SBSs are relatively cushy to miss. It's a pity though, as they're a part of whole One Piece experience. But yeah, Oda forgot that Mr.3 wasn't supposed to float and later he made a dandy little excuse.
I guess the presumption was if Mr. 3 can float then Shanks rescueing Luffy from the water won't rule out the possibility of Shanks having a devil fruit.
Actually, he should be pretty buoyant seeing as how he's made of wax and should float regardless of whether or not he could swim. The wood excuse really wasn't necessary.Originally Posted by Yoska
Oh but it was necessary because if it would be for that imagine the fanboyism factor if it would be for explenations like yours. I´m not saying anything against what you´ve just said, I just want to make you aware of what fanboys would say about it and in what a manner they would do it. So it´s best to avoid all of that with that little excuse for which I´m even not sure that it really is just an excuse. I mean we´ve seen Franky´s skinless fist changing from the left to the righ hand to none so why shouldn´t there be a drawing glitch about the piece of wood?Originally Posted by Ubiq
so you are saying that Shanks was floating on a piece of wood as opposed to standing?Originally Posted by Ivotas
What the hell are you talking about? Who said anything about Shanks? I don´t see what Shanks even lost in this discussion about Mr. 3. :wacko:Originally Posted by sabret00the

>Nope he was floating and as I said Oda explained that there was a reason why he did so.
You got us all very confused here Ivotas, lol
Why the hell was I confusing anyone. I just stated how Mr. 3 could float. That was what I was responding too. I never even typed the name Shanks in this thread. You can check that. And I still don´t get where everyone gets Shanks from in this discussion. No I´m not going to check since I´ve never spoke about him.Originally Posted by jackvance

Those are all tough questions not alot of info has been stated.
Shanks Fighting Power, Oda Stated clearly in the Red/Blue Grand Data Files That he was A Rival/Sparring Partner with Hawkeye's. That is the only data on Shanks Fighting Abilities.
Shanks and WhiteBeard are going to meet and talk about Ace and Blackbeard, as Whitebeard clearly stated that he had some idea of what the letter Shanks sent was talking about.
It is really hard too tell who is Dragon and what's his purpose because he was shown only once.
The meaning of D. who knows only time will tell.
Oda will give out all the information as the series goes on.
Ehm I quoted the discussion already.. they were talking about Shanks, and you said he floated on a piece of wood..Originally Posted by Ivotas

I wonder if there aren't deliberate red-herrings in the series designed to throw the fans off. We sit through 600 chapters waiting to see Dragon's return, and then we discover that he was long ago handed into the WG.
And half the time, while I have to assume "if Oda says it, it's canon", the SBS column is flip answers.
Occasionally he probably looks at the Japanese equivalent to AP and laughs his head off at wild speculation. :D

Uff, I´ve got this whole thread confused. I thought this was the "Why was Mr. 3 able to float?" discussion in which I did take part in. But that was in the "Current Mini Story Discussion" thread.
That´s what happens when I pay just attention to key words as "floating" and not to the rest as "Shanks".
And as far as lynching me is concerned. Come all of you, I´m ready!
It is just like Robin Stjernberg &Ivotas guessed - the fact that it is a sound effect and also the name of mafia family bosses.Originally Posted by jackvance
Re the sound effect - all the men that have had D in their name have had a special certain unquantifiable quality about them. They are essentially men of action but their personalities make it difficult to accurately sum them up using normal adjectives. Thus a sound effect that makes you think 'wow' or 'oooh' works well.
Secondly, re the mafia names - all the men are in essence the best of the pirates, the creme de la creme, the butter on the parsnips etc. The mafia is a an group of 'pirates' and Don is the name given to the heads of the organisation (at least the Italian & American mafia). They may be criminals but some of the Dons are also known for their generosity, fairness etc. btw In Sicily the mafia have been known to pay for the funeral of someone they have rubbed out.
Sooo, that is why I think D stands for Don.

@ Vilia: The main reason why I wouldn´t like for it to be Don is because we already have Don Krieg and I would by no means like to have any reference that could link Luffy and Krieg.
