    I personally didn't really care for Dragon Age II too much because I got tired of the constant wave attacks, the very limited area and progression (when they first mentioned DAII would be in one city, I was imagining Clock Town from Majora's Mask), the limited customization for allies (seems to be fixed for DA:I), and I didn't really care for the new convo system (though it's not a deal breaker since I've played Deus Ex, Mass Effect, etc.).

    As for DAII, can't the main plot points be simplified very easily?

    Protagonist revives Flemeth if she was killed.
    Protagonist possibly kills Arishock leader.
    Anders (That guy from Awakenings) bombs the chantry there and sets forth events for a war between the mages and the templars.
    Protagonist on the run almost certainly not to be seen again due to a change in engines and being player controlled.

    Any information about returning characters can be done in DA:I since they have to introduce themselves to the Inquisitor anyway.

    I'm apparently the only person that LIKED the changes DA 2 made. Including being in one city the whole time (You really learn your way around and get comfortable with it and the people in it) and not having to organize your 10,000 armor drops constantly for your companions and the updated battle system. Mage skill tree was thinned out and consolidated some, but Rougue and Warrior were way more fun.

    Only thing I didn't really care for was the railroaded branch paths/ending. It really diminished re-playability that all your choices came out identical in the end.

    And Varric was awesome.

    I'm fairly ambivalent about being in one city. I neither like it better nor less to me it's just a choice you make depending on the narrative you want to commit on.
    It's the execution I'm very lukewarm on for reason surely already mentioned in some way by either me or someone else, don't feel like falling into old arguments now.

    On a different note as much as I love my warden I just hope they are careful with the carrying over stuff. There is a point where it just becomes convoluted and unnecessary to link everything back when the storylines focus around different peopel anyway. But maybe that's just me.

    I don't mind being mainly focused in one city, but if it's done, it really needs to be done better. Like I said, I was hoping for Clock Town type activity when I heard it was all going to be focused in Kirkwall. From what I hear, there also isn't any real difference for the timeskips aside from a reasonable amount of time for the main story to progress. I was hoping that if you made a decision, it could affect the way an area of Kirkwall changes from shops, quest givers, is the area poor or more prosperous now?. That kind of stuff.

    From the survey that was leaked (and accurate so far), Varric wasn't mentioned or involved. The ones there that I can remember appeared to be Cassandra, Cullen, a Qunari (or Kossith), a female city elf, and a male tevinter mage. The qunari in the trailer was probably the companion we'll get.

    The third installment of the Dragon Age franchise casts players as the head of the Inquisition, a recently resurrected organization charged with rooting out corruption and evil in the land of Thedas. As the game begins, the Inquisition has plenty to investigate. War, scheming, and political strife have left the major power groups in the Dragon Age universe unable to operate effectively, which is a problem when a hole opens in the sky and demons begin pouring out. Players must fight back against the demonic threat while exploring a vast world and consolidating power for the growing Inquisition. Large and varied environments, customizable armor, and the return of multiple player races are just a few of the ways BioWare is addressing feedback from previous titles in order to shape a new future for the franchise.
    I think it's pretty safe at this point to say that Cassandra and Varric'll probably be party members at this point. Also, I'll admit to being surprised they're doing multiple races again. I wasn't expecting them to ever do that again except maybe in a multiplayer setting.

    The coverage trailer shows horse(riding), I still remember the days when this was something pretty challenging to do to the point that it was rather avoided.
    The reason you have to justify the reason for the horse to be there(meaning enough travel area for it to be useful), clipping has been something difficult and things like do you have horse combat or not? Now we see it in pretty much every open world game where it makes sense.

    But seeing the thing in there I think lets us have a good idea of the minimal size of the world. Also from the footage I've seen I dig their style.
    It's hard to explain, DA2 didn't look all too refined from an aesthetics standpoint and DA:O was ok for the time it came out but nothing to write home about.
    This seems to hit a pleasing middle ground between pushing for pretty effects and stuff while not really going for realism.

    Multiple player races? *cue hallelujah* I'm amazed as well, although I wasn't one of the more vocal fanbase. I just thought it would be nice.

So, you have to go explore across all these areas and find ways to increase the power of your inquisition. Basically think of like DA2's first act where you had to amass a ton of gold, but on a much larger/broader scale with a lot more choice/variety in what you do, and that the entire game works like that. Also, the inquisition buffing stuff doesn't overlap with your character growth mechanics like gold did, so you don't have to avoid buffing yourself to save your cash. Their goal is that ultimately you can do the types of content you like and explore the places you like and still finish the game.
    -They want to increase the variety of things you do. Think of your traditional kind of open world game where you have all sorts of various quest option types.
    -The map spans from Eastern Ferelden to Western Orlais. "Each of the areas we're building is bigger than anything we've done before."
    -The zones are all traditional open world zones where it's large open and there's interesting stuff scattered all around that can start quests or open a new side dungeon, etc, etc.
    -You can run into random monsters in the wild and have a mount to help go through the giant open areas. There's a lot more environmental variety.
    -Okay in summary if you've played Skyrim you know how this open world works.
    -Environmental interaction is a notable focus. Mages can repair bridges, if you find an abandoned fort you can turn it into an inquisition base, and things like that.
    -The PC version's controls will be tailored to the PC unlike DA2.
    -The graphics look really good IMO.

    Still reading but just that combat part is addressing a lot of what I disliked about DA2. It's kind of funny though I mean this doesn't sound like it accomodates for the people that disliked da:o combat and loved the da2 one.

    I hope it controls well though on consoles because in all seriousness da:o was a mess on consoles from what I could gather.

    Also I hope that they take behaviour like that of anders and trickle it into the companions. I really liked that he did the thing he did regardless of you. That's how humans work, sometimes they just gotta to their own shit regardless of your magic relationship manipulation skills. That said I would have liked the conversation leading up to the action being way more different.
    If you had a good relationship with him it would have been nice if he'd just outright tell you his plans.

    That sounds scarily like Skyrim.

    I fear for my ability to platinum this one.

    Hopefully they skip the *explore every last inch of the game" trophy this time around, those were the big pains in both games. (Well, the second it was "find every copy of an ingredient... which boiled down to the same thing... especially since it was all missables)

    Which would be comically ironic given how Bioware took heat for doing too little with Mass Effect 3.

    I love everything I see, been replaying origins on the highest difficulty a bit and I just enjoy using all the tools that you have to decimate and encounter. (Just finished the ogre encounter in the ostagar tower. Lots of aggroed person running in circles and the rest shooting/hammering on the beast.)

    Positioning is so key and exploiting enemy ai, I really disliked the DA2 infinite wave encounter design where it just felt that I was spamming stuff, I rarely paid attention to my position their because it was pretty frustrating to constantly realign yourself to very little benefit.

    I liked though what they tried to do with some of their bosses in DA2 it felt pretty unrefined though after having done wow raids for a few years.

    Bioware has announced Dragon Age Keep which is their way of importing files from the previous Dragon Age games to future Dragon Age games. From the looks of things, it appears that it will be much more detailed than the Mass Effect series.

    It's definitely an interesting idea. It would be handy for people who haven't played the first two games. Like when I played Mass Effect 2 on my PS3 and was only able to select a few major choices because ME1 wasn't available on Playstation. So I was unable to have a lot of different scenarios done according to my Shepard's actions, which was kind of annoying. This would fix that.

    Although I can already hear the fan outcry of, "They didn't earn all these choices!! This is cheating!!!" LOL.

    Well, it was mainly created for save imports into the next gen systems from old gen systems, but they'll probably keep it going for future entries in the series.
