Like when Luffy,Sanji and Zoro went to retaliate for Ussop. That was damn powerful.
And I also love it when the manga or anime goes beyound just "over the top" and becomes INSANE.Violence Hero Riki-Oh is a fine example. There's a scene where one of the villains commits seppuku while fighting the protagonist, but this just a trick intended to lure the hero closer,so that the villain may attempt to STANGLE RIKI-OH WITH HIS OWN EXPOSED INTESTINES.And that's just the first volume,it gets much more insane than that.

I think mention of this is worth bringing up this thread, like the counterpart.
I never really paid attention to this before, but I love when a shonen can not only have physical battles but dialogue battles. Especially when it tension feels so high, you'd be at the edge of your seat while reading. There was this particular story segment in Magi that just stood out for me. During the near end of the Balbadd arc, one of the main character confronts the king of a corrupt country in order for him to step down from his throne. During this, a whole heap of mess was going on. Leaders from other countries came into scene. Some expected. Others unexpectedly. And just watching these people eventually talk down the king to the point where he gives up his throne just felt EPIC to me. Maybe epic is an overused word, but it truly felt like a well deserved victory after it was all over. And not a single fist was sent flying at the king, despite how much I would have wanted to see that.
So yeah. Dialogue battles. I never thought about this at all when it comes to manga, but I'm glad that Magi gave me this dose and craving for more.
Nerd turns manly, bully girl falls in love.
It's rare but whenever it happens I get all cuddly inside.
Now if the bully girls falls for no reason while the nerd stays a loser just for harem effect, then it has the opposite effect.
In fact, you know what I wanted to see in Gurren Lagann.
Those three bitches who dissed Simon in the first episode all fawning over him when he became the savior and president of mankind.![]()
- When the outcome of an arc do not rely on a final fight. Yorkshin HxH for example.
- An excellent fight scene you can understand without any explaination coming from the narrator or character.
For some reason I had Takamura from Hajime No Ippo in my head XD he's like the king of trolling lolCharacters that troll the entire cast and break the fourth wall without making the reader feel trolled. like Ansh'in-san and Kumagawa from Medaka Box.
Things that get me REALLY excited, like jump from my seat snap my fingers excited would be:
-When the main character (or a strong side character) gets SUPER pissed... I mean so pissed you know shit is gonna go down (these moments happen so nicely on One Piece and Sun Ken Rock, as well as others like HxH)
-When a great revalation comes down that you hadn't expected to happen eg. Akainu having fought Aokiji etc
-When the main character wagers something big and still loses (Gambler Fish, when Tomu cut his finger)
-When the useless side character starts to try harder to join the main characters side and beats some strong villain that way (Usopp and Chopper vs Mr4 and Ms Merry Christmas)
-When long forgotten characters re-appear in the series unexpectedly... One Piece is just the bests at this... I mean, Coby! who would have ever expected to see him again. Basically when the mangaka doesn't forget his characters he created (All Hail Oda)
Now the not so exciting, but still good things I like to see in mangas:
-Sad moments. Like REALLY sad moments that get you emotionally attached with the story that you actually cry, I remember the first time I cried over an anime was when Zabuza and Haku died... that was when Naruto was still good, it was so sad even though he was the bad guy... which kinda links to how the King of the Chimera Ants died as well... it was just sad man, my tears were swelling up :'( most the SH back stories were friggin sad as well, but I think the main ones that made me cry would have to be Choppers and Brook :'( and the death of Merry
-Strong bonds between friends. OP obviously with Nakama, but I think the most touching one I've seen is Killua and Gons bond... mainly from Killuas view of how hard he tries to be Gons friend and when he cried about not wanting to run away etc... that innocent pure non-yaoi love between them is what I love seeing in mangas.
-Realistic stories. I know mangas are fantasy and I love that on some, but I like seeing a manga now and then that is actually possible in real life and doesn't have weird power inserted in them. In this case, fighting mangas like Hajime No Ippo or Tough would come to mind, but also interesting Slice of Life mangas, like a cooking manga or a sport manga now and then... Bambino! was a very nice one for cooking.
-AWESOME art. like the kind that you know the artist takes his time to perfect every panel with shadin and what not. Some examples like Vagabond, Vinland Saga, Sun Ken Rock.
-Mangas that teach you new real life information you would otherwise never have known... hmm best example I can get at the top of my head right now would be Gambler Fish when Tomu explains his psychological tricks and how humans unintentionally act that way. It makes you feel like you learn while enjoying yourself :)
-History mangas based on true events. Vagabond, hands down. Especially since it's so epic at the same time... 1 VS 70!!
-Fantasy worlds that are so creative its insane. HxH, OP... just where you know the artist has a lot of imagination and uses it wisely
-Good comedy, which has you laughing hard and makes you look like an idiot if you're reading in a public place :p
-Mystery. Sometimes mystery characters that the main character has yet to meet.
-Badass characters with badass designs.
I think that's about enough.... if there's anymore I'll just throw it in :p
I love seeing a brother and sister have a normal relationship, it's laughable how many times it will be a little sister idolising their cool 'onii-chan'. A normal relationship really shouldn't be such a rare thing.

When an everyday thing (dodgeball) is made into a life-threatening, serious affair in inventive ways.
And I agree with Hiroy, and I'll go as far as to say dialogue battles at their peak completely trump physical battles. I'm really wanting Doflamingo and Luffy to exchange dialogue about dreams in this arc (which I've said will be the best One Piece has had). There is no reason for Oda to circumvent this, hope he doesn't.

Shingeki No Kyojin 07 Video Review
I often enjoy the "three brothers" trope (probably inspired from Romance of the Three Kingdoms or something) that is barely used anymore but seemed quite more frequent back in the older comics.
