    Default General Ben 10/Generator Rex thread

    Because like the last 20 pages of the Cartoon Network thread have all been about Ben 10.

    Complain here about how the grown up series wasn't as fun as the first series... that the first series wasn't as smart at the later one, or that the new series looks weird. Contemplate that Ben only uses 14 aliens when he has access to 10,000. Muse on Kevin mostly being in the series to keep Gwen and Ben from incest. Talk about that time he met Generator Rex.

    I might move posts later, but when there's that many its kind of a pain.

    Looks to have some much needed personality infused into the visuals.

    To be honest.... I can't tell if I hate or love this.

    It looks like its combing elements from both series to make some kind of weird fusion.
    - The Omnitrix on the alien's are green like the later series, but on random spot like the previous series.
    - Ben's shirt is a weird hybird of both designs.

    On the plus side;
    + I really dig the new hair, and the shirt.
    + Lego alien... just makes me happy.
    + Kirby Crackles are back.

    On the negative side;
    - The pointy ear is just bad design...
    - The new Omnitrix throws out everything from its original designs.

    I actually can't wait to see how this looks animated. The Alien Force voice actors are on board to voice the characters, for those who are wondering.

    EDIT:

    More of Ben's Design;

    Ben 10: Omniverse, coming in September, will feature a brand new animation and character design style by Derrick Wyatt of Transformers Animated and Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorperated fame and star a more youthful looking Ben. Reportedly, the story of the new series features 16 year old Ben going back in time to assist his 10 year old self. Not much more is known about this series as of yet, but it’s rumored to feature some of the same writers from Animated and Mystery Inc., so anyone who’s bored by the plotless retconning oblivion that is the current season of Ultimate Alien will soon find salvation. Check out Ben’s new design below:
    Source.

    And Derick J Wyatt tweeted;
    The new Ben 10 will be a great place to start in the series, but will have homages to the past. Like Scooby, TFA, and Teen Titans.

    I haven't watched any of the Ben 10 series in a while, but I will say that the new character design style for Ben looks weird as hell.

    I laughed way too hard at this.

    Also after seeing "Blox" I had to make this;

    Toy Designs:

    Ben (and Young Ben)

    Shocksquatch apparently got a completely new design. He's original design in the Gen Rex crossover looked like this;

    Rook, Ben's new alien sidekick.

    Most likely replacing the green cars and the Rust Bucket;

    Looks like DJW is aware of the initial backlash,but it's good he's confident that people will warm up to the new series as the episodes come out.Fan bases on a whole usually cry foul when there's a new series of the favorite franchise

    This is going to be the "Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get a Clue" of the Ben 10 franchise.

    @Ubiq, no way. "Get a Clue" looked bad, sounded bad, and was a completely different show... Scooby and Shaggy going on secret mission style adventures? Scooby eats Scooby-snacks... and got super powers?

    Seriously, Derrick J. Wyatt does some awesome work. Its a little jarring because of how different it is, but at least it has personality. Something the dull... blocky... generic... Alien Force and Ultimate Alien art style. Seriously, there was little thought in the style of those two shows.

    Jeez. This is just...offputting. I know from Spectacular Spider-man not to judge a series by the art but it seems like a very radical change from the past two series' artwork. And Ben with his pastself? Is Kevin and Gwen going to be in it?

    Why not go with the original story for Alien Force; Ben and Gwen teaching kids with Alien powers. We saw a bit of this in Alien force with people like the Heatblast-species kid, but why not introduce more characters like that instead of relying on a non-developed, past Ben.

    Doens't surprise me, the initial reaction to a single stock image from Transformers Animated sent TF fans into a tizzy. (I wasn't too fond of it either) Seeing the style in motion flipped many of their opinions around (myself included). So, I'll give the show a shot, even if the plot sounds ridiculous. (Not a fan of Kid Ben)

    Transformers Animated won over fans by having writers that were willing to work in endless references to the franchise's vast history. I'd also say that, new style or not, the designs on that show were infinitely more like G1 era Transformers than the Michael Bay versions of the same characters.

    Transformers Animated had a lot of things going for it. The simplistic and blocky art style made for very appealing designs for toys, seriously the animated toys are some of the best in Transformers history (visually atleast). Also Ubiq is right, the writers did make endless references to the old series (for the better... and for the worst). But I think the biggest strengths (in my opinion, and for me) was the fact that some of the writers worked on Beast Wars and borrowed a lot from of things that was done right on Beast Wars and brought it to Animated. A small but dynamic group of Autobots who weren't heroic warriors but worker class robots who learn to be become heroes. That shit works, yo.

    Actually, everything that Derrik J Wyatt has worked on has done the same thing. Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated makes endless references to its predecessors (well... mostly just Where Are You?! and 13 Ghost) while bring something new to both writing visually; Teen Titans did the same.

    And from the articles and tweets, Wyatt says Omniverse is going to do the same. Especially make references to the previous series. You know the only thing that bothers me about Omniverse is the fact that is a continuing the god awful Ultimate Alien series. When I saw they're changing art styles, I was really hopping for a retcon or reboot.

    EDIT: More Pics!

    Feedback looks kind of cool... but the Heartless looking thing is even neater.
