Smoker and Law duke it out towards the beginning of the arc. At this point, they are "enemies", and Smoker makes it abundantly clear that he will "never trust Law". Later on, Law is defeated by the mysterious figure Vergo. What's this? Vergo is a character from Law's dark past, and he's also Smoker's superior. Except he's not really a marine, he's actually working for the bad guys. Now, both Smoker and Law have a reason to fight Vergo in a battle that would have emotional weight, and if we consider that they are "enemies" who "do not trust each other"...

I mean really, this is manga 101 right here.

Very good match up between vergo and Sanji...actually it would annoy me if Vergo just beats Sanji...The other SHs need to start taking on opponents of this level at some point

Thank goodness, now people can go back to respecting the man again and stop trying to replace him in the Monster Trio. This fight should earn the man more than what hes been getting past few arcs. All he needed to do was be in Nami's body for a bit I guess :P

Luffy don't need help from Smoker taking this guy out, hes going to do it with one punch man.

if her beats the VA then at least we know min that sanji and Zoro can take out VA's and may even be able to handle Admirals which would be awesome

If it would be just one of a many VA running around at PH I would have agreed. But Vergo is hyped to be strong as fuck by Tashigi and stronger than CC. So I think Sanji will lose seeing that Vergo is the strongest opponen right now

I love Sanji but I won't deny the obvious Smoker vs Vergo matchup that Oda is cooking up. Sanji will lose for some reason of course.

Also let me just say that I find it terribly annoying when some people say "A character has been fodderized by B character" when the fight is almost evenly matched. Do you people even know what fodder means? Smoker wasn't goddamn fodderized just because he lost in a clear-as-day close fight. Sanji won't also be goddamn fodderized if he loses to Vergo in the upcoming chapters.

This fodderized shit is grating my nerves.

That reminds me of people saying that Sanji would lose to Jabura after that entrance. Or that Usopp would still stand up and fight Jabura, despite the beat down.
Number 2 is especially ridiculous, since Sanji is a main character and Smoker isn't. That would never happen.

Sanji vs Vergo will be a fight against time, considering they're being locked down. There isn't much room for twists i guess.

I was reading the chapter abit fast that I've forgotten about Caesar's order to fumigate Bldg. B. Yeah, I can see this as the most probable outcome.

are there people still waiting for Smoker fighting Vergo? if i read the right chapter Smoker is pretty damn out of the picture lol. i wonder which role he is gonna play against Ceasar?? one thing is for sure, no side character is stealing the Strawhats' thunder this time. they need serious fights of their own after the whole Fishmen fiasco. seriously when was the last time a non-Luffy Strawhat had a great one on one??

I see people saying they want a Smoker and Vergo fight but if Vergo has Law or Smoker heart it won't really be much of a fight since he can just one shot both of them .

Tashigi doubted Smoker when he said he wants to solo him.

Smoker will be likely to learn of Vergo's whereabouts from Minet or that monitors next chapter. Which gives time Sanji to clash with Vergo and anticipate he is too strong of an opponent to take him on his own.

Personally I LIKED if Sanji were able to take down Vergo alone. But that fight will be interrupted atleast one time because CC's "unleashing Shinokuni in tunnel" plan.

It is up to Oda now.

And CC is done for. If he isn't knocked out already Luffy will go on a rampage with his one of his storming fist attacks.

i can't see smoker fighting vergo unless the gas coming towards sanji and vergo makes them run away and they eventually reach ceasar. i think its more likely sanji and law team up against vergo. although law will likely let sanji and vergo duke it out for while before waiting for an opening and then stealing back his heart and then either killing vergo or defeating him right there. i really want to see law steal vergos heart and then using him in his upcoming war. not as a fighter but using the marines resources to help him in his fight.

I thought Brook vs Zeo was entertaining and the closest thing to an actual "fight"...heck, Zeo was imo the only remotely worthwhile antagonist last arc.
But yeah, it's not only Sanji, the entire crew minus Luffy is in desperate need of memorable fights since what, 3 years ago? I really doubt Oda would waste this chance.
