This is feasible, but can't be used to make an argument because there's nothing to support it and a lot to disprove it. For example: Demarco Black and Buggy the Clown. One of them insanely weak and one of them just a little weak. Demarco was on the verge of creating a crew that would destroy him easily, and Buggy's crew would probably do the same to him.

I actually think that if there was ever a time when Luffy was in a fight to the death against his current crew (with or without jinbe) he would get his ass handed to him.

Firstly I don't have anything oriving to me that Buggy isn't the strongest in his crew. Secondly the fakes never so much as set sail with all those pirates and Caribou was going to kill him anyway. Thirdly neither one of those are yonkou. My original thought on the matter weren't that they were equal but rather decent captains are stronger than there crew put together. Some People may not. Exp Luffy has an extremly talented crew so maybe not him and pre gura Kurohige seemed weaker than his crew individually but in gerneal in their prime the captain should be as strong as his crew. Thats what makes them fierce.

Of course not. But Oda excels at making things believable. There are a plethora of ways he could think of to make Luffy win, or tie with Big Mom, that aren't based on DBZ-like fights. But actually we don't even know how this whole mess is going to develop yet. Better wait for some chapters to see what he has in mind.

I feel like we'll have to learn more about Haki as we go. In DBZ the characters had "Power Levels" which were easy to read and compare. The thing is, in the case with most anime, even those numbers could be skewed depending on the level of emotion the character showed. Gohan is a perfect example, he was a kid with a low power level until he saw his dad killed, then his power shot up exponentially.

The same could be true with Haki, but then you can add in Devil fruit powers which change the game. At some point with the slew of technology being introduced to the series. I wouldn't be surprised if there was an accurate way to measure the strength of any given character RPG style.

I like it better without a hard system. I mean it's nice if to have the bounties or Fukurou's system so you can show where new characters rank in the world, but it's counter-productive when devil fruit powers can be so unpredictable when matched up to others (Luffy vs Enel, Mr. 3 vs Magellan, Buggy vs Mihawk). That's actually one of the draws of One Piece, that the fights can be very unpredictable whether or not the fighters are the same power level.

I'm with ya, but you know as well as I do there's always a gaming aspect to anime. This power discussion is a direct result of that. Who's stronger? In a game there would have to be factors that could add up to some sort of calculated ratio. At the end of the day it's plot that will effect the outcomes. Location, who vs who, what weapons or power ups they may have... In Dragon Ball and Gurren Lagann it's emotion and drive! That's still the best aspect of OP in my opinion. Luffy's drive is always what saves him and causes him to grow, devil fruit or no.

No it's not true that the Mugiwara pirates are more than four days travel time away from Candy Island. As Tamago clearly stated -- one needs three days to reach said island when starting from FI.

Yeah, I'm curious too, how fast or slow the next chapter will be. The business of the SHs on FI has ended and the fishman island arc felt closed, so hopefully they will set sail this chapter. But oda could also stretch the departure over 2-3 chapters, especially when temago/pekoms are still there, though I dont think that they will attack luffy straight away. But just walking way is kind of embarrassing for crew members of an yonkou.

Even though Tamago and Pekoms just bore witness to Luffy calling their boss out, there's no way they'd do 2 v 3 against the monster trio. Maybe they have a third crew member in the wake who'll show up next chapter - like an equivalent to a low-end Whitebeard division commander or something. Then we'd have a good fight on our hands that'd fill up half of the chapter (possibly the whole thing) nicely:

*Luffy vs commander wannabe (wins after some effort)
*Sanji/Zoro vs Tamago/Pekoms respectively (both win after a few panels)

One thing I've generally learned, the more "shocked" people get that Luffy is doing something ballsy against someone else, the less strong they are. It just feels that way to me. Even if we are talking about Big Mom's crew.

Reminds me of how Shanks sent Rockstar to talk with Whitebeard. A guy of that level would get wiped off the floor with the current monster trio.

I wasn't judging the characters on their looks; rather, it'd just be a huge failure if two characters labeled as simply "fighter" were good enough to outdo the monster trio. Maybe the plot could justify Pekoms and Tamago being better than Zoro and Sanji, but almost nothing could justify them being stronger than those two + Luffy put together.
