Luffy and Dragon do save a lot of islands from harm or evil but, their personalities are almost polar opposites. Luffy is extroverted and loud while Dragon is secretive and silent.

I kinda expected Luffy to end up taking the blame for the sweets, but I did not see him delivering such a daring challenge. Also Big Mom is more disgusting than I expected.

What's wrong with Sanji? He took that giant goblet but ignored the golden(?) mermaid?
Crazy theory right here since Oda loves hiding things in plain sight. That mermaid was turned into metal by some ability and in a later adventure she gets turned back into her living form and she will turn out to be someone from the Void Century and obviously she'll be a candidate for joining the SH.

Hmm, I'm not so sure about "powerhouse". Its more likely that she just has some abilities that make her extremely useful to Big mom, but she can use them from that room (Think like Perona-ish). I wouldn't be surprised if she fights remotely/from far away or in a supporting role rather than getting her hands dirty.

I'll guess she winds up as Robin's opponent rather than the Monster Trio's.

Well one thing is clear, she is not comfortable sitting there next to Big Mom/Mam (Did the databook say the name is Big Mam?) In the three panels we the 3-eyed lady, she looks like she's hiding some emotion like sadness or disgust. Maybe you're right and she has a some remote power (like Perona) and is being forced to work for Big Mom

This rivalry with Big Mom won't last. Mind you, I say this only from gut feeling, but I saw nothing in this chapter that screamed "big bad" to me. None of these people -- including Big Mom -- have the look of villains to me. They look like your typical whacky side characters that befriend the Strawhats along the way. I get the feeling Oda seems to have gone out of his way to paint her in a menacing or mysterious light just to throw the reader off.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure she is a selfish pirate who's ruthless in her methods and may very well be a threat in the immediate future, but I don't expect it to end in your typical Luffy vs. Final Boss punch fest. Something (maybe Lola, maybe Bonney, maybe another element altogether) will get in the way to divert her attention.

Her powers (almost certain she does have a fruit at this point) are also interesting to speculate about. A "Stomach Acid" or "Acid Saliva" fruit is just too easy. I could go on with a myriad of insane theories, but that's for another post.

That was a really awesome chapter. Great new character's design, creppy Big Mum, badass Luffy... and some big hype for the New World.

I'm usually too lazy to comment anything and just read the threads around here, but this time one thing really bugged me: the great amount of people saying Luffy is just too weak to face Bib Mum by now.
I honestly believe he is enough strong to beat the crap out her on the stage he is. Come on... He trained for two whole years with the Dark King himself. He did not only learn haki this time, he toughed-up a lot for sure. Ops, my bad: It was not for two years, it was for only 1 and a half year, because Luffy manage to learn all Reylegh planned to teach way faster than he thought (that's Oda telling us: "Luffy's stronger than Reyleigh would even have imagined").
I'm not saying he'll fight her in 15 chapts or so. It's most likely that we'll have a long arc (Alabasta-like), with them facing several Bib Mum's crew and allys and maybe some unrelated forces (supernovas, or ex-level 6 prisioners) until they actually meet LinLin herself. But that does not mean he'll be stronger by then. What will be "stronger" is the New World and Big Mum´s influences build-ups.
And thinking in retrospect, it's pretty similar to the the whole Crocs thing. Luffy had just entered the Grand Line and already made enemies with a Shichibukai. We might have thought he was just too green to make it, but it wasn't. As matter of fact, all he's previous enemies were the ones too weak for him (Kuro, Buggy, Krieg and even Arlong - none of them posed a threat to Luffy). Luffy's first real match was Croc (and then he lost twice and won once... but won). And only later we found out why that was actually possible and not "just because of plot": he spent 10 fucking years trainnig everyday with Sabo and Ace in a hellish jungle/dump! Of course Luffy felt confident since the beggining. He knew his strengh (well... until the world beat the crap out of him in Saboady/ID/Marineford).
The same thing is happenig now: he knows his current strengh (we are the ones who have no idea yet). The difference is that now he's got a lot more experience, fought with the world's best, and trainned with the world's best...

Well... what I'm saying - if i'm saying anything at all - is that it's not too soon for them to face a Younkou. We just need to have a well build up arc (luckily, we have Oda to do so).
And as someone already pointed that the problem would not be Luffy beat a Younkou, but the afterwards. I beg to differ. There are a bunch of high level oponents (2 other younkou; all the supernovas - who does not fear the younkou as we seen with Drake and Kidd; old and new Shichibukais; level 6 prisioners; new world pirates; all Marine forces - with somewhat misterious new powerups as said by Jimbe; World Goverment itself; yet-to-be-known oponents...). Sorry to be the one who say this, but One Piece has to end some day...

Hey Guys,

I am new to posting although I read your guy's posts for a while now.

I dont know if this has been mentioned, but all I wanted to say is that I believe that Big Mom's crew seems to be based off fairy tales and myths. Humpty Dumpty (Baron Tamago), We have a Cyclops (That Girl), and whatever Big Mom is.

I also wanted to say that I hope that the new world is going to start dealing with "obtaining" islands under your pirate flag. It would be awesome if that started to play a big role in crews fighting and how pirates interact.

Oh man, this chapter. I hate how Oda teases us, but when he gives us stuff like this and the last, it's all the more sweeter.

That said, I can't imagine Linlink will go down so quickly. I think as Vongola said, the early Arcs of the New World, Linlin, her crew, and any allies chase Luffy throughtout her territories. I also imagine her VS Luffy will be like Crocodile, but stretched out far, far more.

Also, damn she's creepy looking.

Baron Tamago has the best design but i liked Peksom "pure" eyes i really laughed.The casual picking the phone that wasnt for him was really funny and yes luffy has big balls no wonder they shine.

Hmm i wonder if there other tribes of long-insert body part .

We know there are tribes with long body parts since the human auction house, Long arms, long legs, long necks, there are also Mikman or something like that and Dwarves along with the already known mermaids/fishman/giants and the sky races.

As far as I'm concerned, it's always been "Big Mom" -- the only one that makes sense. "Mam" irks me to no end. The same thing happened with "Icebarg." You know what it's supposed to be, why would you let a mistranslation get in the way?
Oda's written it as "Big Mom" about twice now.

So luffy is going to declare islands he wants to protect his after he beat their previous keepers? Doesn't sound as much conquering as protecting your friends by declaring they are your friends, i.e WB declaring that anyone who hurts his crew would be retaliated on whoever they were. What will Big Mam do with a rookie? And if she declares him her enemy, will luffy fight her henchmen or just wait for NW. And how come the whole treasure of FI amount to 3 bags? Even the food Hancock cooked was a lot larger.
