Thread: Hiatus x Hiatus

If this series doesn't go on a year long hiatus again this January, I'll think about actually starting it. If it does go on hiatus then I'll wait until its finished. While on the subject of HxH ending, do you see an end in sight?

He's not stronger than all of them. He just sees all of them as toys he'd have fun fighting against. Gin is in that box as well. He still has his eye on that one hunter that was the first judge during the Hunter exam.

    I sure don't.

There's Gyro for one, unless he's going to take part in this arc, he'll probably get his own arc as the villain.

You know, the crazy lengths being gone to to try and save Gon, after he got a brief out of the blue powerup that he only had for a few minutes (And not even against the main badguy of the arc), but loaded with negative consequences...

just makes Fairy Tail's regular "We'll use tomorrow's power today!" BS all the worse.

I don't think they did. Kil sounds younger and girlier in the new anime

    But I could be wrong

note 1: Some of these weren't true. Guess which ones.

note 2: People are quite expeditive with OP lately, I get it it's not the best arc, but seriously, some guys are already looking like giving up on it like it's the next Naruto Post Time Skip. . .

note 3: I also find the latest HxH chapters excellent, that's just common sense. That being said, the Ant arc conclusion doesn't hold a candle to the current Zoldyck/Save Gon/Save Alluka/Elections arc. At least, to me. Good, but not stellar. Just like the current OP arc : Not stellar, but definitely Good. Or at least decent enough.

note 4: This is not a rage post. I'm not an Oda fanboy. Shit, did I say Oda? I meant Goda. But no fanboyism here!

Edit: And of course, most of this isn't directed at you, Oga. I was just taking it out of my insides. Peace and love here!
Weirdly enough it took me a while (and quite a bit of denial) to realise that Hunter X Hunter is a better shonen then One Piece.

Now I don't want to generalise the entire fanbase here but I think that Togashi's recent chapters have given us what we expected the Fishman Island to be - a flawless mix of exposition, character development and excitement. Alternately I've found that Fishman Island has not kept to a solid pace and thus felt like it was too rushed in the adventure aspect in turn making the fighting seem waaaayyyyyy toooooooo slooooooowwwww. Maybe once Oda moves on from Fishman Island and we have a real adventure arc the people who are not just obsessed with action will begin to embrace One Piece again but at the moment Hunter X Hunter is king.

I bet if Oda took 7 years to get through a single arc with lengthy vacations all throughout he could plan an amazing handful of chapters too. (And yes, a combination of factors has caused him to flub the FI arc in several ways, but it hasn't been outright bad in any way. Just really rushed and with the leads overpowered.)

Good as Togashi is doing at the moment, I just can't respect him when he's gone on hiatus as much as he has. I've always said if he could just keep going he'd be head to head with Oda for favorite running shonen. If he delivers week in and week out for a couple years straight, great. Until then, eh. He's just a lazy bastard who's had a lot of time to think about a couple chapters.

Someone that delivers an 8 out of 10 forty five times a year, with an occasional 6 and an occasional 10, rates better in my book than someone who delivers a 10 four times in a row then delivers 0 for the next year.

Well, it depends on what you're looking for in a Shounen. I love both Hunter x Hunter and One Piece, but in completely different ways. For example, one thing I really love is how One Piece actually handles very deep and aspects of society from racism, slavery, and how to learn acceptance of others to a younger demographic. It does all of this while also handling a well told and coherent story, actual humor, and characterization.

Hunter x Hunter manages to handle psychological issues very well while still doing mind games when it comes to fights and other issues. It also shows obvious fore-planning with the chapters, so there's no way in heck someone could make Hunter x Hunter while they're going along. I also believe it's come up with the most complex fighting system with nen. I'd be glad if someone else can point out a manga where they can think of another manga with that complex of a system.

For the moment though, I'm enjoying Hunter x Hunter more.

@Robby Yeah....I'm kinda curious to see the comparison between chapters released for Berserk and Hunter X Hunter since the beginning of all of the major hiatuses. Though I still know Berserk chapters have more(and better) art and pages.

JoJo's Bizarre adventure has a pretty interesting variety of abilities, but its not quite as thought out and balanced as Hunter's.

I don't think you're going to find a system as thought out as Hunter's anywhere else. Naruto randomly rips off aspects of it, after years of not even hinting at it, but then abandons and forgets them a week later.

In all fairness, Hunter X Hunter is intended to be a much darker series (for a Shonen) than Fairy Tail. Fairy Tail is actually fairly lighthearted compared to most Shonen. I've read some of your works too, Robby (Particularly Pirates vs. Ninjas, which I love), and they're also comparatively dark to Fairy Tail.

There were always signs that the world of HxH was technologically situated in 1999-2000. But now that theory has to be dropped.

Uhhhh...... There's also been signs that the world of HXH has technology situated decades and decades away from where we are now

(The tech seen in Greed Island for just one example)
(the beetle cell phone in the Yorkshin arc was an iPhone-ish phone before the inception of the iPhone)

That's because the series has taken 12+ years to write due to all of Togashi's hiatuses. When it started, the technology WAS 1999-2000.

Greed Island is nen, not technology.

I know that the series had 1999 technology because it was being writen in 1999. But what I mean is that even if Togashi has taken 12 years to write it, in the HxH world it was only 1 or 2 years. So I expected the technology to be like 2001.

I'm not saying that it is an inconsistency, after all the world of HxH is different that ours. Togashi can do whatever he want. But I liked the 2000's atmosphere that the Yorkshin Arc had. Just that.

    (Sorry for my bad english)

    So do I!

Like I keep saying. Better to be pleasantly surprised than suddenly disappointed. Togashi only has his own track record to blame for the pessimism.

Isn't Naruto's near end something to take into consideration ?

I mean things are a bit different this time, even the anime coincides with the hiatus' end.

It must be nice to be optimistic.

About Naruto ending soon, that is.

Hunter X Hunter's definitely my favorite running Shonen manga, but I'm okay with its hiatuses. I've lived through every single one so far and at this point I'm pretty much adjusted to them. While it would be nice for the series to keep going, I'm really thankful that Togashi finally finished the Chimera Ant arc; as good as it was, it was something of a weight upon the shoulders of both him and his readers.

And even if it does go on hiatus in a month, at least Liar Game's back!!!
