Then for godsakes engage the discussion instead of being all weird about it.
Tell me this isn't referring to Chrissie, please tell me that. I am dying of laughter if it is.(and your not just being a self-righteous ass to me either, lay off Crys will ya?)
Someone on this forum lived through a civil war last year and we followed along, another person sat through a revolution.1) I only nominated tat because I don't really read the news that often (true story) and the only bit of news that I did end up seeing was about that. I'm easily amused by some things. The name amused me. Not the actual event before you even start.
How sheltered are you exactly?
What exactly about me is trolling. Enlighten me.3) Like I really should be doing right now and probably will after this post since it's not worth it to be honest. I'm not letting a self righteous troll get me all worked up and shiz. No more food for you.
You managed to sleep through the most eventful year since 2001 somehow so yes I will say that about you.5) You think I'm REALLY that ignorant? Really?
Fuck you :)
Interesting, I never thought Hetalia may be viewed as that offensive. I mean I know it's rather stupid and has little to do with history, but at the same tome no one was taking it seriously (I never actually gave it much thought, only watched some episodes, most were just boring and the art is bit crappy, and since yaoi is not really my thing... well, I've ended up laughing with friend that LOL, that guy who writes it doesn't know anything). But what Monkey King brought it up it's actually valid. Things like Hetalia may be used to manipulate people to change views about history, and while the author did with Europe may pass as his lack of knowledge about the region, the bit about Asia seems a horrible lie now.
I actually feel a little bad about not spotting it myself since it's actually quite an issue.

Yeah I mean it's angering about Cyprus but that's mostly not so bad coming from a Japanese guy, nothing personal in it. Just ignorance. (now a Turkish version would...another country that has a lot of huge skeletons in it's closet it does not want to acknowledge)
But the Korea thing and the whole way Japan is shown? It's just..... it just goes to reinforce young Japanese kid's views, lord knows the truth there is always at war to be known. And western kids too, who don't know enough.
Too many people assume Germany was the monster, and Japan and Italy were just..aggressive but not particuarly bad forces.
Japan was every bit as bad as Germany save for the fact they did not have a Holocaust.
Italy ..... lol.
I've really got to sit in on my kids' history class one of these days. We always hear about revisionist textbooks; it seems a waste not to take a peek firsthand.
Kind of relevant anecdote:
We're reading a short story in the English textbook called "A Mother's Lullaby," about a young girl who sings to and comforts a little boy in Hiroshima right after the bomb is dropped. He dies from his radiation poisoning and burns as she holds him, and she's dead by the morning. The teacher starts to go on a tangent about WWII but then stops himself, chuckles, and says to the class, "Oh, we'd better not talk about WWII. Caleb Sensei will get angry!"

I take immense pride in my Italian roots every time I remember that Mussolini and his forces were too stupid, incompetent, unpopular and hilarious to get the chance to be anywhere near as bad as Germany and Japan.

GREAT MOMENTS IN ITALIAN HISTORY
-Did you know that the Italians sucked so bad that because they couldn't even conquer the backwards agrarian Greece that Hitler had to be distracted and assign forces to help them out? Possibly delaying Hitler and sapping some of his resources from the Eastern Front? Potentially giving the Russians enough time to push back? Largely contributing to the defeat of the Nazi's?
Remember children, the Italians did not simply suck...
They sucked...for you.
*long line of jews pass by monument to Italians sucking putting stones on it like at the end of Shindler's List*
Crys = TheCrystalShip
Just clearing that up.
And while I'm at it before I leave this particular thread for good, I'll leave you a little gift.

I guess I'm failing to see the difficulty people are having engaging Zephos' and Holy's extremely legitimate arguments.
There are things worth getting upset about, and things that aren't even worth the energy. There's a difference between the two that can't be quantified, but we're talking orders of magnitude here.
This initial tumblr post seems to suggest there is no thing so infinitesimal that it is not worth the blood frothing rage of a ten thousand word screed,
But I think within appreciable limits everyone can accept that both good and bad things can have flaws and still be worth the experience on other levels.
If you get bent out of shape about these little things every time - if even the inklings of offense send you into anaphylactic shock,
You may have a mental health issue larger than the existence of [THIS BAD THING]: your paper thin skin.
Like someone with Crohn's disease working himself into a rage over fart jokes in an Adam Sandler movie and posting VERY STERN WORDS ABOUT IT THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Zephos has established a reason that for srs people could have with Hetalia, made worse because it's popularizing some pretty sensitive history in an extremely gross way. Even if it weren't for its fans.
Stay classy "Germany!"
I mean people are willing to throw down over dumb shit like Big Bag Theory or anything that touches Seth McFarlane's hands, but get skittish over the topic of kawaii WWII apologism tee hee
Pick your battles. If you can't distinguish between the shindy tilts and the real wars then that is a, well,
"problematic thing."
Someone write Silence's post into a song. It's so beautiful.

I love that in the first pic Silence posted at least a couple of people were covering their faces while everyone behind them were happily doing the Nazi salute
I do get a chuckle at the girl to the far left putting up a THUMBS UP SIGN instead of the salute
The gas chamber pic is even better.
Like, doing dis shit would not ever in a million years have entered into the mind of rationally thinking people.
Thank you Hetalia, you sterling angel of revisionist glory.
THIS is some problematic shit - for legitimate, storied reasons.
It just isn't worth it pretending everything is at that level. Or honest.
Or sane!
