Bo-bobo Dub Discussion

I went to Barnes and Noble today, because I've been sick and desperate to get out of the house and do something that required minimal physical activity. So, reading it is. Anyway, by luck I stumbled upon a Shonen Jump magazine without the wrapping, so I won't have to rip off the wrapping to read it and feel like a a snivelling little criminal. I see the Bo-bobo anime preview and note the following name thingamajigs:

Bo-bobo is the same
Don Patch is now Poppa Rocks (this is because Don Patchi is a pun on japanese pop rocks)
Beauty is the same
Tokoro Tennousuke is now JELLY JIGGLER (I tried to look it up online and apparently his name is a pun on petroliem jelly or something)
Heppokumaru is now GASSER (his name is also a pun on farting or something)
And Softon is still the same. Good thing he isn't Poopface or something.

The names sound dumb, but seem to be the English equivalents of the Japanese puns.

Anyone know when it premieres?

October 1st. I believe 10. They are cutting one episode of One Piece.And shouldnt this be in Anime?

Yeah, I hope that Sho Pro / Viz do a good job on it. Gash bell and Inuyahsa have been fairly good and we'll find out in a few hours if Naruto measures up, so hopefully they'll do a decent job on it, Bobobo that is.

Whoops, I could've sworn I posted this in Anime/Manga. Maybe I did and someone moved it. No idea. Anyway, I hope this gets better treatment than Gash Bell. I have a feeling they're going "all-out" on Naruto and giving other shows the leftovers. Maybe not, but I dunno.

I saw a preveiw for this back in march on CN. The title alone terrified me, then I remember it had something to do with hair. I was all like WTF. I'll probably catch it on TV in October if I can on CN. Is it good?

You guys will all know about Naruto so much sooner than me. I live in the mountain time zone, I'm very far behind.

Yes it's good, think of it as the Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Family Guy of anime.

I think that the only reason they changed some of the names is so that viewers would get the puns. I actually have no problem with the name changes be cause thats what they basically mean in japanese. Their names roughly translated mean:

Don Patchi = The japanese equivalent of Pop Rocks candy
Heppokomaru = Basically, "Fart Boy"
Tokoro Tennosuke = Basically "Jelly Angel"

As long as they can successfully change the jokes good enough so that everyone can get them i'll be happy.

I just saw an ad for it, and all I could make out were Beauty and Don Patch's voices, and they sounded pretty good.

Voices seem good. Have no idea why untranslated japanese was on-screen at the end. They are admitting that it makes no sense. Bo-bobo's name seemed pronounced right in the dub, not the announcer.

The only one who I can fairly judge is Beauty, and she seemed great!

No it's not. One Piece is now at 9:30pm so it won't get cut off by Bobobo Bo Bo Bobo.

Is Viz only doing aone volume of the manga or something? The lastest SJ jas a preview of the "first 2 chapters" but these take place later on in the series.

Looks awesome. After playing Jump Superstars, i'm interested in SJ anime and manga i usually wouldn't have looked at.
