Thread: An honest look at your true péng yǒu

  1. #21

Default Re: An honest look at your true peng-you.

I grew up with a group of friends and we known each other for almost ten years. I was willing to go all out for them but after many years, I realise they don't care that much about me. So I don't have any reliable friends. But it could be that I was too emotionally dependent on them, or I expected too much from them. But I have since distanced myself from them because they basically expected me to be there for them all the time when I have my own problems to deal with.

As for stealing, lying and killing for your friends, it's really depends on the situation.

    Voted five.

Four of them all know each other and we are essentially an inseparable foursome... but there's also one more friend with whom I can talk about anything and we have lots of things in common. She also understands some things about me better than my aforementioned friends, namely anxiety disorder issues.

For all of them I would honestly do everything in my power to be of help and make them feel better. And I truly believe they'd do the same for me.

(I would include one internet friend, but due to the enormous distances I would be unable to do most of the things mentioned here. But I guess good intentions count to some degree~)

I've got two friends, but they're not really the "peng-you" type of friends described in the first post here.

So family and SO's don't count?

In that case my number is probably three. Another couple friends that I consider great friends, but don't see or talk to enough to have on that level anymore. And I get along well with all my coworkers, have known most of them for many years... talk to them all the time, have actually helped a couple of them move... but I dunno that I'd go to *any* extreme to help them out. Some level of inconvenience or extra work, sure, but I wouldn't catch a plane overnight to go help them or donate a kidney.

So. 3 really close ones. 2 parents. 1 girlfriend. 3 or 4 good, but not great friends. 12 coworkers. Tons of associates. Most of the idiots on this forums.

    Not counting family?
Well... that would be around three.
I have plenty of close friends who are all special to me, and even more acquaintances who... well, I spoke to more out of politeness and need then anything else. But I only have about three people I can trust whole heartedly.

    Three for me, too.
I've known them since pre-school, our bonds run pretty deep.

    Don't worry, be happy~

I would say I have 3 good friends. However one of them I don't really speak to that much because we just do different things but I know if I truly needed him he would have my back. My other friend won't talk to me because he is going through some depression and shit but I'm TRYING to let him know that as his friend I'm SUPPOSED to be here when he's going through shit but he won't let me and for now has distanced himself. Lastly, this friend is just busy all the time with work and we are best friends but he is much closer to his family than I am to mine so his family always comes first. I know all 3 of these guys would have my ass but it's depressing as all summer I've hung with one of my friends who is a good friend but not one of those friends. Anyways it's been eating at me that I haven't seen any of them for about 3 months, was supposed to see one but his grandmother was very sick so he had to go to Tenn. Glad to get all this off my chest and it feels good to say it even though it's anonymous and no one cares.

Yeah.............................................. ...Not sure why you couldn't just use reliable friend or similar besides Chinese.

Seriously the number for me is like 0. I have few buddies on another forum, and most I have known for around 2+ years.
Do I confide in one of them if I'm going through hard times? Yes. Would they do the same if they had hard times? I'm unsure.

I'm there as much as I can be if they ever feel down or something, but thats about all I got.
I've moved so many times in my life, so I didn't have some circle of friends for many years or anything.

This is probably the timing where I post
    WTF is a peng you?
    and you answer
    It's Chinese for "friends"
    To which I shall reply
    WTF is a friend?

    I would answer, but I don't think I would.
My friends are fully capable of pulling themselves out of trouble, and I won't pretend to be a hero unless they call for it. Be it directly or indirectly.
    So the answer is none.
