    Default The Great Gatsby

Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, and Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway.

I recently read the book and enjoyed the themes and symbolism. I understand what they're going for, but the trailer seems a little too flashy for a 20's setting, but I'm no expert on the Jazz age myself, so what do I know.

Also, here's an article about how the 3D is suppose to change movies:
    http://theweek.com/article/index/223...ange-3d-movies

Not sure if I'm buying into that. I've heard these claims about previous films and wasn't impressed.

    ...Old Sport.

Looks interesting. It's a great book and I'd love to see how they'll portray it in this movie. I saw a different movie but wasn't thoroughly impressed.

Been waiting for this trailer for awhile. One of the few books in high school that I enjoyed.

Edit: The Indian in me is slipping out. Is that Amitabh Bachchan, one of the greatest bollywood actors of all time, in this movie? Anyone unfamiliar should reflect back to the scene in slumdog millionaire where the kid gets the autographed card from his favorite movie star.

I loved the book so I guess I'll give this a shot.
It looks a little too clean though, I always imagined the New York Fitz was writing as having at the very least a thin layor of dirt.

That looks really interesting. I'm probably going to read the book now because I don't want to wait for the movie.

Well, I absolutely loved Moulin Rogue, but I didn't really care for any of the other movies Laz has directed. So... maybe?

Why was this trailer full of hip hop? This movie is supposed to take place in the 20s.

    Nothing here for now.

They need to use the hip-hop to trick the youngsters into buying tickets.

It's what Laz does. Moulin Rogue takes place in 1900 and uses Madonna and Elton John. Its still a period piece, but uses modern music so a modern audience can properly identify with the atmosphere and feelings supposed to be stirred.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid had "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head", so, its hardly a new or exclusive crime.

Funny thing is, almost everyone else I know read the book as a required reading in high school, while it was never the case for me. We had other books such as The Hobbit and A Tale of Two Cities, and some Shakespeare here and there.

It could've been worse, say, Skrillex Although you'd have to be an idiot to even attempt such a thing.

I'm pretty much in the same boat, although I've never seen Australia, nor do I want to, looking at the reception it has.

Australia wasn't *bad* perse... but it should have stopped at the 2 hour mark. The 3rd hour was it trying to o hard to be a Gone with The Wind/Titanic style epic. It also didn't have any life to it.

Or maybe if all three hours of material had been cut down to two it would have been a solid fast paced epic. Hard to tell.

Either way, it was too long.

I read the book semi-voluntarily at secondary school and didn't understand a thing about it. And now I don't remember a thing about it. Maybe I should freshen up my memories when this movie comes out, assuming that this is actually based on the book to some extent and not just the name of the book...

Yo listen up, here’s a story about a little guy that lives in a blue world…

I'm sorry. I'm so so sorry, but I HAVE to say this.

I fucking hate the Great Gatsby. I got the message. I understood the story. I just....hated it. It was pretty much what the Scarlet Letter was to everyone else (I like the Scarlet Letter though). I just hate this story, and the movie just has a feel of Romeo + Juliet...and I loathed that movie.

I'm sorry. I like Moulin Rouge, but I'd rather skip this one.

I read this book in high school, like most of you, and thought I liked it because I could be one of those pretentious folks that could talk about symbolism in everything. Picked it up again a few years later, pretty bored.

Still like pretending I know about symbolism, though.

Honestly, Tobey Maguire being in it makes me not want to see it more than any other factor.

He's just... that awful whiny Spiderman kid to me.

I actually just finished reading this in school. Kind of disappointed with Tobey being cast' as Nick.

Oh thank god, I don't have to be the anti-Tobey person for once.

    I'm going to chill instead.
