Really, that's been confirmed? Welp, looks like I'll either somehow get it from Europe or won't at all.

Not confirmed, but certainly seems to be the case, and lines up with what happened with Orochi 3.

Yes, that was PSN release only in America. As was fighting game Battle Fantasia which was released on PS3 a year after it came out on 360 in America because of it too.

The US playstation blog had this to say:

Arriving in November 2012 as a simultaneous digital and Blu-ray release, PS3-exclusive One Piece: Pirate Warriors takes the insanely popular manga/anime series to new heights in this stylized brawler. Players take control of One Piece protagonist Monkey D. Luffy, with his stretchy, rubber-like limbs, to do battle against a number of series villains with his Straw Hats pirate crew. The game offers both story and battle modes, among others, and the ability to fight dozens of on-screen enemies simultaneously (a la Dynasty Warriors).

So why wont they just give us a straight answer?

That is a straight answer, unless the Sony rep responsible for updating the blog got mixed information (unlikely due to it being the official blog, yet possible) we are getting a bluray release in America.

So what, the official Namco and Funimation press release of the news both tagging it as a digital only release don't count?

There's conflicting info, pure and simple.

Sony are operating on a different planet to everyone else. Wouldn't take anything they say as confirmation for anythingt

This is the e-mail I got.

Thank you for contacting Namco Bandai's Customer Support Department.
The Northern American release of One Piece: Pirate Warriors will be exclusively available as a digital title from the Playstation Network for the Playstation 3 system. We have no available information regarding a separate retail release for this title. The confusion must've come from the fact that both the European release, which is retail, and the North American release, which is digital, were announced at the same time.

It's too bad that despite the fan outcry it's probably too late for Namco Bandai to change their plans, or rather, it's too bad that they wouldn't change their plans regardless.

Guys, I really wouldn't count a dub yet. While chances are high of it not having one, look at the facts. The game was literally JUST announced a week ago, I think I remember back when DBZ Ultimate Tenkaichi was announced, Sean Schemmel didn't start dubbing it till June or July. Second, most Japanese game trailers usually use Japanese audio for the first few trailers(EX: Naruto or Kingdom Heart games.) Just pointing out the facts here.

    I agree.

Perhaps they will dub it. I mean if US and Europe have to wait until later this year that means they must be doing something that will take more time and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't take that long to sub.

Considering where Funimation is on One Piece (just after Skypiea arc) they would have to find VA's to be every new character after the most current episode. And considering they have the rights for Water 7 arc they already probably started or have VA's set up already.

Because Koei is basically a small company and they have about a dozen titles on the schedule ahead of it.

Wouldn't Namco Bandai be the one in-charge of dubbing though? Namco Bandai has full publishing rights, they just collaborated with Tecmo Koei on the game development.

...and Koei wouldn't want it screwing with their release schedule and going against their own products. Same for Namco. Just because it was a collaboration (and hugely successful in Japan) doesn't mean you can then go "All right, partnership is done, time to screw you over and year in advance scheduling and soliciting".

Plus, advertising and hyping and running magazine ads costs money too. There's limited advertising budget and concerns of that sort. The average americna audience doesn't even know about the game yet, the hype hasn't even started being built yet. Just because a ONE PIECE FAN SITE has known about the game since last August, doesn't mean a casual Shonen Jump reader does.

Why must they confuse us so on whether it will also be retail release or digital only!?!? :P lol

Releasing it in November is interesting IMO as well; If they're supposedly not dubbing the game, why not release it sooner once the localization is finished!?

Something tells me that MAYBE Funimation is dubbing the game; That's just my thought, so here's hoping. Even if it's not, I'm still getting this!

Considering the game was released March 1st in Japan I don't think it's late in the year when you get the game November 2012.
That are just 8 months and as Robby said, Koei has other games needed to released before.

Besides I think this game has a lot of text so a proper translation will need a while. You must think about it that way: the translators aren't (probably) OP Fans so it's not that easy with all the names like for our spoiler translators. They have to check with the anime/manga I guess and in the European release it's not just an English translation.

edit: Finally got the last coin and with that one of the two left trophies to platinum that game! It's a shame that you can't see how many kills you already have, I'd like to know how many I need to beat to get the last trophy ^^
