New Super Mario Bros. 2

Easy now folks; I feel like I just walked into a Call of Duty message board... They just announced it, so let's see what they're coming up with as time goes by.

We'll most likely get more info at E3; Plus, with what SM3D Land did with the features of the 3DS, I'm thinking just what kind of crazy stuff they could cook up with on a 2D Mario title. For me, I can NEVER get enough of Mario's adventures and it ain't stopping now; Mario is the reason I'm a gamer.

I think my problem is that it's so soon since Mario 3D Land and another one already. (and I still think Mario 3D Land was awesome.) I'm sure once this one is due to come out I'll be jumping around for it.

Nintendo, I'm dissapointed that lately, when it comes to Mario, all you do is slap some nostalgic factors like power-ups or enemies and call it a day.

Yes, I will still buy this game, and yes I will still enjoy it. But I will only enjoy it because I enjoyed past Mario games, not because this game will have anything new to offer.

Actually, maybe that's a bit presumptuous of me. If this game has a new set of villains, my interest will go up considerably.

Galaxy 2 is one of the most innovative games ever. You could make entire games out of some of their level ideas.

While I agree that Galaxy 2 had great levels, the gameplay was still the same. Plus, some levels reused ideas from the first game like Shiverburn Galaxy and Honeyhop Galaxy.

Normally I'd say you have a good point, but for the case of honest Super Mario Bros. adventures (I consider this a separate entity from games like Galaxy, 64, Sunshine, even Mario World really) , I'd personally be a little more worried about them screwing up an otherwise time-tested and beloved franchise's core mechanics (*hackotherMhack*), than I am about playing a game that knew was good more than 20 years ago.

also, fuck the koopalings. I never liked them. I think they're better than boom-boom, or a classic bowser fight, but maybe, JUST MAYBE we could have new enemies that are't complete throwaways?

I agree with the disappointment. There's been a constant onslaught of Mario games, and while I get the significance of Mario to Nintendo, it feels like the potential is there for them to at least make a game with a different aesthetic. It's like they're just recycling material just to do things quickly, and it's disappointing just like the WiiU tech demos were disappointing (NSMBMii is a pathetic excuse for a tech demo, and battle mii is essentially the Pacman vs. game from when they announced GBA and GCN connectivity.)

edit: and really, it's not like they need to sell people on the system at this point, after super mario 3D land and mario kart 7 the 3DS is selling like hot bread. So why?? I don't doubt it'd be fun, but I can still play the heck out of the DS and Wii versions, why am I spending 30-40 dollars to do more of the same?

Thankfully we've had games like Kid Icarus and there's a Paper Mario on the horizon. Here's hoping they actually have some innovation in there.

I agree with the disappointment if the Mario franchise as well. I mean, I love Mario but only when it leaps different bounds. Mario Galaxy 1 for instance. Galaxy 2 disappointed me, mainly because it no longer felt like this awesome frantic adventure through space. The levels just felt like normal levels that happened to be floating around. I mean if that's what Nintendo wanted, they should have made a something in akin to Mario 64 that takes place in Mushroom Kingdom.

And I also wish to see a Mario Kart game that borrows ideas from other racers like it.. Like DKR and KTR.
Seriously. An adventure mode. Bosses. Bonus levels. Minigames with rewards. ect.
Collecting cups on different engine speeds isn't that fun of a single player experience.
And oh. Double Dash!! is still my favorite MK game. Mianly for the gimmick and best drifting system(you can tactically use it to avoid blue shells, and that was epic as hell)

They didn't even bother changing the world themes.

Guess we're going to cruise through plains, deserts, snow fields, beaches, toxic forests, mountains, sky and volcanoes all over again.

I already had a hard time keeping my interest for Super Mario 3D Land due to all the Tanooki love, the recycled Galaxy ideas and the sucky bosses. This actually might be the first time where a Mario game doesn't interest me at all.

It's classic 2D Mario; Why would anyone have a problem with this!?!? Sorry, but it just feels ridiculous seeing all this negativity... Plus, the Wii U Tech Demo IMO may not have anything to do with the Mario Wii U title. I think Nintendo is cooking up a surprise with Mario's Wii U title.

People here are obviously nintendo fans but with the constant stream of mario it is getting a little old. Before there was like 1 or 2 main mario games per console but now were getting 3 or 4. It's become like a yearly thing now to recieve either a 3d or 2d mario. Theres also worry cause NSMBWii wasn't that good and that there may also be a wii U one coming out this year as well.
