What is with all the sarcastic jokes in this thread?
I was about to give a real response before I noticed that the thread starter had laughably thin skin. So I took the low road.
Okay, I guess it is pretty funny.
This may sound dumb, but I want there to be a threat that actually REQUIRES all nine crewmates to do something substantial. Fishman Island? If Noah hadn't been crashing, Luffy would have been able to solo all of the commanders. Even WITH Luffy occupied, Nami and Robin didn't get to fight real battles. I don't want to put too much blame on the protagonist, but am I wrong in saying that he overshadows his nakama on a regular basis, in terms of power? Enies Lobby was perfect, then I became a bit wary when Oars could only be defeated because Shadow Luffy saved everyone's asses, and it seems that he has become significantly more powerful than everyone else over the TS... Maybe I just have a bad taste in my mouth after the fodder NFP, they'll probably come across stronger opponents soon.
Wait, what did that have to do with the topic? Sorry, got a little off-topic, LOL.
For those saying Robin doesn't seem as much as a crew member, I have a hard time understanding that.
Fuck me look at Enies Lobby! Franky is "okay", but I disliked the whole tech advancement stage One Piece went through between W7 and just before the flashback. I know that has been said before, and even mocked in this thread, but oh well.
Brook is in the crew, so there is no real point complaining about that. It isn't like he is going to be killed this arc or anything. He is there to stay.![]()
i love the originals but i love the new characters as well. As someone said before the straw hat crew isn't the straw hat crew without all its members. The crew is structured to brooks the musician robins archaeologist ECT ECT. Everyone has there part in the crew it wouldn't be the same if the Doctor or ShipWright was missing? wouldnt you say so? and if brook wasnt added into the crew we never hear songs like BONE TO BE WILD ! so i gotta say i love all crew members to the bone ! New members like brook add better music to the strawhat good partys ! and they all play there parts !

This thread was just supposed to be a sort of hypothetical question, I never said that I didn't like Brook, Franky, Robin and Chopper. All the sudden the whole thread was clogged with, "Ya know I miss it when Luffy was the only crew member, Zoro got in the way hahaha".
I guess some of the comments were funny though. Sorry if I came off as brash to anyone.
Nightmare Luffy had very little to do with Oars' defeat. He drew his attention away for a moment while most of the crew was down, and had a couple impressive looking attacks, but he didn't do any lasting damage in that mode (zombie remember). It was still ultimately the team effort that took care of the problem.
Luffy, overexerting himself to exhaustion was able to barely take a near-defeated Moria... then had to leave the rest of the crew to fend for themselves against Kuma.
Nightmare Luffy really contributed very little.
At Enies Lobby he was useless after fighting Lucchi as well and had to be rescued a couple times during and after that fight while everyone else took on all the other problems and played a role. The first pacifista took the entire crew. They were all useless against Kizaru. He needed endless help in Impel Down and the War. Luffy took on Hody, but Hody got in a lucky shot so Luffy recieved a wound that caused him to pass out. Yes, it would have taken longer if he hadn't exerted himself on Noah, but he was in no condition after Hody's bite to go take on the others, even without the boat. Same for Crocodile where the crew took on the backup and Luffy nearly died 3 times, and the arc hinged repeatedly on Sanji being an unknown element.
In fact, Luffy tends to be the only one that can fight the toughest guy, but he usually exhausts himself fully doing so.
Luffy is stronger than his crew physicaly, but he still needs their help in all sorts of ways. (Navigating, cutting, cooking, doctoring, lying, etc.) Just because he CAN fight the big boss doesn't mean he can handle everything else too.
As for the entire crew eventually getting 1 on 1s... thats what Blackbeard is for.
I love everyone on the crew, just don't want Jinbe,he's terrible.
I can't wait for Jinbe to join, he's my favorite. Love his personality and unique design.
How can you not love this?
Besides, they need another serious member after the crazy of Franky and Brook.
I'm really happy with all 9 current members. I jumped onto the series pretty late, so they all feel like the "original" crewmembers to me. For reasons of pacing and the limits of a 20 page weekly comic, I hope they don't add more than a few more members. Jinbe is very welcome however!

1. Nami wants to map all of the world. ALL. Even after Luffy becomes king, she will be travelling the world, discovering new places, new data. She is part of one of the only crews to reach Sky Island, so that makes her in a rare group to begin with, but a navigator on her level hasn't even been mentioned yet, not even in Whitebeards crew.
2. Usopp becoming a brave warrior of the sea is boring? That's the equivalent of Luffy becoming King of the Pirates boring, and we still have yet to find out what he intends to do to achieve this title. Knowing Oda and Usopp's gallant character, it will be big.
3. There's so much wrong with you generalizing Robin's dream that I don't know where to start. Robin wants to find the missing part of history, information that could be the key to unlocking the reason behind deaths of her WHOLE FUCKING ISLAND, including her mother.
I disagree that Franky's dream is pointless, but I do see your point that it's been done before, with generally the same ship. Sanji's dream has always been somewhat vague to me, and I feel I miss the importance behind it, but we likely haven't seen the potential behind it yet.
The Undeniable dream is the least expected dream
Yeah it's definitely a heaven for cooks, but I guess he joined right in the middle of some of the bigger dreams in the crew, and it seemed a little lackluster at the time...but compared to seeing a whale again, it's pretty cool. I also can't wait to see some possible Toriko style strength boosting dishes as hinted while Sanji was in Newkama land!
But uh, on topic. I also really hate to see Franky bunched in with Brook, and mostly because he really hasn't been a "walking cliche of himself" lately, he's been pretty chill and informative.
If anything Chopper should be more comparable to Brook when it comes to slap-stick copy pasted jokes.
