:o didn't notice the thread here.

Yup, this is very nearly my favorite show airing this season. The playing just looks so lifelike, and the rotoscoping is more fluid than I would've expected.

But the most interesting part: the series is set during the beginning months of the cultural revolution in China, the years preceding the counterculture in the West, and the 6 years before the reversion of the islands just south of the story's setting. I'm still not sure what's connecting the series and the history surrounding the southern islands, but I can already tell there's a little social upheaval with our MC switching from classical to jazz.

Solid show. Loving it. Dat jam session last episode was the bomb. God, I wish I could play jazz on drums.
    I'm in a good mood.

Just watched the first three episodes.

Well, I'm hooked. I'm quite reminded of Nodame Cantabile, which I rather loved.

When does it actually air, so that I know when the next episode is up?

    @RobbyBevard: Thursdays, I believe...

I need to catch up on this, but I'll have to wait until I have access to by brother's laptop...

So I've just caught up to episode four and god, am I loving this show. Gorgeous animation and soundtrack, with a cast of characters that I find to be legitimately interesting and likable. It's been a while since I've enjoyed a good slice-of-life series such as this; I'll definitely be waiting for this show from week to week. Anyone who hasn't checked this series out yet, do so! It's worth your time.

    Regarding the latest episode:
    Spoiler:
Really loved Kaoru's reaction to hearing Sentaro's backstory; it felt very natural and poignant. I do like how he and Sentaro can shake off their disagreements without dragging out the drama to the point of monotony. Maybe that will change later on (I certainly hope not!), but right now, the pacing of the show is spot-on for me. It's just so damn good.

But man...things be gettin' (more) complicated in the romance department. What a mess. :(

    a mood come alive.

I had no words for how amazing episode 4 was

It had so much music playing too and those final two jazz performances in the bar

    God

Holy SHIT wow. I love how the animation completely is drawn to match the music they are playing perfectly. The flashback was really great and necessary too.

I just can't understand how EVERY EPISODE is twice as good as the last. By the end I'll just be cumming six times a minute.

I really hope they don't meet that drunk American douche that interrupted that supposed fantastic performance again. They took care of the matter professionally though, so it's all good. Infact, the whole episode was good. Hopefully they get a redo of the today's song as Sentaro didn't get to drum with justice as much this ep.

My favorite part? The manly tears.

I bet by episode 6 Sentarou and Kaoru just go WOW WOMEN ARE COMPLICATED

    YOU KNOW WHAT MAKES SENSE

    ... JAZZ

and then they just start having that gay makeout session they've been wanting since episode 1.

I was amused when the engrish, and english lyrics were also subtitled.

The comedy of that aside, great episode.

The series has been fantastic so far, concerning both the music and the characters. They need to add a girl who likes Kaoru, though, to make things a nice, even hexagon...

Watchin' this, loving this. Haven't stopped in here before now for some reason though.

Watanabe makes it look so easy to make a stellar series, doesn't he? Obviously this and Fate/Zero are the shows to beat this season.

Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck fuck. I hate high school romance dramas so god damn much...

Then why can't I put this series down? It's so well-written and I haven't even gotten to the anime yet. The jazz and jazz references were definitely a hook, but the writing is so sincere that it keeps me in. Especially the moments where they're playing. Man, the way they communicate through music is quite something to read. What's the best source to watch the subbed anime?

Not sure if it's necessarily the best one, but I get the subbed episodes from WhyNot? Fansubs.

I'm glad to see a thread for this, because I've just gotten into it as well. Though with me I first saw the cover of the soundtrack(which is AWESOME), went "hey that guy is in The Beast's sig what is this again", watched the first episode and the rest is history. I started to read the manga too and so far it's lovely~

We all know Jun-nii is gay for Kaoru.

Thank you, man. Just watched the first episode, and the anime is even better than the manga. Not that I expected anything less from the director they got. I love how faithful they are to jazz, too. Even down to the records in the shop (all pretty great jazz records). Small details like that make me happy. I'm excited to follow along with this series.

I just started this and all I got to say is it's Fantastic. Every episode just draw you in and when it is over you just want to hit the replay button. The recent episode 7 the Duet at the end just made this series legendary. I usually hate these genre anime but this anime is on it's own league. Here is a taste for everyone who is missing this.

Man I wanna go watch the Sound of Music again now.

Caught up with the manga, but haven't started watching the anime yet. That music is awesome and I want it.
