This was awesome, thanks for sharing. :) I hope we'll get to see another video of Oda doing a regular manga panel some day. I wonder how he goes about deciding what sorts of patterns to use for different surfaces; his manga panels have so damn much detail! Really, I'm more curious for that than I am for his colouring that I almost never see anyway.

Oda draws and colors Luffy, Chopper, and background scenery (including seagulls). Time taken: <21 minutes. That's freaking incredible imo.

It took longer, they made some cuts. Probably closer to 40 min or so. Thats still very fast. I think it took e1n a dozen hours or so to makes one of his big color spreads. :D

I found the information about why he stop having white sky backgrounds most informative. He was so concerned about the patchness of the sky that he just refused to color it. So now, he'll always have to go over the sky a couple of times for it to feel full. Great way of making tons more work for yourself, Oda!

That was a great video. I've read several accounts about the process he uses to create the series. Nice to see it from rough drawings to finished color.

You're right, there were cuts for Oda to actually pick up his tools and take them to his drawing board (I don't know the right term). Even so, it's awesome to see a master of old school drawing and coloring to work faster than many computer users.

Kinda surprised that the colouring isn't done digitally.

Using pens to colour like that, looks like a very tough and ardious process.

More power to the man that he can do it so well though.
