Breaking the ice here. This is a discussion thread after all.
Before we even start, I'd like to thank Ubiq and all the others who organize and moderate these yearly AP events, because they don't get the praise they deserve. Both the character tournament and the forum awards are something I, and I am not afraid to say the most as well, do not see so often. These official forum events make AP a really interesting community to be a member of, as they have always something new and interesting to give. The idea is awesome, the format well thought out and the execution could not be any better. We love you guys for making it possible for us to enjoy such energizing moments. This is what makes AP at least my favourite internet community. Thank you.
So guys, keep the discussion clean and whatnot. Let's have a fun December yet again.
@Ubiq: Can you give us any estimates how long a category will stay open for nominations in the case that it does not get ten nominees in, say, 24 hours. You said they'll stay open until some mod closes them, but do you think you'll add a certain time limit to ensure that every category has enough choices? The more categories are open at the same time, the less nominations those less popular categories will get. This was a minor problem last year, but what about this time?

It's been a hard day's night, and I've been working like a dog. It's been a hard day's night, I should be sleeping like a log. But when I get home to you, I find the things that you do will make me feel alright. You know I feel alright, yeah.
I've been looking forward to this. I enjoyed it immensely last time. As Dryish said, the mods who run this show gets a huge thank you from me as well, you guys rock. Yeah, I couldn't really put it better than Dryish did, so let's get this show on the road!
I like how Fairy Tail has joined Naruto and Bleach in the ranks:)

Eh... while it sounds like a nice round number, twenty-four hours is a really long time in practice and can hold up the entire process. The reason I avoided giving a hard limit is that the situation can vary from time to time. If nobody is on, then the categories should remain open longer so that people have an opportunity to nominate something in it. On the other hand, if there are a lot of people milling around in the discussion thread that haven't nominated anybody in those categories and don't feel like bothering, then the category should probably be closed and a new one opened. I think our Event Staff is a pretty good selection of people who can show proper judgment in this sort of thing.
If it turns out that a category was closed before it reaches its limit and somebody posts a valid candidate shortly afterwards. then we'll probably allow that name. I don't want people making early nominations, but late nominations might not be as bad, especially if they had a good reason like they were looking for a link to a post and didn't find it before the category closed. Now, if it's like a week afterwards, that's unlikely to happen to say the least, but if there are nine candidates and somebody suggests not long after it closes, we'll think about adding them. That sort of thing will be more likely if the category is really short of qualified candidates though.
And we'll only open new categories when the old ones close so there shouldn't be too much trouble with one category crowding the others out, especially since the two categories should feed off of one another.
Well, it's that time of year again.
Best of luck, everyone!

Just a question, but why don't we have any music-related categories? Like Best and Worst Musical Acts or Best and Worst Songs?
Just never came up really.
How many anual awards have already passed?
WHAT!!!
GO AWAY!!
There was one back in 2005 and then from 2009 on.

(I could have missed it, but what about literature-related categories?)
We tried Best and Worst Novels in the past and the categories didn't do all that well.
