needs to be complained about. But dust particles flying around in the background is not one of those things.

Good to know I messed up Kong's colours. I still think blue suits him better but oh well, I'll get used to it quickly.
Aokiji was pretty great in this episode. I don't know, I liked him.
Filler was, well, as expected. Not bad.
    Hahaha, how cute~

Freakin epic episode! Every thing about it, animation and music and the timing wow. My favorite parts, had to be the Supernovas finding out, Kidds part really sent chills down my spine, you can just tell he is going to make an exellent rival for Luffy in the New World. Than of course Smoker, man I can't wait when Luffy runs into him again. Over all amazing...I've already watched it twice now bahaha!!

Next weeks looks pretty good too..

    Spoiler:
I can already hear people complain about the Amzon Lilly parts now, only things wrong here I could see about the episode. Looking forward to the crews reaction towards this stuff, animation looks the same as this episode which is good. Buggy/Crocodile are back, can't wait to see those parts in the anime. Man, the arc in the manga is starting to get good but this episode had me wishing we'd be in the New World alreadyXD
    Luffy fan.
LuffyxHancock or LuffyxNami? I can't decide.

I thought the whole episode was going to Marineford implied filler, but boy, was I wrong.

Not only did we get the Gorosei scene, but Coby's scene, Kong and Sengoku's conversation, Smoker and Aokiji's scene, and most of the Supernovas appearances.
It was a treat seeing Kid, Urouge, and Hawkins again.
The implied Marineford filler was really excellent. I liked how the marines were still scared of Luffy, and he was just walking past them like a pimp.

Did anyone else chuckle when Aokiji said "Don't mind it"?
This is why I LOVE One Piece. You can't call these guys the bad guys. Aokiji and Smoker and Garp and Sengoku all have good intentions.

Honestly this is what makes this manga one of the best. ESPECIALLY the Crucifixion scene. How this can be referred to as a children manga after that scene is beyond me.

This episode made me realize how stupid anyone is to criticize the fishman island arc. Oda knows what hes doing

Probably people that make a business of selling Umbrella's to passing ships in order to survive the rain of of lightning....

Excellent episode today. I'm glad they kept the crucifixtion scene in mostly. That Kidd is a ruthless bastard.

I guess its also a testament to how rough the New World is that the 1st part of the Grand line is considered to be a Paradise in comparison. It speaks alot about how tough the pirates from the NW really are..

I can't wait till we finally get there.

There are so may things I loved about this episode: the music choices, the filler action with Luffy, Jinbe and Rayleigh, the scene with the admirals destroying the pirates (Akainu looked especially good, like in episode 486, which was anoither work of Ishizuka), how well the Gorousei were drawn, seeing Kidd and Urouge again (my favourite Supernovas)...

The final scene with Kidd was also a very cool spot to finish the episode, I'm glad it wasn't cut or anything like that. The only thing I didn't like was the lack of an introduction box for Kong especially since he's kind of important and we probably won't be seeing him again anytime soon either. Anyways, IMO this was one of the best episodes this year and the preview for the next one looks terrific as well.
